I have visited this place twice now, on weekends. The first visit was a breath of fresh air. Carnatic had opened this outlet just two days ago. We were a group of 12-15 people so obviously we couldn’t find a table to sit and feed ourselves. We were okay to sit on our own mats and must have ordered at least 15-18 dishes + drinks and they were quick, everything was ready within 15 minutes and we enjoyed are piping hot food smeared with ghee in the park with fountains. Blissful.
Cut to the first day of the year. Now we were prepared for the waiting time since a lot of families were in Sunder Nursery for a New Year Picnic. We waited in the line and could finally get in after 10 odd minutes. Again, the nine of us laid out mats to sit in the garden area since it is difficult to secure a table in a larger group but we requested for 2-3 chairs for our parents who are senior citizens. Waited in the queue for about 30 minutes followed by 45 minutes of the food preparing time they took. They give you a buzzer that beeps when your order is ready and we kept waiting endlessly only to realise that they have been churning out smaller orders first to meet their matrixes and we were left hanging. Found a couple of people arguing with the management about the same issue. Finally got our food when it was pitch dark, hogged on it as quickly as possible and left promising to never...

Read moreLocated close to the bridge (across the pond from Lakkadwala Burj), Carnatic Café has replaced Fabcafe By The Lake, which was earlier situated here. The layout is the same, with tables and chairs spread out across a wooden deck, only a part of which is covered (but still rather open-air, not hemmed in by proper walls on all sides). Beside the deck is part of a waterbody, and of course a lovely view of trees and plants, with birds, butterflies, dragonflies etc to be seen.
We were visiting Sunder Nursery and stopped by here for coffee and snacks at around 11 AM on a Saturday. The place was quite crowded, with most tables occupied, but we were able to get a table. The menu resembles the usual Carnatic Café range, with an array of South Indian ‘tiffin’ items, some signature dosas, homemade ice cream, etc. We ordered two plates of dosa and two of manina maga (a thick open dosa smeared with a paste of peanuts and chilli), along with four cups of filter coffee. Every item was delicious, and combined with the ambience, totally worth it. I’m definitely...
