The iconic Nirula's, India's first ever fast food chain, is now in Namma Bengaluru in Indiranagar. Nirula's has been operating for more than 45 years since its outlet in Connaught Place in 1977. They might be located across 8 cities across Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Uttaranchal Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Punjab, but this first outlet in Karnataka, in Bengaluru is a very special one, it is their 100th Outlet in India and also the one with the biggest square foot.
From Nirula’s iconic offerings, one definitely cannot ignore the ice cream (not frozen desserts), with more than 50+ flavours of ice creams with classics such as 21 Love, to fruit sorbets that were simply indulgent.
I started off the meal with a vegetarian sandwich with a seeded bread that screamed fresh, I absolutely loved the bread and everything in between. The mustard and the tomato sauce sachets are a welcome addition to the stale ones in squeezy bottles. The breads are made fresh in house and a few variants are also available for sale.
Paired with their classic cold coffee, it was a perfect indulgent meal that I thoroughly enjoyed. The red velvet shake was great too, not too overly sweet like most American joints.
The vegetarian dumplings were decent, and the sauces were very delicious. What was introduced as a crispy chicken burger later turned out to be a plant protein based vegetarian burger, that was a delicious surprise.
The thin crust pizza was way too thin, almost like a nachos with toppings, but I throughly enjoyed the delicious flavours coming through the chip like slices. The Chole kulche was definitely something that I enjoyed, but was heavy after all the superb offerings I ate earlier.
The watermelon and musk melon sorbet was superbly perfect, and I personally preferred the musk melon variant, it is a must have #apjprecommends
On a recent visit I absolutely enjoyed their signature Hot Chocolate Fudge, #apjprecommends and definitely a tough competition to Namma Homegrown Corner House’s favourite offering. The only reason I preferred the Nirula’s one more was simply because the vanilla ice cream was deliciously far more superior to that of Corner House
Not to stir up a controversy, but you should, must try the Hot Chocolate Fudge here at Nirula’s and decide, yet do write up your experience in the comments if you take up my recommendation
It was a legend that I experienced more than 15 years ago in New Delhi and I was glad to jump straight back to nostalgia recently with this outlet in Bengaluru. The recipes of some of the dishes have remained intact for several years and that makes this place super legendary. I had an array of vegetarian dishes from their extensive menu and it was a delight to indulge with a promise to come back and try their...
Read moreI have fond memories of Nirulas.. I Have visited this place a zillion times in Delhi’s Vasant Vihar and Chanakya Puri. Seeing Nirulas in Bangalore brought some beautiful childhood memories back and I was on the lookout for an opportunity to visit this place.
I visited Nirulas at Indranagar on the 5th May with a friend who hails from Delhi as well. Having known Nirulas for its vibrancy, energy from the mixed crowd and the wonderful food aroma that used to fill the place - this place was surprisingly empty in the middle of the lunch hour. The air felt stagnant and stale on the ground floor, so we headed to the 1st floor. I asked for the washroom while my friend went in search of a place to sit. The washroom sadly, wasn’t clean enough with no soap in the dispenser ! Not an issue, I was looking forward to eat at nirulas after such a long time and this didn’t matter much. With much excitement to order my favourite ice cream, I headed outside. We choose to sit in the balcony but apparently it wasn't groomed well, with leaves all over the place, one could blame it to the wind outside, fair enough ! But even the table outside were dirty and the food menu half opened was on lying on the chair ( maybe because of the breeze again! ).The menu was tattered, torn with food stains all over. I asked the staff to get us a fresh menu-card and since the table was dirty too, I asked him to clean/ wipe the table..! The cloth that he used to wipe off the table was so stinky and soiled that it left a foul smell and a sticky residue on the table itself, and that was that ! !
I left the place feeling sad. This visit had tarnished the image and my memories of Niruals. I so wanted to take my kids to this place but sadly now that might...
