Read moreKovallam has come up in the exact same place where philosophy club used to be, and is conveniently located near C G Road. Although there's no parking space, valet parking is available which is a relief given the parking hassles going on in the city right now. The facade, the gate, the space before the entrance, everything is thoughtfully designed and looks very classy. Since it is an old bungalow converted into a restaurant, some of the doorways are quite narrow. But the interior decor of the place is spot on - there are two large sitting areas with a joint capacity of around 50 people. Even the lighting is quite warm and makes you feel welcome. The place feels quite spacious because of the high ceilings and the open windows and the fact that the tables are spaced quite far from each other. The tables and chairs are quite comfortable and made out of wood. I especially loved the polish on the furniture - it looks very classy and luxurious. Even the service is great - the waiters are quite pleasant and polite. Can't complain about that as well!
I ordered a pody butter fry idlee which was absolutely delicious - oozing with butter and pody masala! I also ordered the ghee pody dosa, and I loved it as well. The sambar was absolutely delicious as well - it was neither viscous nor sweet - on the contrary, it was watered down and spicy - just the way I like it. Later, I ordered an appam and stew and a Malabar paratha with korma both of which were great as well. I loved the stew as well as the korma - the stew was on the sweeter side complementing the taste of the appam. The korma was on the spicier side complementing the slightly sweet taste of the Malabar paratha. It was also the first time that I had a slightly sweet Malabar paratha, and it tasted good with the korma. For dessert, I ordered the Kovallam Chirag, which was basically coconut halwa - but it is certainly the best coconut halwa I've had in Ahmedabad. If you are ever at this restaurant, do not miss the coconut halwa! Towards the end, I also ordered a filter coffee, which was...

We recently dined at Kovallam Restaurant – The South Indian Kitchen, and it was an absolutely delightful experience from start to finish. If you’re craving authentic South Indian flavors served with warmth and attention to detail, this place is a must-visit!
We started with the Taka Tak Bites, which were the perfect fusion-style appetizer. Crispy, spicy, and packed with flavor, they were a unique take that still managed to complement the traditional dishes beautifully.
For mains, we tried a variety of dosas, and each one impressed us in its own way: • The Rawa Masala Dosa had that perfect golden crispiness, with a slightly grainy texture that set it apart. The potato filling was flavorful without being overly spicy, and the dosa itself was cooked to perfection. • The Mysore Dosa was a standout – generously spread with a spicy chutney that gave it a delicious kick. It’s a must-try for anyone who loves bold flavors. • The Paper Dosa was a visual treat as much as a culinary one. Thin, huge, and wonderfully crispy, it came with just the right accompaniments to enhance the flavor without overpowering its delicate texture. • And of course, the Sambhar was absolutely spot-on – warm, hearty, and full of authentic South Indian spices. It tied everything together beautifully and was generously served with each dish.
What really sets Kovallam apart is their attention to authenticity. Every dish felt thoughtfully prepared, with traditional ingredients and cooking methods that honor South Indian culinary heritage. The service was friendly and attentive, and the ambiance was clean, welcoming, and perfect for a casual yet high-quality dining experience.
We left full, satisfied, and already planning our next visit. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a genuine taste of...
