Review: A Disappointing Coffee Experience
I recently visited Roastery Coffee House with friends, expecting a cozy café experience. Unfortunately, the visit was a complete letdown, from mediocre drinks and terrible food to dismissive service.
Coffee & Beverages: Unimpressive and Forgettable Given the café’s focus on coffee, I had certain expectations—but what we received was underwhelming at best. The coffee was average, lacking depth or character.
The hot chocolate was even worse—not thin, but thick and terrible tasting. While the texture was on point, the flavor was outright wrong—it lacked the deep, rich cocoa notes that make a good hot chocolate enjoyable. Instead, it tasted off, artificial, and unbalanced, making it an overall unpleasant experience despite having the right consistency.
The only somewhat tolerable items were the Vietnamese drip, cold brew, and watermelon feta salad, but even these were merely passable, not exceptional. None of them were worth revisiting.
Food: A Complete Disaster If the beverages were disappointing, the food was an outright disaster. I ordered the aglio olio, expecting a simple yet flavorful dish, but it turned out to be one of the worst versions I’ve ever had. The pasta was overcooked, bland, and lacked even the basic seasoning that defines the dish.
But the biggest culinary offense? The garlic bread. Instead of crispy, well-seasoned slices, they served halves of a burger bun with some form of garlic topping. The texture was completely wrong, there was no cheese pull, and the flavor was terrible—bland, greasy, and utterly disappointing. It felt like they had no idea what garlic bread is supposed to be.
Service: Dismissive and Unapologetic Bad food can sometimes be salvaged by good service, but here, the staff's attitude made things even worse. When we politely pointed out the issues with our food, the waiter deflected all complaints with a generic, dismissive response: "This is how we do it."
There was zero willingness to accept feedback or acknowledge any shortcomings. Instead of trying to improve or even offering a basic apology, they seemed completely averse to criticism. The overall attitude was indifferent and unwelcoming, making the entire experience frustrating.
Final Verdict There are countless cafés that serve better coffee, better food, and actually care about customer experience—this is absolutely not one of them.
The few palatable items (Vietnamese drip, cold brew, and watermelon feta salad) were barely decent, while the aglio olio was a disaster, the garlic bread was a joke, and the hot chocolate had the right texture but tasted outright wrong.
To make matters worse, the prices were exorbitant for what was served. Paying premium rates for subpar food, average coffee, and dismissive service makes this place one of the worst value-for-money experiences I’ve had in a long time.
What truly sealed the deal, though, was the staff’s unwillingness to accept feedback or even show the slightest courtesy. Their dismissive attitude and lack of accountability ensured that this visit would be my first and last.
Would I return? Absolutely not. If you’re looking for a good café experience, look elsewhere—this place is not worth your...

Read moreLocated in a lovely bungalow that once belonged to a writer from Kolkata, the cafe has both indoor and outdoor seating. The cool breeze on a monsoon evening tempts my group to enjoy the outdoors but anticipating that it may rain, we sat inside. But not before we spend time bonding around a stepwell or baori that has been built here. Made of pink Jodhpur sandstone, it looks stunning with steps on four sides leading to a small water body where rainwater is harvested. White wrought iron chairs and tables placed are around the stepwell and the garden area blends perfectly with the relaxed vibe. I anticipate that this outdoor space is going to be a popular spot in winter when the sun streams in through the cane mesh.
Exteriors of Restaurant The restaurant offers indoors and outdoors seating, both. “Vishal came up with the idea of doing a stepwell since he is from Jodhpur. But building it was the tricky part,” says Sinha. “We hired local artisans and it took about six months to build it,” he adds.
Spread over three sections, including the first floor with a balcony, the indoor seating area also gives a sense of space. There’s a coffee bar and retail shelves where one can buy coffee and chocolates. When it comes to food, the choice is wide. It goes all the way from sandwiches, pastas, pizzas, burgers to wholesome breakfast platters. I don’t think there is any other cafe in Jaipur that offers this much variety. This evening, I have the barbecue chicken wings and fish fingers. My vegetarian friend orders for avocado bruschetta. All three dishes are perfectly flavoured and I find myself licking my fingers clean after the chicken wings—they were so good!
Those who don’t want a full breakfast platter can opt for toasts like banana peanut butter toast and apple hazelnut spread toast. You can’t leave without a taste of the desserts, especially the twice baked chocolate cake.
Sourced from some of the best coffee estates in the country and roasted in-house, Roastery Coffee House takes coffee-drinking seriously. Whether you want French Press, Aero-press or pour-over, it is all available here. For those who like to experiment, there are fruit flavoured coffees, too. My weakness is the cranberry coffee. It’s a delicious shot of espresso with soda and cranberry juice.
The hot chocolates range from 55 to 85 percent dark, and the latter is not for the faint-hearted! It is thick and really good. Try their cold brew and vegan coffees as well.
I wrap up the evening feeling that the cafe is an apt ode to the city, plugging into its past and yet in keeping with the times.
