XII Zodiac has launched weekend special unlimited Lunch Buffet at only 656 bucks (inclusive of everything) from Friday to Sunday. Within this buffet, there are around 15-20 dishes, comprised of fish, chicken and mutton, and also there are various options in veg items.
They are specialised on Chinese, Continental and North Indian cuisine. The welcome drink, i.e. a watermelon mocktail and the starters will be served on the table. Among the starters they have hakka fish, baked chicken strips, smoked paneer akbari tikka and Tom and Jerry. Among the starters, my favourite was hakka fish. Soft fish fillets tossed with onions and capsicum along with olive oil. My second favourite was baked chicken strips. The chicken pieces were cut into small, and marinated and then baked. Tom and Jerry was basically the preparation of honey chilli potato, which they named as Tom and Jerry. The smoked paneer akbari tikka had huge cuboids of paneer and the paneer was extremely soft and fluffy.
They also have a live section for rolls and chats. I ordered a plate of papdi chat. The papdi was crispy topped with boiled chickpeas, potatoes and topped with yogurt, a sweet chutney, dhaniya and sev. It tasted like the authentic street style papdi chats. Then we had the egg-chicken roll. I will suggest you guys not to order too many rolls because it will occupy a lot of space in you stomach. The taste was no doubt good, buffet the rolls were too heavy. So have it, but small amount.
Now jumping into the main course. The main course spread was huge. Starting with veg hakka noodles, steamed rice, corn pulao along with side dishes like dal sunehri, paneer pasenda, stir fried fish in Chinese celery, Gosht vindaloo, Awadhi murgh korma and many more. The awadhi murgh korma was my favorite, the white creamy gravy along with hot piping rice was the best. The mutton was also delicious, there was slight smokey smell in the mutton, but the taste and flavours of the gravy was beyond that. Chinese celery is a variety of celery which is edible, gives flavorful stalks. The stir fried fish was fused in that stalk. One can also have assorted Indian breads if they want to.
Finally coming to the dessert section, there was not very huge list of desserts, but whatever was there, were the best ones. They had hot gulab jamun, coffee mousse, rasmalai, chocolate gulab jamun, rosogolla and many more. My favourite was the chocolate gulab jamun. This was something new that I had. A cold hemi gulab jamun, covered with chocolate.
The Ambience was very cool and calm, the walls had graffiti with the signs of XII Zodiacs. The decor was very beautiful. The place was not very spacious, but was quite beautiful. Their hospitality was really appreciable. They were very humble and helpful. They are maintaining the hygiene protocols, all the staffs were wearing masks. So you guys can visit here without having any...
Read moreOn the occassion of my better half Moumita Basu Mitra 's birthday we went to have lunch at the multi cuisine inhouse restaurant of hotel Fern Residency , called XII zodiac. Situated on the second floor, the restaurant has beautiful interiors replete with blue and white coloured drapes ,ceilings and seats. The buffet , competitively priced at only Rs .626 has unlimited starters and desserts. Their line up of three veg starters, non veg starters , main course and five kinds of desserts remain the same while they change the menu every week.
Veg starters (9/10) :- We got tandoori aloo, tandoori paneer tikka and corn sheekh kebabs as veg starters , paneer was excellent, just adequately charred and juicy (took two helpings !!) , corn sheekh kebab was extremely tasty , tandoori aloo was also very good ,just a little bit on the saltier side. We were also served a tom yum soup which was amazing to say the least.
Non veg starters (9/10) :- We were given chicken malai tikka ,chicken tandoori masala and basa mahi tikka . Loved the fish kebab, succulent and tender it melted in my mouth. Chicken tandoori masala was excellent too. However, chicken malai tikka was a tad disappointing , found the pieces to be a little tough for a kebab.
Main Course (8/10) :- For main course ,there were quite a few items ,both in veg and non veg sections.Among them mutton Biriyani and nilgiri chicken were served on the table. Nilgiri chicken, with its strong coriander and mint fragrance, and juicy chunks of chicken pieces was the star of the main course for me. Mutton biriyani was tasty but imho it fell short of expectations because of the usage of strong meetha attar which didn't suit our palate, however mutton pieces were super soft and juicy. The vegetarian items like dal and tawa sabji were flavourful. Fish fry was very tasty though a little small in size. One time soft drink is also given alongwith the main course which was refreshing as usual.
Desserts (10/10) :- Believe it or faint, there is not an iota of exaggeration when I state that their desserts by far are the best in any buffet of this price range atleast in Kolkata. The gulab jamun, mini malpua, black forest pastry, brownies and the cold pudding were excellent and more importantly not overtly sweet.
Overall, it was a superb lunch with excellent service at the xii zodiac. We thanked "our...
Read moreJust few days back was out for some pujo shopping when we had the idea to try out the buffet from XII Zodiac. A themed restaurant inside the Fern Residency, stands just on the main road from Chinar Park towards City Center 2, on you right. On walking in, you'll find glass windows that overlooks the main road with soft music playing inside. The ambiance is something that people from all age will enjoy. We came in from the harsh sunlight and were immediately offered a lemonade. It was refreshing and the perfect start to the wonderful buffet. For starters you'll find items of chicken, fish, one veg and paneer. The dishes change from day to day. We had the chicken 65, mahi tikka (fish), crispy chilli baby corn and paneer tikka. There were bite sized momos too served with a tangy sauce. The chicken was soft and tender. The paneer was definitely the best. You can accompany your starters with a variety of salads. There was moong bean salad and even chicken salad. For main course, there was an array of dishes starting from plain steamed rice to chinese noodles and a plethora of more dishes. You could pair the rice with yellow daal and a matar mushroom ki sabzi. You can also take Indian breads to go with the Daal Makhani, Shahi Paneer and the veg item. What tasted the best according to me was their chicken curry. It was beautifully seasoned and the aroma of garam masala was invigorating. The chilly fish too was nice with soft pieces of boneless fish. Mutton lovers can rejoice as they can fill up their plate with spicy Rogan Josh too. Coming to the dessert, we tried the coconut laddoo, baked bonde and rosogolla. The coconut laddoo was something you had to have to believe. It was soft on the inside and dusted with coconut flakes on the inside. Every dessert tasted equally good. Overall, this is one place you can't go wrong with. Please give them a visit if you are in the area....
