Rahmaniya Kethel's Chicken — Restaurant in Kerala

Rahmania Kethals chicken has the tradition of serving spicy hot chicken for over 60 years from its day of inception. Started its curlinary journey from Trivandrum chaalai market outlet, now has branches at trivandrum, kollam, kochi and calicut. Specialities include spicy hot chicken fry with chappati or ghee rice as combo. To cool down the extreme heat of the chilly masala, they are really kind enough to give unlimited lime juice. Myself, a person who is from alappuzha district who has roots at kollam is one who advocates for spicy food. It is really hard to find that type of spicy food in Kochi. So Kethals has been my one stop shop for spicy chicken. The kaloor outlet had lost its charm in terms of ambience and decor in the recent years, but their food kept the standards. Kochi needs a makeover for Kethals and the owners took it in the right spirit. Now they closed the kaloor outlet and came up with a new outlet near changampuzha park beside metro pillar 452. The interior look elegant and simple. Food is good as always. They have better industrial kitchen. When I went there, it was almost full but their service was really quick. Thanks to new infra they have. The new outlet serves dessert. Saw red velvet cake and chocolate cake. People can now enjoy london diary ice creams after the burning main course. Price goes like 200 rs for chappati chicken set with unlimited lime. Parking is scarce. But whole roadside is reserved for you. Park at your own risk as it is easy to get booked by traffic police. Kethel's chicken is a name in the town for the foodies. Abin, my friend always showers praise over the dish and eventually ended up visiting the restaurant with him. We ordered the dishes in the blink of eye as there was no much options in the menu. By the time the dishes were reached, all the blather about our past was coming out of restaurant. Eating is always fun for foodies and whenever its a new one, there is so much of excitement and may give memorable moments. A worker bought Chicken fry, Ghee rice and gravy to the table and went back without a word or a smile as if he was in a hurry to throw us out. Being restless, Abhimanyu, the other guy poured the gravy into the rice and started eating. The moment he put the rice into his mouth, he spewed the rice. Then we realised it was pickle, that too lemon not the gravy which he had poured into the rice. His expression side-lined the laughter echoed in the restaurant. We then started eating the dishes with newly arrived ‘original’ gravy. Chicken fry is unique of its kind and is a must try for meat eaters. Further the dish is buttressed by unlimited quantity of sweet lime juice which makes the spicy chicken fry delicious. I had dinner here with my family, and honestly, the service was terrible. A non-Keralite guy came to take our order—he looked like he was doing everything from serving to cleaning. He had no patience at all. Whatever we asked, he just repeated the same thing again and again, without really listening.

We already knew the food would be spicy, that’s fine. But when we kept asking for water, they simply ignored us. Either they forgot or just didn’t care. The service was careless and unprofessional.

Then when the bill came, we paid it, but I noticed they added an extra chicken dish we never ordered. When I told the cashier, he started questioning me like I was lying. Really? After a long 8-hour drive, at 11 PM, I had no energy to argue. It was insulting. He did give the money back, but the whole thing showed that they only care about money—not about service or treating people right.

To the cashier: I was too tired to say this that night, but here it is—learn how to talk to people. And if you’re still worried about that small amount, just send me your bank details. I’ll return it.
