Imli Sarai — Restaurant in Hyderabad

4 of us went to Imli Sarai in Banjara Hills. I had heard great things about it and wanted to check it out. The ambience of the place is impressive and especially since we went on an evening when it was drizzling, the effect was enhanced. The service was prompt. The food was pretty good. All of us were impressed. We ordered Dahi kebab - it was good but a little too sweet. We squeezed a bit of lemon to balance the flavour. 3.5* Fish kebab - Taste was good. The fish was flaky but a tad bit overcooked. 3.5* Veggie Pizza - this was really really good. It had zucchini, brinjal, tomatoes etc. the crust was homemade and tasted good. 4* Homemade nachos - these were served with salsa and guacamole. They were great. 4* Provencale tomato and goat cheese pie - we ordered this because it looked interesting. The waiter warned us that it was a very small serving but we still ordered and did not regret the decision. It was really small and more like a pizza(flat) than a pie. The taste was good. 4* Subz ki Biryani - This was a surprise. The flavour was mild but awesome. The spices did not overpower the senses but were delicate. It was served with raita and mirchi ka salan. The mirchi ka salan was also good. It was the usual spicy gravy but well balanced and flavorsome. 4.5* For dessert we had Mille Feuille - this was not bad. The pastry has become a bit soggy, maybe because of the weather. Update:. I've been back several times (see first reviews below). I am updating my review because each subsequent experience has been a bit worse than the previous one. If the food finally arrives, most of it is still good (the Provencal tomato and goat cheese tart was a joke... soggy tomatoes on puff pastry). The problem is you may not get your food or drink for hours. You may not get what you ordered. You may get the appetiser after the mains. One persons order may arrive and not the others'. Its absolute chaos. The last time was on a sunday and we were also looking fwd to the music, which was listed as a "A Jazz Duo to Remember". The range was Girl from Ipenema to Mylie Cyrus. Jazz???????. I cld go on. I hope things improve. It would be a shame if they did not. Original Review: This a a lovely place with great food. I have been in Hyderabad six months and have despaired at the quality non-Indian food here. Imli Sarai beats all the "Italian" places I have tried - Nova/Toscana/even Tre Forni. Admittedly we only had a pasta (10/10) and a pizza (9/10) and the tiramisu (8/10), but getting basics right is a very good sign.
