I recently dined at The Calicut Kitchen in Kottayam and had a delightful experience. The restaurant's ambiance is warm and inviting, with a cozy yet modern décor that sets the perfect atmosphere for a relaxed meal.
The highlight of my visit was the Peri Peri Al-Faham Mandi. The chicken was incredibly tender and juicy, marinated to perfection with a robust blend of spices that gave it an authentic peri peri kick. The mandi rice was fragrant and flavorful, complementing the spicy chicken beautifully. The portion size was generous, making it great value for money.
One minor drawback was the mayonnaise that accompanied the dish. It had a slightly sour taste, which was a bit unexpected and didn't quite match the otherwise perfect flavors of the meal. However, this small issue didn't significantly detract from the overall experience.
The service at The Calicut Kitchen was exceptional. The staff was attentive and courteous, ensuring that all our needs were met promptly. The menu offers a diverse range of dishes, making it a great spot for both casual diners and those looking to explore the rich culinary traditions of Kerala.
In conclusion, The Calicut Kitchen is a fantastic dining destination in Kottayam. The Peri Peri Al-Faham Mandi is a must-try, and despite the slight hiccup with the mayonnaise, the overall quality of food and service ensures a memorable dining experience. I highly recommend this restaurant and look forward to returning to try more of their...
Read moreHad a chance today to dine in the vibrant Calicut Kitchen. It was a long cherished dream. The restaurant looks so beautiful from the outside and pretty spacious inside. The ambiance, colour themes and interiors were awesome. I ordered Sweet corn chicken soup for starters. Soup was really sweet to my taste. But had great flavours. I really liked it with adequate amount of pepper added to it. The next on the line was their famous Kabsa chicken biriyani. Presentation was just about Okay'ish. But the long grained rice with succulent juicy chicken had stolen my mind right away. It had all the flavours I needed and I find it really an amazing experience. My friend had ordered Chicken biriyani (*with an egg, guys đ). I find the biriyani just average. I personally am not a fan of the small jeera rice in biriyani. Plating was just like any other restaurant. Chicken should've been a little more moist IMO. Rice was average in flavours I think. Served with raita, pickle and pappad, both of them gave us a fulfilling, heavy for the stomach experience as the quantity was good. I had a refreshing Mint Lime too right after that. It was great after the biriyani. Might go again if I get a chance as I'd like to try more...
Read moreThe ambience of the restaurant is good. The service is fine and ample parking space.
But During noon's or even afternoon's in an AC dinning the place is not as cool and is just on par or warm when packed and mind you there are three aircons all set at the lowest temperature possible at '16°C'.
Secondly the food is good but not mind blowing or great to comment on. There are better options out there. I have ordered their mixed fried rice and fresh lime both are great but the portion served is not filling for an average individual especially for the price charged, had even tried their Kabsa chicken rice and to be honest this ain't even close to what's really a Kabsa chicken and by the name of the restaurant they claim to be from the Calicut but honestly even doubted is this restaurant from Kozhikode because as far as I have tried Kozhikodans and Restaurants of Malapurram are the best when it comes to Kabsa or Arabian food you can get in Kerala, Kochi only comes after these two districts when it comes to food especially...
