‘Pompeii Pizza Studio’ reminds me of a traditional Italian Deli that serves no frill Italian masterpieces in a lush green rooftop and a vivid indoor seating for a perfect brunch with family and friends. Located at the quiet lanes of Madhapur, this place is recommended for patrons who love authentic Neapolitan pizzas.
We were invited for a private blogger’s table this weekend and the review of few noteworthy dishes at the restaurant are as follows.
Mocktails:
Bubblegum & Candied Mint Soda: The cocktail combines favours off bubblegum - strawberry, banana and cherry paired with sharp peppermint kick topped with soda. In short, nostalgia in a bottle.
Cactus and Cucumber Italian Soda: The cactus water is a new entrant to the natural beverage segment, with the plant based juices from the prickly pear of the cactus in the drink is paired with refreshing cucumber juice along with sparkling soda makes this a showstopper.
Salads:
Fresh Burrata Salad: The salad has a zesty combination of burrata, freshly ground pesto, balsamic vinegar over a bed of fresh rockets , cherry tomato in a salad bowl. The soft burrata shell with a creamy centre delivers a buttery sensation when cut open over the bed of crunchy rocket which cuts through the tartness of the balsamic dressing and sharpness of the pesto in the plate. Overall a stunner when it comes to choosing a salad to start your course.
Pizzas:
Chicken Contadina Pizza: All their pizzas are made from imported wheat flour with precise ’00’ standards that gives a silky smooth dough that yields a wonderfully chewy, crispy crust. The smokiness to the base comes from the perfectly heated wood fired oven which is rare to find here. The Chicken Contadina which is topped on the crust is a rustic country-side chicken dish, where chicken breasts are cooked in a sauce of tomato, red or white wine, fresh vegetables tossed in garlic cloves, Italian herbs and fresh basil. Drizzled with some high quality olive oil, this makes a perfect order for a pizza night.
Pizza Bianca: Another noteworthy mention would be their white pizza made from pancetta, mozzarella, parmesan flakes, cherry tomatoes and wild mushrooms. The crispy golden crust makes a perfect accompaniment for the gooey cheese and sautéed wild mushrooms and sunbaked cherry tomatoes. A pizza indeed for the mighty hearted Neapolitan purists.
Calzones:
Chicken Ham Calzone: These traditional calzones served here are stuffed with prosciutto, smoked chicken ham, ricotta, and mozzarella cheese. The addition of freshly ground pesto to the filling adds a myriad of flavours to the mundane classic.
Dessets:
Classic Tiramisu: The classic Italian no bake dessert served here contains coffee liqueur soaked candied ladyfingers grounded and layered with sweet whipping cream. Read moreA cute place, which we were impressed with until we walked in - outside is filled with greenery, but the inside is just crude - with walls patched up, looks like there was beautiful artwork at one point, but not anymore, just cracks and splashes of cement to cover them up.
They didn't have any chicken wings or Italian soda or cool drinks, which was a little dishearting, as we checked out the menu before we arrived. They also did not have any blue cheese dressing/ sauce and no tiramisu. All of these items we tried to order, and they did not have them.
The menu was a bit weird. It was a pdf message but we only got it if we scanned a QR code which opened up a WhatsApp chat and then we had to download the pdf - too much work!
We went up to check out the place but it was basically a storage area, with people walking in and out.
I don't think it's a good idea for the open kitchen/ pizza oven plan. As we can see that the chef touches the pizza and everything else with the same hands - opens doors, takes orders, etc. And also it got hot pretty quickly, even with the fans and ac on, especially because there were no windows or doors open to push all the pizza oven heat out.
What we ordered:
Plain classic garlic - excellent! We couldn't get enough of it. We added a little olive oil (which you can tell is not a great quality) but it made it so much better! We even asked for some pizza sauce which they were nice enough to bring and it just went so well together!!
PIZAA Half/ Half - classic Margherita and chicken Contadina - done really well. Unfortunately, we asked for thin crust, and got Neapolitan crust, especially after we had a long discussion about it. But the pizza itself was really great!!
The food was definitely worth it, but I don't think I would go back and sit and eat there. I would either grab it to-go or try the other location. HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE FOOD!! Totally impressed with the house made sauce which is way beyond regular marinara sauce , quality of cheese and amazing pizza base makes it one of the best and authentic Neapolitan pizzas in Town. We started with Classic Caesar Salad : great textures, fresh crisp lettuce along with caper berry dossed with classic dressing. On top crispy parmesan biscuit and light parmesan tuile added crunch to the salad. Salad was served with classic sourdough toast.
Fresh Burrata Salad: This one is a keeper for sure. Fresh greens along with big block of Burrata. The sight of soft creamy cheese rushing out when you cut open the burrata makes the best insta pics :) . This mild cheese is paired with salty parma ham balance out the entire salad bowl. Topped with fine Truffle mushroom adds earthy ness to the salad.
Italian Sodas: Home made soda topped with whipped cream comes in Bubblegum and Candied Mint flavour . Some thing different from usual mocktails
Cactus and Cucumber: Perfect for health conscious people.
Quattro Formaggi and Prosciutto De Mascarpone Pizza Combination of house made marinara sauce with choicest cheese was beyond fab. We had half n half of both pizzas.
Tiramisu : One of the best classic Tiramisu I had after long long long time. The best one was made by yours truly😅.
Blueberry cheese cake Jar: Crunchy lotus cookie base topped with lucious Cream cheese with blueberry compote tasted fantabulous.
We didn't feel heavy after eating so much. This simply shows the quality of ingredients they use to make such heavenly dishes .
Pompeii pizza studio not only serves authentic Italian delicacies but also have worked hard on their ambience. Their indoor setup is classy minimalistic and the outdoor and rooftop setup is lush green and gives you great vibes.
