We recently visited Tava after hearing good things about it, but unfortunately, our experience was quite disappointing. 😕
1️⃣ Price vs. Quality: The prices were high compared to the quantity and taste of the food. Definitely not worth the cost. 2️⃣ Crowded & Long Wait: This place is extremely crowded, with waiting times of 30-45 minutes. It’s hard to enjoy when it’s that hectic. ⏳ 3️⃣ Not True to North Indian Cuisine: While it claims to offer North Indian cuisine, the flavors didn’t live up to expectations. The chef seemed to be from the South, which could explain the difference in taste. 🌶️ 4️⃣ Rude Customer Service: The owner was rude and showed unnecessary attitude. For example, when we asked about a dish, he curtly responded, “Is it even on the menu?” That’s not how customers should be treated. 😠 5️⃣ Hidden Charges: I liked the aloo paratha, but they charged extra for curd without informing us, which is unusual for North Indian cuisine. It’s small things like this that leave a bad impression. 🥘
⏰ The restaurant’s timings are also inconvenient, as it closes at 4 PM, reopens at 6 PM, and shuts down again around 8 PM.
Overall, it was not a great experience, and I wouldn’t recommend it. If this review helps you, please give...
Read moreDuring our 3-day Kodaikanal trip, when we were craving some North Indian cuisines, we searched on Google, found out about Tava Veg Restaurant and went there to have our dinner.
What We Ordered: Daal Makhni GheeRoti/Ghee Chapati Paneer Masala Veg Fried Rice
Staff Behavior: Really good. The uncle, who attended the tables and the chap, who was running the place, were cool and helpful. Everyone was coordinating with each other to serve the customers at their best capacity, which I liked.
There was a huge queue there when we arrived, but they made sure we get our table when our turn came, pretty fast.
Food, Taste & Pricing: Food was good, freshly made and served hot!
Being from Bengal where we have Dhaba food from Sher-e-Punjab, the taste was good. Compared to the quantity, for some items, the prices may seem a bit on the higher side. (But isn't everything pricey at tourist places?)
Do I suggest this place? Yes, I do, if you are tired of tasting South Indian dishes and visiting the over-priced cafes there, then Tava Veg Restaurant is where you need to head to!
When touring South India, especially a Dosa-Idly-Biriyani-focused tourist place like Kodaikanal, this place can be a real charm to taste some North...
Read moreIf you are an onion lover … I mean really LOVE it, Tava is the place to come. They typically have the 80/20 rule for foods… 80% onion and 20% for the rest of the ingredients. I had the fortune to try their mushroom masala dry … more appropriately onion masala dry with a hint of mushrooms, you don’t want to overpower the onion flavor. They also offered a side salad consisting of raw onions and a spoiled half lemon. I was tasting nothing but onions for the rest of the night with an unhappy stomach.
Paying 220 rupees for a bowl full of onions … I think it must be imported. The tiny packet chapatis they served were also so sad.
The picture was of all the onions leftover after eating a decent amount with mushrooms.
This place is a great joint if you are here on vacation and never come back. One and done
This place is a scam. I wonder how they got such reviews.
Update: woke up this morning with my helmet scarf and hoodie smelling like it was marinated in onions.
I think my body has reached peak maximum onion saturation based on my...
