I recently. had the pleasure of dining at Suprabhatam Hotel in Kozhikode, and I must say it was an exceptional experience. From the moment I stepped into the restaurant, I was greeted with warm smiles and attentive service, which set the tone for a memorable meal.
First and foremost, the ambiance of Suprabhatam Hotel is inviting and cozy. The restaurant has a modern yet elegant decor, with comfortable seating arrangements and well-lit spaces. The atmosphere is perfect for both intimate dinners and larger gatherings, creating a welcoming environment for diners. Now, let's talk about the food. One standout dish that I highly recommend is the Malabar Parotta with Chicken Curry. The parottas were flaky and layered, perfectly complementing the rich and aromatic chicken curry. This isn't my first visit to 'Suprabatham' and won''t certainly be my last considering the quality of food that is served here. Breakfast is usually the busiest time of the day and I would recommed skipping out on the weekend to avoid the crowds.
You'll notice that they have a separate counter setup for their 'Filter Coffee' and that should convince you that the coffee here is outstanding.
We ordered the usual suspects,
Vada [ 1 set ] - ₹38.10 Butter Mysore Masala Dosa - ₹119.05 Poori Masala Set - ₹76.19 Filter Coffee - ₹19.05
I wouldn't call the Vada exceptional but it tasted good. I prefer mine to be a little crispy on the exterior and the best part is it isn't too oily either. This comes with a side of 3 different chutneys and sambhar and is good value for money.
The 'Butter Mysore Masala Dosa' takes the crown for being an exceptionally good variant of the masala dosa. It is golden crisp, with the masala packing some heat and slightly different from the standard masala. You will find a tiny dollop of butter on top and I must say you can taste that in the dosa too. The sambhar is really good and really brings out the amazing flavours of the dosa. Make sure to order this when you visit because it packs a lot more flavour than the standard Masala Dosa.
The 'Poori Masala Set' might have been a bit too much for me but I really love a good poori. This comes served with coconut chutney and a side of baji and the best way to enjoy this is to combine all of them for a delicious bite. The Baji was a little low on salt but the chutney compensated for the lack of it.
There are no words to describe how good their 'Filter Coffee' is. It is sharp, potent and not too overpowering at the same time. It would be hard pressed to settle for just one cup which is why I decided to get 2. Don't miss out on the coffee when you visit...
Read moreNot the cleanest of all places, but you can't blame me for coming back to try the food cause it is pretty good, kinda. By that i mean, the food isn't all that great, but I love their snacks lol.
Keep in mind that this is a tourist hotspot, so you'll be paying more money for a mediocre experience. There are definitely better spots in Kozhikode with cheaper and better south Indian food.
Food: 3.5/5 some are good, some meh Price: 3/5 a tad overpriced (tourist spot so yeah) Ambience: 2/5 unhygienic by every standard. Poor air conditioning. Service: 3/5 they are understaffed.
Their dosas are pretty good, chutneys are amazing, however they are a little stingy with the serving. Cheese dosa was meh. It doesn't go well together and it's mostly the restaurants fault (no masala or seasoning, just plain cheese). Punjabi samosa was amazing. Veg cutlet was heaven. Almost all of their snacks, combined with filter coffee, is a treat to your senses. But that's where the good things come to an end unfortunately. Hygiene was subpar. I didn't like what i saw, and out of respect for the restaurant, I'll keep that knowledge private. The atmosphere was hot and humid. I guess their air conditioner was just for display purposes cause idk what is was doing. It was definitely not a calm relaxed atmosphere with the constant influx of tourists and old people and the servers rushing everywhere.
To sum it all up, the food here is alright. It does taste good, if not great, but keep in mind that they charge a lot more than what similar places do. So with that in mind, and the lack of hygiene, I wouldn't really recommend this place, unless you're here like me, for their tea/coffee and snacks, which are pretty good.
Parking is hard to find, I parked out on the street which was akin to a surgical operation given the...
