Prasanna Krishnaswamy Temple is an ancient temple built by the Maharaja of Mysore, Krishnaraja Wodeyar III, within the Palace complex. The Wodeyar dynasty of Mysore is believed to be descendents of Yadu Vansha. Hence the temple was dedicated to Lord Krishna in order to honour the founder of the Yadu Vansha, Lord Krishna. Built in 1825 -1829, Prasanna Krishnaswamy Temple has an enclosure or Prakaram and Navaranga or the central pillared hall. There are more than 40 bronze statues of deities and saints in the temple which were presented by Krishnaraja Wodeyar III. There is a minor shrine dedicated to sage Atri, the gotra-rishi of the Wodeyar dynasty inside the temple. Another shrine dedicated to Ramanujacharya abodes Paravasudeva, Anathasayana and Rajamannar. In the inner walls of Navaranga, the murals depicting the stories of Sri Bhagavad Gita can be seen, which are considered as a fine example of 19th century Mysore painting. The idol of the main deity, Lord Krishna, worshipped in the sanctum sanctorum is made of chlorite schist. This idol, known by the name Ambegalu Krishna, is an image of young Krishna in crawling posture with a butter ball in his hand and a childish mischievous expression. This temple is dedicated to Lord Krishna which is located towards the eastern end of main palace building.The temple was built in 1829 by Krishnaraja Wodeyar III. As we enter the temple we can see the murals on the inner walls of central pillared hall, depicting the tales from the Hindu religious Bhagavata book which is based on the life of Lord Krishna, which are considered as a excellent example of 19th century Mysore art. IN THE SANCTUM- SANCTORUM INFANT KRISHNA CALLED AMBEGALU KRISHNA, MADE OF CHLORITE SCHIST IS INSTALLED, ON THE RIGHT AND LEFT OF THE MAIN SHRINE ARE SHRINES OF SATYABHAMA OR ANDAL AND RUKMINI OR PENDEVI SAID HAVE BEEN BROUGHT ORIGINALLY FROM KANCHI AND INSTALLED AT TERAKANARNBI; AND LATER RELOCATED TO THIS TEMPLE.
