Sunday 22nd June was a very special day for us. It was our Aai's (Mother's) 80th birthday. We- all her children, daughter-in-laws and grandchildren - had a quiet , warm celebration at home late morning. The birthday song was chanted, the cake was cut and lovely family pics clicked. Post cake cutting ceremony we had planned to go out for a lunch at a restaurant which must be classy and premium yet warm and cosy. It should be an authentic Goan, we all unanimously decided. And, without blinking a eye, the name that popped up in unison was ' SPICE GOA ' @SANGOLDA. Yes !!! This is THE PLACE which fulfills the criteria we all agreed. Immediately called the manager Vikram, booked a large table and headed to the Spice Goa @Sangolda. Housed in a magnificent Old Goan Mansion, aesthetically renovated, this place exudes cheerful vibes right from the entrance. With a lovely shades of yellow for the walls and soothing green for doors, windows the place just exudes welcoming warmth. Having been to Spice Goa at Karaswada, n number of times, we were all sure what to order. Tandoor Chicken, squids, mussels and "Chonak fish thalis" was the choice of most while " prawns fish thalis" was the choice of two. With a round of drinks to give enliven our talks and cheers we eagerly awaited for the thalis to come. Chicken was soft and tender, sqids, mussels freshly picked. Voila! there rolled in Special thalis on our table in a while. A first bite of crispy fresh Chonak fish... a first bite of rice nicely blended with Sungtache human ( prawn's curry) , kismoor.... wooow !!! Everything in the thali was just lip-smacking . Authentically Goan! Every one of us- in short the three generations- just relished the food from Spice Goa. With lovely live music playing melodious konkani numbers, breezy outdoor elegant seating in the aangan (courtyard) the ambience of the place makes it standout from normal/typical congested restaurants. We were pleasently surprised to see Dr Fish Atul shuttling in and out of kitchen, visiting the guests and supervising the cooks in the same elance. Yashovardhan along with his brother, makes a point to meet the guests and make them feel comfortable. As Mr Atul dropped in to talk to my Aai, asking for the feedback about taste of food, I casually mentioned to him that its her birthday today. To our pleasant surprise he presented us with a spread of delicious desserts as a complimentary birthday treat and a inhouse innovative cake. We were touched by this lovely gesture. Thanks a lot Mr Yashovardhan, Mr Atul and team Spice Goa, Sangolda for a...

One early afternoon, we were travelling on a two-wheeler to Panaji for lunch when, to our luck, it started raining heavily. We stopped for shelter right in front of Spice Goa restaurant in Sangolda.
Our first impression was that it looked like a regular food outlet housed in a restored Portuguese building. Since the rain continued for quite some time, we decided to step inside and try it out. To our surprise, the welcome we received was warm and genuinely hospitable. At first, we assumed this was because there were only a few customers around. But once we were guided to our table, we were impressed by the ambiance.
We took a quick look around and realized that the restaurant could easily accommodate over 150 guests at a time. The entire seating area was uniquely designed to suit different preferences, blending charm and comfort.
We chose to sit indoors at a table for four and were escorted by a well-dressed staff member, who asked if it was our first visit. Shortly after, we were offered a neatly rolled wet towel on a plate, carrying a delicate wildflower aroma — a refreshing touch that we truly appreciated.
The menu was presented in a folder filled with hundreds of options catering to a wide range of tastes. I ordered a Goan “Our Choice” beer, and my wife opted for a fresh lime soda. For starters, we were recommended their specialty — prawns baked and wrapped in banana leaf. Within minutes, our starters arrived, beautifully presented with a variety of sauces.
For the main course, we ordered the Chonak Fish Thali, which was served promptly. The slab of fish, shellfish, tiny prawns, and accompaniments were simply mouth-watering. The flavors were so rich and satisfying that we found ourselves licking every last bit of sauce from our plates. The portion sizes were also very reasonable.
To end the meal, we ordered the Sitafal Panacota for dessert. It was plated so elegantly that we actually hesitated to take the first bite!
The restaurant walls were decorated in pastel colours. Their wash-rooms were clean with aromatic candle lights. Their valet car park was well organised and supervised
By the time we finished our meal, the restaurant was nearly 80% full — a clear sign of its popularity.
We’ve dined at several top Goan food outlets in the past, but we can confidently say that this was one of the best experiences we've had. The food, service, and ambiance were outstanding, and the prices were very reasonable.
We will definitely return — and next time, we’ll bring...
Read moreTried out this new Branch (opened ~7 months back) of the famous "Spice Goa" brand, opened in Sangolda. Their base is at Karaswaddo, Mapuca, North Goa. They started an Outlet in Verem -which though successful, lets just say "mysteriously" closed - but what was Verem's loss is Sangolda's gain. This very impressive fine dine Outlet is inside an ancestral Portuguese exterior, and extends into a large Alfresco area, with total ~180 covers. I would suggest seating in the larger Alfresco area, as opposed to the cosy rooms seating available inside the bunglow itself, which also has a 12 seater PDR (private dining room). Although the main Alfresco area is large, it is very professionally & thoughtfully designed, into private spaces. Drinks: 'High tea cocktail' - a Jasmine infused gin base - super. 'Cherimoya mocktail' (Rs 335) - sitafal puree & coconut water drink - v good. Starters: 'Prawns in banana leaf' - steamed prawns in green masala (2pcs/banana wrap x5 wraps) - super. 'Mackerel thickley' - 3 pcs small mackerels in yummy spices - excellent. Entrée: Chonak fish thali - excellent!!; (though they can do better, by replacing the very unimpressive coconut 'kokad' sweet dish). Dessert: 'Sitafal (custard apple) panacotta, with tender coconut icecream' - the panacotta was fitted inside an edible chocolate coconut shell' - excellent in both presentation & taste, very strongly recommended! Also, besides the great food & ambiance, the Service (by Ambuj) was highly professional & spot on. Overall had an amazing & highly satisfying experience! So, just had to be all 5 stars! Would very strongly recommend this restaurant mainly for its 'Goan n Maharashatran' cuisine (ask for this menu); although they are dabbling with Indian & Chinese cuisine too ! Note: on request they display live crabs (say Rs 1350 - 1950 depending on size - see pic), prepared as per...
