Family Get Together at Angithi!
My loyalty for Mirch Masala acted like a double edged sword for it's vegetarian restaurant - Angithi. I have been a fan of their Mutton Bhuna Masala for quite some time now and I could never go to the same establishment for a vegetarian fare - untill now! A family dinner was to be arranged around Bodakdev and was asked to be at the helm of not only choosing the place but also the dishes, portions for 16 pax and everything related to the dinner.
After choosing the place, choosing dishes wasn't difficult. This is what was ordered.
Soup: Tomato Soup, Fresh Corn Soup and Lemon Coriander Soup were the three choices given to the family and majority chose Tomato. Now I'm not a soup person but this winter even to my surprise I've chosen soup for my meal a couple of times. Tomato soup was balanced well but the croutons were chewy and not crispy. The taste of the soup made up for this minor inconvenience (though for me croutons are as important in a Tomato soup as for the soup itself)
Starters: For starters, had chosen Karari Roomali for each table along with Ratalu Nariyal ni Pattice.
Karari Roomali was spicy because of the red chilly poweder and for a wintry evening, it was aptly spiced. Pro tip to order Karari
Roomali for the table is to ask the serving staff to make pieces and bring it to the table. My previous experience had taught me this because otherwise the table is a mess with full of crumbs making the table untidy.
Ratalu Nariyal ni Pattice was ordered just to break the monotony of Tikkas. This seemed different and thankfully the decision paid off. Pattice tasted really well but there wasn't even a subtle taste of Nariyal in it. Tasted good but didn't justify the name in it's truest sense.
Mains: Main course included Laziz Paneer, Subz Bhuna Masala, Veg Dum Biryani and assorted Indian breads.
The rationale for choosing these curries was simple. These are Angithi specials, a choice of Paneer and a choice of Mix Veg balances the menu and Paneer Laziz is made in red gravy whereas Subz Bhuna is brown gravy. Along with the balance in the menu, it balances the spice level as well.
Both the curries were phenomenal but Subz Bhuna Masala was the showstopper. Roomali Roti, Hariyali Naan and Butter Naan were amongst my top 3 choices of Indian breads in the same order.
Dum Biryani had everyone praising it equally. Special mention to the Dum given to the Biryani. The aroma and flavour of ghee was very evident from the dum. If you are rice eater, you cannot miss this. If you are a roti eater, you can give it a definite try.
The quality and taste of Mirch Masala can never be questioned and I hope it stays the same (for their own good). Angithi did make for a very flavorful family...
Read moreWe visited Angithi by Mirch Masala to celebrate a special occasion and had a mixed experience. The staff was extremely courteous and cooperative, and the service throughout the meal was smooth and attentive—which deserves appreciation.
We ordered a few popular items:
Masala Papad: A crisp and spicy start to the meal, served with the usual topping of chopped onions, tomatoes, and sev. Good for nibbling while you wait.
Raj Kachori (starter): Nicely presented, but the flavors felt muted. The stuffing and chutneys lacked the punch you typically expect from a good chaat item.
Veg Platter: This included a variety of tandoori-style starters like paneer tikka, mushrooms, and stuffed potatoes. The portion was generous, and everything was cooked well, but again, nothing that stood out in terms of flavor or spice balance.
Paneer Vegetable (main course): A safe and mildly spiced gravy dish. The paneer was soft and fresh, but the overall preparation felt standard—nothing that left a lasting impression.
Roti: Served hot and well-cooked, the rotis were soft and complemented the main course nicely.
In terms of taste and uniqueness, the restaurant falls into the category of “safe choices”—good for familiar North Indian dishes, but doesn’t offer anything that sets it apart in terms of flavor complexity or innovation. The menu and preparation feel similar to many mid-range North Indian restaurants.
I’m giving this place 3 stars—plus points for the nice service and good portion sizes, but deducting two stars because the taste and variety didn’t feel special or differentiated, especially when you're dining out for a celebration.
It’s a decent place for a casual family meal, but not something I’d go out of the way to recommend if you're looking for a memorable...
Read moreToday, I am very disappointed with the manager's behavior. I have visited this restaurant around 9 or 10 times before, but what the manager did today was completely unethical and wrong.
My father-in-law came from Surat, so I planned a dinner at this restaurant for him, my wife, and myself — a group of three. We were already seated and had even checked the menu to place our order. At that moment, a couple — possibly relatives of the manager — arrived and told the manager that they wanted to sit at our table.
The manager then came to us and said, “Please stand up and wait for 10 minutes, I will arrange a different table for you.” Out of courtesy, we agreed to wait. But to our surprise, the couple was already sitting at a 2-person table and simply wanted our 3-person table because it had a sofa.
This made me feel deeply upset and my father-in-law felt very insulted. I promise that neither I nor anyone in my circle will ever visit this restaurant again. I will make sure to share this experience with all my connections.
Shame on the manager and this so-called big restaurant group. It was a very bad and humiliating experience — all because of...
