I visited MRA Restaurant in Edappally with my wife for dinner. The restaurant has a pleasant, family-friendly ambience and the dining area is kept clean. The staff were polite and attentive in their manner, which made us feel welcome, but there are a number of areas that need attention to make the overall experience consistent with the price point.
I had visited the MRA outlet in Trivandrum quite a few years back, and that visit had been somewhat disappointing—the food, especially the fried rice, had an odd aftertaste (Tasted clorine). So, I was curious to see if the Edappally branch had improved on those aspects.
What we ordered
Chicken Kizhi Porotta (≈ ₹260) — The flavour was good: soft porottas and well-spiced chicken. However, the portion was very small for the price (only two porottas, a small amount of chicken and gravy), so the value felt poor.
Al-Fahm Chicken Mandi (≈ ₹310) — Disappointing. The mandi lacked the expected aroma and depth of flavour, and the chicken and rice were underwhelming. The usual salad/side that normally accompanies mandi was missing.
Service & food temperature
The staff attitude was polite, but service was slow. We waited longer than expected even though the restaurant was not crowded.
When the food arrived it was cold / lukewarm, which significantly reduced the enjoyment of the dishes.
Ambience, cleanliness & parking
Ambience is comfortable and the interior is neat—good for family dining.
Cleanliness was acceptable overall.
Parking is limited. There are a few parking slots, but most visitors end up relying on street parking, which can be inconvenient during busy hours.
Value for money?
Pricing felt high relative to portion sizes and taste consistency. Given the quantity of the Kizhi Porotta and the quality of the Al-Fahm Mandi, the meal did not feel worth the combined price.
Improving portion sizes or adjusting prices would make the offer feel fairer.
Suggestions for improvement
Ensure hot food is served hot—review kitchen plating/timing so dishes reach the table at proper temperature.
Improve consistency of mandi preparation (better seasoning/aroma) and make sure standard accompaniments (salad/side) are always included.
Review portion sizes versus price, or add small complimentary sides to increase perceived value.
Speed up service even during low occupancy—revisit kitchen workflow and order handling.
Clarify and expand parking options or provide guidance to nearby parking to ease customer access.
Overall impression MRA Edappally has a nice ambience and courteous staff, and some dishes (like the Chicken Kizhi Porotta) show promise on flavour. However, inconsistent food quality, small portions for the price, cold serving temperature and slow service detract from the experience. With a few operational improvements—especially serving food hot, improving mandi flavour, and addressing portion/value—this place could easily become a reliable go-to...
Read moreWe went out for evening tea and snacks on 25th October. We ordered two coffees and one plate of beef kunjipathiri. A little later, I was shocked to find a chicken feather cooked along with the snack — absolutely disgusting! 🤢 I couldn’t understand how a chicken feather could end up in a beef dish.I immediately took the plate to the reception and asked to speak with the manager. The receptionist said the manager was too busy to come. One of the staff first claimed it was a garlic peel; when I insisted, he admitted it was a feather and hurried to take it to the kitchen “to check.”By then, I had lost patience and decided to leave. Before leaving, I observed the front kitchen area — it was extremely unhygienic, full of flies, and reeked of a foul smell.I’ve already lodged a complaint with the Food Safety Officer, providing photos and videos as proof. I just hope some action is taken, though I’m not sure if anything will happen since MRA is reportedly...
Read moreI ran into this outlet on a late Sunday night, what I felt about this particular restaurant is that the space is quiet small compared to other restaurants near by. They could actually work a bit more on the ambience inside. The wash area for sure must be improved upon. Hospitality of the waiters are appreciable. Parking facility could be a lot better, but after all it's a small outlet. Commute is easy and the outlet is visible from a distance. Located in the centre of edapally, you can never leave the outlet unnoticed as the lighting and attractions from the outside is remarkable. Quality and taste of food is good. A reasonable eatery that serves...
