East End Hotel, was established in the year 1970 by Mr.K.K.Uttaiah, a forest officer is a Landmark Hotel in downtown Madikeri. Started as a Motel for travellers travelling from Mysore to Mangalore and vice versa. East End Hotel continued the customs and traditions of the bygone British era with white linen for dining tables and clean large rest rooms. It was patronised by the elite of South Coorg , Mysore and Mangalore. With great demand and popularity, the Motel was transformed into a hotel with a well planned spacious dining area and few reserved rooms for family dining. East End Hotel was one of the first hotels in the region to serve with clean stainless steel crockery and cutlery.Hot water was served throughout the day both for drinking and hand wash ( finger bowl). The menu included local delicacies like Masala dosa, Egg dosa, Kheema dosa,Coorg chicken curry, chicken fry, mutton Palao, mutton curry, mutton fry, Coorg meat ball curry, Mutton cutlet, etc. Each item was timed and served and patrons would oblige accordingly. Today , 50 years plus, the founder's nephew Mr Sagar Subbaiah, a B.Sc.Agriculuture graduate with over 20 years over seas experience, continues the same traditions with passion and dedication. He is smart, ever smiling and courteous to each every customer who walks into the hotel for relishing the tasty coorgi quisine. Monitors the entire activities in the hotel from kitchen to dining area and front office for effective supervision from his chamber through CCTV camera. I used to visit East End Hotel regularly during 1984 to 1989 with my forest officer friend during official visits and enjoyed the authentic coorgi food. Again visited East End Hotel from year 2001 onwards while transitting through Madikeri to Mangalore. I visited East End Hotel with my friend and enjoyed the vegetarian and non-vegetarian food last week. Was happy to meet Mr.Sagar Subbaiah in person on 30.8.21. Wishing him all the best for continuing the legacy of 50+ years of East End Hotel and all his future endeavours.

The East End Restaurant charms with its nostalgic Indian ambiance, reminiscent of a bygone era. However, the culinary aspect disappoints significantly. The excessive use of artificial colorants in the dishes detracts from their appeal, and the utilization of pre-packed chapatis and parathas undermines the authenticity of the cuisine. For those seeking a delightful ambiance, it's a plausible choice, but for a gastronomic journey, it falls regrettably short. Adding to the disappointment, the East End Restaurant presents an enticing menu, but the stark reality unfolds upon inquiry—many items listed are unavailable. This mismatch between the menu's promises and the actual availability further diminishes the overall dining experience.

Nice and cozy, with very helpful staff and a great restaurant. Their breakfast menu is well recommended, especially their dosas. The location is also good, right on the main road. Plenty of shops and restaurants nearby as well. The hotel building itself is quite old, but retains its charm very well. There are several vintage objects decorating, and sometimes being used in the different rooms. I enjoyed my overnight stay here, and would easily recommend it to anyone who likes a rustic experience.

The one star rating is for the service given by P.M. Rajesh who was as rude as it can get. Since the moment me and my family walked in, he was rude. We went outside to take a seat in their outdoor seating area and he just yelled at us and said that 4 people can't sit there. This was the second time I was here and even this time he was this rude. Then when asked where we can smoke, our waiter(Mrugesh, who by the way was so so sweet and very attending) said we can go outside. We went outside for a smoke only to he followed by Rajesh yelling at my 75 year grandfather while raising his hand at him. This is absolutely outrageous. He then started to threaten us by saying that "I have seen many people like you" and continuing to threaten my grandfather as he was complaining to the manager. It was almost as if he was just against my family and me for no reason. There was no response from the manager enough to take action against this behaviour. |We felt unsafe and attacked and that is the worst thing to feel anywhere, let alone a vacation. I will not recommend anyone to go here, only and only for the terrible service and behaviour we...
