What kind of restaurant would switch off its AC at 3pm, because "manager instructed", despite being asked for by two lady guests, opting for service on the first floor, having reached at 240pm on a hot day? !
Mallu cafes in the 'mess' format- the no frills, rock bottom-priced garden variety, with poor hygiene, lone nepali-cook plus a couple of waiters-type eating houses, running on shoestring budgets, short menus of meals+tea+snacks fare- are popular around Bangalore.
It's the rare kerala restaurant that offers full service - comfort, hygiene, a la carte menu, complete with airconditioning, after Ente Keralam left town for Chennai; maybe Chef Pillai's.
I suppose the money raked-in from running the barely-satisfactory Kairali mess, earlier located diagonally opposite Empire Restaurant on Nehru Road, has now been reinvested in this new NewKairali Restaurant, though the bump-up in displayed aesthetic standards from their earlier pedestal fans+ steel chairs+ stained working dresses has not rid the owners from their old 'busfare' ways of cutting corners.
Hopefully their mean-minded frugal approach, with respect to picking off customers' experience as the fastest means to profit, will change for the better, to meet expectations of customers seeking classy mallu dineouts, hardly available in Kammanahalli - else it will shut, sooner than later, as with most such ventures that seek to scrounge and maximize profits, seeking a near horizon of cashing-in the brandname off the highest bidder !
Food we've had here for lunch on a Sunday was good; Service by Naushad was personalized and sensitive. However, despite the two ACs on the first floor belting out their best, the unshaded glass windows merrily neutralize any cooling by letting in magnified heat from the blazing afternoon Sun, making the environment inside inadequately cool for a full house of patrons. Now, add to this an insensitive, less-than-hospitable 'uncle scrooge' manager(owner in disguise) and you would be excused for wondering if this is actually only a mallu mess, pretending to be a decked-up 'family...
Read moreI have been visiting New Kairali Family Restaurant for many years now, and it continues to remain one of my top choices for authentic Kerala cuisine in Bengaluru. The restaurant is owned and managed by Mr. Sunny Francis, whom I have known personally for the past 12 plus years. He is very professional, passionate, and dedicated person, and his values clearly reflect in the way this restaurant is run.
The food here is simply excellent – true Kerala-style dishes prepared with authenticity and care. Every meal I’ve had has been consistently tasty, hygienic, and satisfying. Whether it is a simple meal, Kerala-style fish curry, or traditional parottas, everything is made with the right balance of spices and flavours that bring out the essence of Kerala cuisine.
What I really appreciate is that the food is also pocket-friendly, making it a great choice for both families and groups of friends. I’ve visited multiple times – sometimes with family, sometimes with friends – and the experience has always been delightful.
Another plus point is the ample parking space (beside the wide road), which makes the visit convenient, especially in a busy city like Bengaluru.
