Ok so I ll have to do a very indepth review of this place, mainly because it is soo beloved. This is from the perspective of a non-native, trying out native culture and learning about it. So hopefully this gives you a better idea of what to expect.
1- Ambiance/atmosphere - It is a very old establishment with dhaba vibes. Nothing fancy, nothing pinteresty. So that is one thing you should keep in mind if you visit.
2- Service - You ll be barely interacting with the staff. Everything is super fast paced, there are only two items in the menu, you choose A or B and the items start pouring out of the kitchen. Everything happens quickly, swiftly.
3- Food - This is the controversial opinion. Is this the best dosai I had? No. But will I go for it again? Yes. Why? Because its unique, different and tastes good. It does not satisfy the version of "dosai" that i have in my head..so it wont be my first option when i think of Dosai, but it will definitely be a recommendation when Mysuru is the subject of talk. The dosai itself is soft. Its not crispy. It does not have crispy outer-soft interior thing going on either. It is simply full on soft. So if you prefer the crispy variants of the dose, this might not be for you. The pallya stuffed within, is not a potato pallya but a vegtable pallya and this is where this dosa gets its spice and flavour. Once again, if you prefer potato filling, this might not be for you. The chutney, is completely devoid of spices as the pallya/sagu does that job here.
So if all these fit your version of Dosa, you'll love it. If not, you should still try it atleast once, because this variant is unique to Mysuru and its worth experiencing it in a no-nonsense and non-pretentious...
Read moreOverhyped place, will never go again! Went there because of the hype and wife's insistence after travelling for more than 2 hours on our way back from Kabini to Bangalore. We badly needed to use the bathroom too and can you believe it, this place doesn't even have one!! Just because they made some name some generations back they think people will just go there even if they can't provide basic amenities, such arrogance!? They think they can do whatever with such a rundown place? Because of these low life's even the security at the hospital opposite did not let us use their toilets..probably because they are used to Mylari customers going there! Now coming to the food...very mediocre tasting dosa...correction, set dosa with some kind of chutney inside. We were sitting next to a window and noticed cockroach legs. Cant they keep such a tiny place also clean?? And added to that no tea or coffee served and its breakfast time mind you....although it was written in their...
Read morevisited Mylari Hotel's new outlet, drawn by its reputation as an old, authentic South Indian gem. The exclusive focus on idli and dosa truly captures the essence of traditional flavors. The bustling atmosphere attests to its popularity, a testament to the genuine South Indian taste it delivers. However, the absence of a numbered table system was somewhat inconvenient. Guests need to personally secure a table by standing nearby, creating an awkward dynamic. Despite this minor setback, the overall experience is worthwhile for those seeking an authentic culinary journey. The charm of Mylari lies in its commitment to preserving and serving the true essence of South Indian cuisine. The crowded ambiance, while a sign of its success, could benefit from an improved table management system. In conclusion, Mylari Hotel offers a delightful venture into South Indian culinary traditions, making it a must-visit for those craving genuine...
