Not the Diana it once was. Used to frequent here while travelling from Mangalore to Thirthahalli and back. This time visited after almost 10 years, on a Sunday evening. When asked for menu card, they said there isn't one. The waiter said there were 3 sundaes available and we ordered all 3 along with masala dosae and cutlets. Ice cream sundaes were below par in quality. Tastes extremely sugary and the flavors are very very mild. Masala dosae was tasty and crunch, loved it! Cutlets had a burnt taste due to burnt spices, I believe. The sauce given with the cutlet was some sort of cocktail of ketchup and other sauces. Did not taste good. Shocker was the prices. Our total bill was 657. Ice cream sundaes cost 175 rs each except Gudbud. Really expensive for what they offer. 2/5 stars. Edit: Visited again after 3 years. Abysmal service. They treat you as if you’re there for free food. After making us wait for 15 mins while 75% of the tables were empty and for some unknown reason not serviceable at 5pm on a public holiday. The waiters don’t listen to the manager. Half of the menu is unavailable. Very disappointing experience

I heard about this place from my mom who's an long time fan of this restaurant. She highly recommend the place to me. Esp. cutlet and poori kurma. In my honest opinion, the fame doesn't really live upto the quality of the food served. What's wrong. 1. Vanaspati/Dalda: It's big red flag if when restaurants use vanaspati. Cutlet seemed like it was deep fried with Dalda. There're a lot of health hazards associated with Dalda. Google for further read. 2. Taste: I didn't feel the exceptional Diana taste in Poori or cutlet. It was overcooked in the outside and still moist/ undercooked on the inside. I did however liked the gatti chutney that comes with it. Poori too was undercooked and kurma was very basic and tastes like it was made for folks who are on medication. 3. Price: Overpriced for something that's this average. What could be right: 1. Bring back the old Diana taste and quality which our prev generation spoke so highly of. Bring back the legend that's now a myth. 2. Food: pay attention to what's served. Serving 1 bad customer will most definitely result in the loss or 50 more.

A budget hotel for short stay in Udupi. If you are visiting Udupi matta then its walkable to this hotel. The location is prime and its near to the highway too. The rooms are quite clean and well maintained. The room has all the amentities like fan, TV ,air conditioner and free wifi. Also the rooms are well light up and ventilated. The reception service is little inconsistent as some of the calls are not answered. All the complimentary from one litre of water, dental kit, Comb and fresh towels are provided. The food service is available for breakfast and the evening snacks. However the in house restaurant is only open from 8.30 AM to 1 PM and then from 3.30 PM to 9.30 PM. So Lunch is not available and it needs to ordered from outside. This is biggest shortcoming. There is no laundry service. So overall its an average hotel and it could have been better if the reception ,lunch and laundry service were available.

Hello all,

Recently visited Hotel Diana Udupi and here is my review.

Washrooms are damn dirty, can't think of using it. Handwash is in separate room, which was ok to use. While coming to food, i feel Diana has lost its charm w.r.t food which was there 10 years back. There was a time where people were planning to visit Diana during their stay in mangalore region (it was kind of "must" and "should". But now the quality and taste of their food has completely reduced.

We ordered for the the following things : Cutlet : was good. Puri & paneer butter masala : poori was oily, curry was too sweet. Puri & kurma : poori was oily and kurma was very sweet too. Not taste. Gulla podi : it was around 7 to 8 pieces per plate. But we had to find the vegetable inside the besan coating. It was chopped so thin that i dint feel i ate gulla podi at all Nendrabale podi : was ok....better than gulla podi. Gudbad : we thought atleast this was good. But it was worst too. Pista and strawberry ice creams were present. The quality and taste of ice cream was too low. For that price the gudbad was tasting bad. Bonda milkshake : this was good. Cheese sandwich : this was one of the worst sandwich i had. They charged us Rs.110 for it but the sandwich was not grilled too. Just 2 pieces of bread with sides removed and one slice of amul cheese placed in between. I need not come to Diana to eat this rather can make this at my hotel room without flame. After requesting to toast it, they agreed to toast the sandwich and also told us it will take a lot of time, which was disheartening.

The total bill amount was nowhere less for the worst quality food they served us.

Anyhow I don't have anymore guilt that i dint visit Diana during my travel. I am happy that I can skip this restaurent whole heartedly from next...

Review is based on our stay on 30 dec 21 to 2 Jan 22. First things first: pls stay here only if u don't get any other hotel to stay in Udupi town.

Pros: Decent size room for 2 Spacious and spaced out toilet cum bath room Locationwise it is very ideal and with less crowded road

Cons : Only one house keeping staff thru the day for everything and she shows up only after 9am or later. One admin staf with no clue of anything. All hotels in the town are running full and Diana has only two rooms filled. It should be a good sign for clients. Rooms are absolutely untidy as we checkin despite most of the rooms being empty they struggle to decide so we can be moved to another room No formal parking apart from what's available on the sides of the road and Diana building if u r paying by Card, pls make sure the restaurant is open while u checkout else that's the only place where the POS is available. If it's closed, u don't have any choice Basic service like daily water bottle, u get, if u ask else enjoy as is. check the room before logging in to make sure it is clean. don't use staircase after sunset until sunrise .... No lights are lit so u feel like u r going through a scene of RamGopalVerma's scary movies of 90's. It is pitch dark and only ur phone can help u.

Sight not to miss : Have a look at the fan in the reception area and it will talk everything about the quality of the place. Nothing more nothing less .

Owners are hardly worried about the client service as they are overwhelmed with the crowd visiting their restaurant.

To repeat: if u don't get any other place go for this unnecessarily expensive place which does not add any value to ur...

I don't know about rooms as never been to rooms... but yesterday we had been there to Diana after a long time as Diana got shifted from old place city to new place ... we were so exited with full on hungry mood .... but I request the owner as Diana it's self was a brand in udupi from my childhood days specially puri bajii and dahi wada with juice named as 30% and 60%... but it was so heart breaking and frustrated that each and every dish we ordered were so pethathic it was not what Diana is known for.. puru hajji worst, idli very worst , chapthi karma again worst, cutlet compley burnt ,cheese balls again not able to find cheese inside ,banana podi never had such a worst banana podi ... hope the owners take it seriously and change entire staffing in kitchen so atleast not worst food served in very good price ... else soon diana will be rembered in history of udupi one of the finest restaurant from last 40-50yrs hotels...only butter sandwich was good specially the bread texture... hope the owners will realaize and bounce back soon with new management and skilled staff.. even I felt sad to review this but certain time criticism specially facts should be known to make...
