I had high expectations when I visited the restaurant yesterday, especially considering my great experience with their food from Zomato or Swiggy almost a year ago. I went there with my friends to indulge in authentic Bengali cuisine on Saptami, Durga Puja. However, upon arrival, I was shocked, not because of the expected crowd, but due to the exorbitant prices. Surprisingly, the famed fish thali was missing from the menu, and there was only one Pujo special thali priced at ₹750. I couldn't comprehend the logic behind this steep price.
Having my non-Bengali friends with me, I wanted to order something special. To my dismay, many items were out of stock, including popular fish varieties like rui/Katla and ilish. I ended up ordering daab chingri (₹750 for 4 pieces) with rice (₹100 each). The taste was unusual, reminiscent of a mix between vanilla shake and coconut meat with an overwhelming amount of sugar. I also tried Mocha gontho (₹300), which turned out to be overly sweet and overloaded with sugar, cashews, raisins, cloves, and a hint of mocha.
When I inquired about the overly sweet flavors, the staff responded that Bengali cuisine is inherently sweet. I was utterly surprised and felt that now I've to relearn about Bengali cuisine.
Overall, my experience at the restaurant was far from pleasant. Apart from my friends joking about the sweetness of Bengali cuisine, I didn't find any redeeming qualities in the food. My visit left me disheartened, prompting me to reconsider my perception of Bengali...
Read moreRecently visited the place but to the contrary (with the comments on the list), I personally didn't have a very pleasant experience..Ordered 'Kolkata Mutton Biryani', 'Mutton Rezala' and 'Keema Kosha (Masala Gravy)'. In name of 'Kolkata Biryani', they serve some kinda overtly spicy rice which was far away from the signature aroma of the 'Kolkata Biryani'. 'Mutton Rezala' was another addition to my disappointment due to it's too much sweet and a white colour gravy that had nothing other than a strong flavour of clarified butter (Bengali Ghee) in abundance. The 'Keema Masala (Kosha)' also doesn't worth mentioning either. My appetite was completely ruined after having just a couple of spoonful from my meal. On top of this, their stuffs were not trained enough to mention that the mineral water bottle they keep on lunch table is not complimentary but chargeable. I won't recommend this restaurant to anyone I know. Though I feel, after all that was my misjudgement to go for mughlai dishes from a typical bengali restaurant who are possibly good in only 'Shukto', 'Maach' kinda bengali recipes.
If anyone looking for 'Kolkata Biryani' in CR Park, I would suggest them to visit 'Aminia' (don't get disheartened by the negative rating only, though a bit expensive). 'Aminia' might have certain issues with their service standard but one doesn't have to compromise with the quality of...
