This cute middle eastern theme eatery sits defiantly on the perennially busy Sangolda road. MezMiz is not just a restaurant, it's a labour of love. (cliché, i know!) Nazneen and Kush moved to Goa from the North to pursue their culinary passion and the result is the most sumptuous array of Persian, Turkish, Lebanese, Egyptian and Palestinian masterpieces. It's one of those rare menus where every single dish is fabulous. So carefully planned, so lovingly created. My recommendations? Start with one of their cocktails-Liquid Baklava mixed by Kush who enjoys shaking up things by the bar (You'll spot him easily with his Rasputin-style beard) In the meantime, Shraddha or Sarvesh make really good recommendations. I always order 1 hot and 1 cold mezze platter, with extra 'Toum' which is an explosive Middle Eastern garlic chutney. The mezzes are large, but surprisingly light because the ingredients and the condiments are top notch, and the pita bread is baked fresh and piping hot! For the main course, the Market platter is a great choice for someone like me who wants to sample everything. Adana Kabab, Koobideh, Shish Tavuk and more-each subtly vying for the top spot on your palette. Order the Chickpeas herbed pilaf if you're fashionably gluten intolerant or just love rice like me. To finish up, order the Umm-ali. This Egyptian dessert is rarely found in India and Nazneen's version is simply too amazing to articulate. Close your eyes while you slowly feel the rich texture of the decadent bread pudding interspersed with pistachios and almonds.... you're in heaven. No, wait....
Read moreMezmiz is a niche restaurant which offers Lebanese / West Asian cuisine. We went for lunch on a Friday afternoon.
There is limited parking for about 3 cars at the entrance & the rest have to park alongside the main road.
We had Sarsaprilla Blonde Ale (in-house brew) & fresh lime soda, accompanied by Sigara Boregi (deep fried stuffed cheese rolls), Open Chicken Shawarma plate with Pita bread and Falafel Shawarma.
For dessert we had Mezmiz Knafeh (deep fried sevia topped with cream & dry fruits) & Umm Ali (Rich baked bread pudding with assorted nuts
We topped all this with a cup of Arabic Qahwa (this is a flavour filled Arabic coffee and not to be confused with its Indian cousin the Kashmiri Qawah, which is an infused Tea)
The ambience is wonderful and you find tapestries, paintings, knick knacks & objects-de-art which transport you to a West Asian setting. The staff is friendly and courteous & a special shoutout for Deepraj, who assisted us in our selection. The tastes were true to the original & not indianised. The flavours jumped out at you. The Sigara was a little oily but the Knafeh, Umm Ali & Arabic Qahwa more than made up. We enjoyed getting stuffed with all the fabulous flavours. Don't miss...
Read moreWent Sunday lunch, to this middle eastern cuisine restaurant, in Sangolda. Drinks: "Zest for Life" - just super! (a vodka based cocktail, as recommended by the talented barman Vishal). "Virgin hot Toddy" mocktail- another superb creation. Starters: 'Hummus bil Lahme' - humus, lamb, pita bread. & 'Zaatar prawns'. These Starters were excellent! in both taste & presentation. Entrée: Adana Kebab - mutton kebab with rice, pita, pickles - excellent again. Must say we could not fault the excellent food, & service (thanks to Shrada, the soft spoken, knowledgeable Restaurant manager). Pleasant ambiance, in this 3 sectioned restaurant. Would most certainly recommended you try out this restaurant for excellent Turkish -Persian cuisine. Note: They charge a 10% SC. A big negative is their very limited Parking arrangements. It's just a small parking slot (outside the busy heavy traffic road restaurant); that can accommodate only 3 cars. Else find parking beyond the restaurant along a very narrow heavily scrubbed area, under guidance of the security guard, who fortunately is very proactive. Would request the Management to work out sensible parking arrangements, for this 50+...
