Coconut Grove — Restaurant in Kerala

Honestly my experience was good for the most part. We got their chicken salad plus a fruit salad with ice cream. We ate the salad first and everything was fine, it was really good! Until my parents and I tried the fruit salad. As we were eating it we noticed that the oranges and the watermelon were spoiled. We tried telling the server and he even tried it himself from our bowl of food. He had the nerve to say we were lying and that the fruits were fresh and good! I have been dining at several restaurants across the beach in Kovalam and have not had this issue since my trip started here on April 17th. We did not end up finishing our fruit salad and were ready to leave. We proceeded to ask for the bill and saw that they still charged us for the fruit salad even after complaining that the fruits were spoiled. We then walked up and tried talking to the manager, the server then intervened and started talking in their language which is Malayalam like we didn’t understand a thing he was saying. We then stepped in and explained what was wrong. The manager told him to take the item off and to only charge us for the the two chicken salads we ordered. As we were proceeding to pay the manger then started mumbling and bickering. We then tried to explain their mistake again but then he tried raising his voice and was trying to get us to get out the store. My dad then jumped in and started explaining that what they were doing was wrong and they should not be serving spoiled fruits. I say all this to say just be careful and if your going to go there make sure you carefully eat the food. I do not wish any bad experiences on anyone. Once u enter this restaurant u will feel that u have made mistake by entering this restaurant..they r simply racist who only prefer people from outside India...they simply don't like Indians and the proof of this u can chk in the other reviews posted by Indians and also NRI people who also felt they r very racist, although they r Indian but only like foreigners...they will talk to every indian in a very rude manner whenever they r serving u but once any foreigners come to their restaurant,u guys shud see the glaze in their face...they serve them like they r the only atithi and maintain athithidevo bhava mantra .... Indian shud start boycott them and even the people who r actually care about human...i personally felt very insulted although after independence they treat us like dogs and in their defend they say it's their nature to talk to Indians like this...I'm truly sad that this kind of service in India or people still exists...very sad tht they call Kerala as God's own Country with this kind of hospitality to their own country people...in this hospitality industry the service matters apart from food they r serving...if u r not welcome in a warm manner and instead treat u like dogs u don't feel like coming to the place and i will not come to this place anymore...thnk u so much the team of coconut grove to make us realise tht u still make us feel as dogs in front of the...

Before coming here I suggest reading the negative comments.

The 1st 2 rows of tables all have reserved signs on them, and how this operates is worthy of apartheid South Africa. When we arrived there were 1st row tables free, but we were put in row 2 (coloured privilege maybe - one white person, one Indian⁰). There was a non-white UK family in row 3 when we arrived, isolated on their own, with lots of row 1 and 2 tables free

Service - no real interaction if I'm polite, if I'm not polite, I would it say it was utter indifference Food - our usual selection of fresh fish and a couple of veg dishes. Fish was nowhere near the usual quality or quantity we have had every other time, here in Kovalam Asked for medium Indian spicy, and explained what we meant by that, but the food had no flavour or heat, waiter said , after he asked us after we finished, he said that this was because the tourists dont like it spicy

I can accept indifferent food, delivered with charm, but spare me the additional blatant racism

Going back here ? NO ! Why did we go? Because our hotel manager...
