Even though, I visit their Thrissur Branch very often, recently I got a chance to visit here, in Kochi for the first time. Thanks to my well-wisher & Kerala's very own Celebrity Chef Mr. Mohammed Sidiq, who gave me a chance to the tasting session & thus experience Kerala's First-Ever "CHEF STUDIO" Experience , held here recently. As you all know Roastown is a well-known Brand on its own, serving the best of authentic GLOBAL CUISINES in Kerala. So, when thinking of such an event, who else could come to your mind, other than Roastown Global Grill, thinking of such an association?? For their first Chef Studio event, they have associated with none, other than Persian Celebrity Chef Nasrin Karimi, who has been living in India for past 42yrs, in Chennai. So the event was named "Taste of Persia" & had Live Cooking session, learning session, talking session with the Chef & finally culminated in a beautiful, tasty Persian or Iranian Five Course Meal. It was such a lovely, memorable experience. Once again a Big Thanks to Chef Sidiq & Roastown for giving this wonderful opportunity. So this is what we had in the five course meal :
1.AMUSE BOUCHE (Appetizer) Zeytoon Parvardeh
It literally means Preserved or Nourished Olives. So its basically a mesclun salad with 2 kinds of olives, walnut, pomegranate preserved in some sweet syrup.
2.COLD & HOT STARTERS
MastoBademjan
It literally means an eggplant yoghurt dip. It was a lovely cold starter served along with sourdough whole wheat bread. Indeed, a tasty combination.
Koobideh Kabab
It is considered as Iran's national or traditional food. Wish we too had such grilled meat as our national food..hehe. It is a hot starter i.e., char grilled juicy beef kababs. Usually they make it with mutton, but in Kerala, they gave it a Beef twist. It was the Best of the lot & also among the kababs I had in Kerala..Fantabulous!! It was served with fresh salad & an awesome special sauce dip by Roastown, which was the best combination. Yummylicious!!
3.MAINS (2 Options)
Shiraz Prawn & Fish
Shiraz is actually a special kind of dark-skinned grapes used in salads. It was a braised creamy sort of prawns curry, using fresh cream & herbs in it, served along with Persian fragrant dill rice & shiraz salad. Seafood lovers will surely lap it up.
OR
Chicken Zereshk Polo
In Iran it is a classic Persian dish which they call as " Zereshk Polo ba Morg" which literally means Barberry Rice or Pulao with Saffron Chicken..Barberry is our kasturi manjhal. So its a layered, flavored rice with tomato & saffron roasted chicken thighs. The tomato & saffron marinated Chicken was my second favorite item. It was so tasty outside & the chicken was so soft & juicy inside...!!my mouth is still watering.
4.DESSERT If you are a Roastown fan, by this time you must be knowing what is a Degustation here. For almost all special events , they offer desserts as degustation. So here too, you have one, where all desserts are Persian.
Tar Halva
It is a very traditional Persian dessert made with rice flour, ground cardamom and butter. It is sweetened with a light saffron syrup. Almost tasted like a custard pudding.
Bamieh
Bamieh is made by blending flour, butter, and saffron syrup with an egg. Almost looked & tasted like Churros.
Persian Ice Cream
It is an Iranian ice cream made from milk, yolk, sugar, rose water, saffron, vanilla, and pistachios. You can really get the rose water & saffron taste which makes it different & also garnished with dry rose petals.
5.CHAII SHIRIN As the last nail on the coffin, they served us their traditional Persian Tea, which was very sweet golden tea or Sulaimani.
As you can see, Pomegranate, Saffron, Olives etc. are unavoidable ingredients in Persian cuisines. The SORBET was missing in the tasting session for unknown reasons.

Read moreWent for a Saturday night dinner. There was just a minimal wait time of 10 mins and we were shown to our table. I was very excited to visit Roastown since I had heard pretty nice things about the Thrissur outlet.
However, it wasn’t “fine-dining” as per the description. It pretty much seemed like a Grand Entré or a Supreme. The menu did have a lot of variety from the usual Chinese and North Indian.
We went ahead and ordered the following:
Chicken Tenders - 6/10. The normal frozen-ready to fry chicken strips you get. They had this particular pineapple dip with it which was actually very nice
Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich - 4/10. I love a good Philly cheesesteak sandwich. However, the meat seemed very bland and the onions were not caramelised well. The bun was pretty hard and did not seem fresh.
On the side, we got something that was made out of potato. It is not fries nor wedges. Seemed like some very weird potato soggy wafers 👎🏻 I’d prefer fries/wedges over this any-day!
I love my steaks and I have steaks/ribs from the very finest places to the small cafés you see in Panampilly. A Rare cooked steak is not everyone’s cup of tea. The pinkish colour and the oozing liquid out of it is only for the actual meat lovers!
The ribs we orders was half rare and half RAW. We accidentally cut into a bit of raw section and ended up getting severe stomach upset and vomitting.
I made sure I pass on the feedback to the chef as this is completely unsafe.
This could a one off experience but just sharing my feedback here as well.
Crunch chocolate desert - 9/10. This was hands down the best part of the whole meal. 🤌🏻 The chocolate pastry and the presentation was so good.
Wine soaked pear with icecream - 5/10 This isn’t for everyone. This has a distinctive taste and personally wasn’t for us. The presentation was top notch. We ordered this because of Instagram, so kids not everything you see on Instagram is good. 😌
In addition to this, we had a couple of beverages which was average but not justifying the price tag. You can skip these.
Overall, the only memory of Roastown I’m left with is stomach upset and the lovely crunch chocolate dessert. Unfortunately, this doesn’t create much recall value for me. So I won’t be...
