Not really impressive. I will try to write a structured review of what all went wrong the when i visited. Of course if i am or anyone for that matter is visiting under the roof of Hyatt, they would expect a great dining experience with great food and service. The service want that bad to be precise but it wasn't will sequenced. Also if i am visiting an Italian restaurant, an authentic Italian restaurant i would expect a great variety of choices and variety. The menu lacked some basic and the most go to Italian delicacies.
I would've loved to see some options like Carpacio, Crostini, Antipasto salad and all to start off with. I was really looking forward to have the very popular Sphagetti Meatballs or some Tuna based Sicilian delicacy. Nevertheless, i settled for Fritto Misto - a battered fried assortment of Sea food including Prawns, Calamari and Sea fish. What i got was more of green veggies like broccoli, green beans and zucchini batter fried. Why would I want to have these vegetables fried in battered when they can be better served as lightly grilled garnish with the main food item. More over, i couldn't even find calamari in ring forms but broken into pieces which was disappointing. I could count the number of sea food fries in the plate.
After waiting for 20-25 minutes i got my Appetizers, in which the batter was hardly seasoned and was bland and flat. The batter was hardly cohesive on the veggies and it was leaking any sort of taste. Disappointment number 1 that is. The Entrees which we ordered arrived within 5 minutes of the appetizers and there was hardly anytime to enjoy the what-so-ever appetizers which we got. The sequence of the food timing was poor, at least that's the last i can expect in a 5 star hotel restaurant.
In the main course, i was really looking forward to have Sphagetti Meatballs, which wasn't there in the menu. Then i started to look for Linguine pasta or a Capellini pasta which also weren't in the menu so i eventually settled for a traditional lamb bolognese sauce with Tagliatelle Pasta. And my friend ordered for a traditional Sphagetti Carbonara. The most basic thing that was missing in both the pastas were the garlicky flavour kuch and that was disappointing at the sound of it. I mean i cant imagine having a pasta without any essence and flavour of garlic. The Bolognese sauce which is a traditional tomato based sauce was lacking a punch of even a aromatic shooting spicy kick, which is quite common in most of the Tomato based pasta sauces. It was really disappointing for the price i was supposed to pay for the things i ordered.
The Carbonara sauce beside the garlicky touch, also had the bacon which was definitely less crispy than desired. The idea to make the bacon crispy is to further cook the sauce with bacon fat with garlic in the same pan in which it was fried, and then later passively cook the crispy bacon with the sauce so that it normalises leaving a crunchy flavour and meaty texture. Because it was cooked less crispy the whole point of the bacon in the carbonara sauce was lost.
To further discuss, both the pastas were garnished with Parsley leaves. Till now wherever I have eaten Italian food, in India or in Europe, the Basil leaves are must to go with at least the White sauce base, as parsley has a very pungent after taste that is undesirable. The Bolognese pastav had no garnishing with Parmesan cheese grated over it. I will at least expect a zilch of it if i am paying almost 600/- bucks for it.
So, i felt it was an expensive experience without much worth to the price. It left me in a bizarre situation of what to say with the management in restaurant as they claimed it to be absolutely authentic Italian. I would humbly disagree to the fact that it was. And it definitely was over priced for the occasion and the offerings it made.
Not worth the price... I tried not to get intimidated by the panache and ambience of Hyatt as a brand but was more conscious about the food i would get as Italian food happens to be one of...
Read moreGiven the current trying times (April 2021), my wife and I wanted to go to a safe restaurant for an informal anniversary meal. China House at the Hyatt Regency in Ahmedabad was high up on our list. But that was closed due to Covid related scale-down, and only the Tinello restaurant was functioning. They had a limited offering from the China House too.
The staff (right from the valet to the doormen and the restaurant staff) were all masked. In fact, while driving in, the security guard sprayed the car handles with sanitiser while doing his check!
The restaurant was well laid out - with adequate spacing between tables. It was a weekday lunch - not many tables were occupied. The food choices were between a mixed cuisine a la carte and some set meals (two Chinese and two western options). Service was great - they paid attention to any special requests and tried to make them happen.
The food was good. The garlic bread was done on in-house focaccia - it was comfort food. The noodles and rice were great, and so was the stewed mixed vegetables. The dessert was excellent. The mushroom soup could've had some more traces of mushroom. The coffee could black coffee could definitely been better - from the bean selection to the brewing.
Amongst the personnel present was a F&B relations in charge - Malika. It was impressive to see the amount of attention she was paying to each diner table, and was ensuring that everything was okay with us. That level of personal service was a pleasure to experience. And on learning that it was our anniversary, she produced a lovely piece of carrot cake out of nowhere for us to take away. That was very touching.
Even other staff members were very attentive, including a gentleman by the name of Narayan.. The team never gave us the feeling that they were intrusive, and yet they were there whenever needed. Kudos.
This is a place I would strongly recommend. I am looking forward to getting back there myself - maybe for a breakfast this time.
I do hope that everyone from the Hyatt team stays safe. And that this pandemic is over soon, and we are back to traveling and dining...
Read moreAfter a fabulous experience at The China House by Hyatt, we decided to try out Tinello. Possibly the worst experience ever.
We were left on our own to figure out the menu and the buffet. After sitting idly for around 10-12 minutes, I had to fetch a waiter so he can get me the menu and actually take our order.
Whatever we wanted to order, either it would take 45 minutes or wouldn't be available. The server went on to tell us that if we order Asian, it'll be cold. I mean, you don't tell us these things. If you're a 5-star restaurant, you make it happen. Finally, we figured out we'll go with buffet. Again, still regretting.
From the starters to the main course, everything was cold. For the main course, we took Roghan Gosht Curry, which was already partially cold, and after waiting for 15 minutes, when nobody came to ask us for our roti preference, even though we were seated at the prime table and quite looking for somebody to take our roti order, we called one of the servers and they got back with roti after another few minutes. Until then, our food was now totally wasted.
We kept an eye out at the behaviour of other servers. It felt as if they were blind to only our table. We were not served with water, whereas all other tables were. We were not asked for our preference—mineral water or normal water, neither anybody refilled for us. This is something I totally didn't expect out of Hyatt.
The dishes... again, abandoned. I recalled calling one of the servers more than 5 times to clean our table and clear the dishes. Again, in buffet, this is a given that they take care of you. And when it's Hyatt, your expectations are higher.
Overall, Food - 1/5. Service - 0. Ambience - 3/5.
Note: No, the restaurant wasn't oozing with customers. There were hardly 3-4 tables filled. And the waiters would pass by our table, even give us side-eye as if we were unwelcome. Well,...
