One Star for the location, Another Star for the Tea. Everything else was terrible, overhyped and overpriced.
We got to know about this place from an IG story of an Influencer, and she mentioned this cafe as her breakfast go-to place.
And we decided to give this place a try. We parked at a paid parking spot for 30/hr. As soon we entered, we noticed that the servers were not interested and were not welcoming. Next to the cafe's shed, we saw tables on the outside, it was mostly occupied, and the tables were not clean.
We came back to the shed area and decided a table, and ordered the below items:
Cheese Sauce Pasta Masala Chai (Hot) Aloo Tikki Aloo Tikki Burger Iced Lemon Grass Tea
Within 5-6 minutes, the waiter came back with all the orders, and that's usually been a bad sign as per my own dining experience.
The Aloo Tikki Burger - ₹240 Forget the brands, street style Gupta Burger tastes better. Only the Burger buns were bigger; the patty tasted average. Except for a lettuce leaf and ketchup sauce. Nothing remarkable was there.
Aloo Tikki - It's precisely what was there in the Burger. Nothing special.
Lemongrass Iced Tea - tasted like it came straight from Lipton Lemon Sachet, and it was served cold. And with a spoon in the glass, No idea why they served iced tea with a spoon. Asked for a straw, they didn't have any.
Cheese Sauce Pasta - ₹330 while ordering, we asked if the chef would use actual cheese in it, and the waiter replied yes. but after 5 minutes, the Pasta blew our mind, because it was bland, made with white flour (maida) sauce, no cheese in it. And three small portions of broccoli and small minuscule bits of mushrooms and olives. We were served with a baked toast bread in the name of Garlic Bread.
When confronted about this with the Restaurant Manager, he acknowledged that they use Maida, and he mentioned that there was cheese in it. But I didn't find any. Don't we all know how cheese tastes like?
Anyhow, I generally love writing great reviews for places I visit by giving them great feedback, but no other place has disappointed me like this one. In my opinion, Roots Cafe is a rip-off, and I would not recommend it if you're going with an expectation of a great dining experience with your loved ones.
The only good thing we had was the Masala Chai here, and the location is an absolute gem; it is located in a lovely park. On my next visit ever, I will only choose to have tea, and I recommend the...
