Defenitly “crown” of JP Nagar. Honestly this restaurant serves best Dosa & Kesaribath in the area. In the first bit itself I became fan for this place. It was Sunday morning and on the way to movie we decided to drop in here for the breakfast by 8.15AM. Luckily all items in the menu were available. We quickly decided and stood in line to order the food.
This restaurant has got many hard core followers who seems like regular to this restaurant. As I observed many people use to indulge in short talk with cashier. People of different classes and types stand in que to get their portion of delicious south Indian breakfast.
Ambience is just like any other self service darshinies with stand-eat option. Dosa preparation is clearly visible as its located next to cash counter in the corner. It’s a delightful feast to eyes to see the about 25-30 Dosa’s baking at a time on that huge pan. Strangely first time I saw half of the customers who visit this restaurant opt for parcel service.
FOOD: After waiting for good 8 mins I got my Masal Dosa. It was toooooooo crispy. Aloo Palya used in it was great. I just enjoyed every bit of Dosa. Taste of Dosa comes very close to CTR.
Kesari-Bath: Believe me it tastes divine. Tiny pieces of pineapple enhance the taste in some bites. Probably best Kesari bath I ever had in my life time. Man! Still I can remember that taste.
Vada: It was crisp and too good. Ingredients were in right amount.
Chutney: Chutney they serve is completely different than any other. It has an essence of sweetness rather than being spicy. But Yes! Its great. Being a spice lover and big chutney fan I enjoyed this one to the core.
Coffee: Coffee was great with right amount of sweetness. If you are calorie conscious then this place for you to have coffee.
EVERYTHING ELSE: Though it’s crowded, it won’t feel like due to huge open space in front of the restaurant. But yes! If you want to get refill it might turn out bit difficult to get close to the serving counter. Parking wouldn’t be a problem as the whole road is traffic free.
FINAL VERDICT: Another great destination for great South Indian breakfast. Love to visit this place...
Read moreThis is among the top South Indian breakfast joints in the city dishing out steaming hot soft idlis, crunchy vadas and sumptuous dosas. The place is very well known primarily in JP Nagar and thereabouts, which is a blessing since it's a small joint and is usually crowded during breakfast and in the evening. The menu is short - Idly, Vada, Masala/Plain dosa, Chow Chow bath, Avalakki bath. But the hero is something that is not on the menu - the chutney - it's unique and something I've not tasted anywhere else. It's a perfect melange of hot, tangy, with a tinge of sweetness and is tempered with mustard seeds etc. that give it an added texture. It's actually so good that I'd recommend that you skip the sambhar altogether. The idlis are super soft, the vadas are super crunchy and the dosa is super duper crispy! Their Kesari bath deserves a special mention, it's a beautiful orange colour, the consistency is just right and it's not overtly sweet or oily (ghee-ly?) I've been visiting the restaurant forever and the taste has been fairly consistent. The atmosphere is fairly communal and you'll find a fair number of regulars enjoying their favourite breakfast or snack. The owner also has a very pleasant demeanour and can be seen interacting jovially with the customers. With many of Bangalore's vaunted old school restaurants rushing customers and serving vanilla stuff, this is one place that prepares and serves food lovingly and that's why I keep going back to SN...
