Barbeque Nation - Kochi - LuLu Mall — Restaurant in Edapally

Here is my experience with Barbeque nation at Lulu mall, Ernakulam

Visited on May 5, 2024 for my birthday. Booked 1 week before via the contact taken from Google. One day before, the staff contacted and confirmed about the booking. We booked for dinner at 7pm for a group of 5 adults and 1 kid of 7 yr old. They informed that the table will be reserved for 15min, for buffet- the charge is 991 rs for adult and 473 for kid of 7 yrs. ( Including taxes)

From the reception to the dining, all staff and very welcoming. The ambience is super cool. Then came the staff named Khushi, she is a very polite, well mannered girl and served as well.

The barbeque was set without much wait. Fries corn, potato, chicken leg, french fries.. were served before the grilled starters. All the starters were tasty, fresh. Prawns, fish, pineapple.. holds the top position among all options.

Drinks are not included in buffet and have to pay extra. We tried pink lady, blue..(sorry, forgot the name but not recommended), and lemon ice tea. All at the price 139rs but ok with the quantity and quality.

After the starters itself, our stomach will be full. May be because of this, there are not much options for main course. The dum biriyani, honey chicken that we tried are good.

After each courses, Khushi came and asked us about the food and any concerns. I saw same happening with other tables as well. Gathering opinions and suggestions from customers will definitely helps in business growth.

Then came the desserts section for sweet tooth lovers. Payasam, gulab jamun, moong dal halwa, pastries, cut fruits.. are all presented well and was good.

The kulfi section is something one shouldn't miss. Their malai kulfi is heaven.

Once we completed our food, as it is my bday, they came with a small complimentary cake. I am given with a paper crown, recorded bday music is played and staff surrounded clapped and wished. Few yrs back, for a similar occasion at barbeque nation in Ernakulam, staff were singing and dancing while we cut the cake. I felt the older one is more awesome compared to the recorded music.

About the cake, though it is complimentary, they haven't compromised the taste. Super soft, tasty cake it was. As my kid loved it much, we asked if they can pack the cake for us. They did it and we are super happy.

1. At reception buffet menu is kept however it would be recommended to check with available person as to what all are in today’s menu under buffet as it changes every day ( this was a draw back for me as I assume all what mention will be present )

2. For food I categorized- Starter- Ample option in veg and non veg however the team will dump all of them at one go which will over flow ur grill at table and looks weird way of serving should be improved and they should server in a controlled quantity way . The serving quality of grilled veg and few items of meat does not look good. For me the spices were too much in some options that makes taste bitter. 3 or 3.5 out of 5

— Main course — there are multiple options and I tried Mutton Nihari as mentioned in display , and biryani . In my experience the Nihari doesn’t taste as it should be plus too much black pepper flavor and when checked with staff , then they said it’s not what displayed instead it is Rogan Mutton Nihari. They were happy to bring me separate dish and also gave a coke as compensation. Biryani was also ok and I had to ask for saalan separately as it was not served as part for buffet . 3 out of 5

Desert — ample of options for sweet lovers , this is the section which made my mood change after having average food . Deserts were grate - sweets, cakes , ice creams etc . 4.5 out 5

Starters:

The starters at Barbeque Nation in Edapally Lulu were underwhelming and did not match the quality we experienced at the Fiesta by Barbeque Nation on MG Road. The flavors and overall standard were disappointing.

Main Course:

The main course was equally disappointing. We had low expectations by this point, but even those were not met. The variety, taste, or overall presentation did not make a positive impression.

Desserts:

The desserts were comparatively better than the starters and main course. While they were not exceptional, they stood out as the only redeeming part of the meal.

Service & Management Issues:

The most disappointing aspect was the miscommunication regarding the discount offer.

We were assured of a ₹250 per person discount for a table of 8 during the reservation callback.

Upon arrival, we were told only a ₹100 discount was available that day.

During invoicing, the staff mentioned the discount but did not explain how to apply it. As a result, we missed out on the promised offer.

This lack of clarity and support made the experience even more frustrating.

Overall Experience:

We neither received the promised discount nor enjoyed good food. The combined issues with food quality and mismanagement left us utterly disappointed. This experience was a stark contrast to the happy and satisfying experience we had at the Fiesta by Barbeque...
