Hatari is one of my favourite restaurants. Hatari is pretty famous for it's Chinese cuisine, but they also serve some of the best Indian dishes which tastes amazing. Now coming to the food, ambience and service:

Food- So we decided to try some Indian dishes along with the Chinese. The quantity of food they serve, is enough for two people. They also maintain great quality. We had-

~Starters:

• Chilly Pork Dry- Pork is one of my favourite meat. I love to have pork, so how can I miss a chance of having Chilly pork. There was shredded pisces of pork, the meat was tender and juicy.

• Tangy Crispy Chicken- This one made me lick my spoon just like a cat does. Crispy chicken tossed in a tangy sauce and served. This one is highly recommended.

• Schezwan Double Cooked Lamb- The taste was no doubt great, but people who don't like hot and spicy dishes, should not go for it. In this preparation, lamb was tossed with schezwan sauce, which made it too hot and spicy. This one was one of my personal favourite.

• Fish Irani Kebab- Thought of trying this one from the Indian menu. Being a bong, we love to have fish, and what else would have been better than the fusion of fish and kebab, in the form of Fish Irani Kebab.

~Main Course:

• Special Mutton Biryani- Again, being a Bong we cannot ignore Kolkata biryani right! Also this time I thought of having something from the Indian menu. Now whenever we talk about Indian dishes, the only thing that comes first in my mind is Biryani. We ordered special mutton biryani, which contains two pieces of mutton and an aloo. The taste of the biryani was no doubt great and the mutton pieces were also soft. The only way to judge a biryani is by having the aloo, if the aloo is perfectly cooked, then the biryani must be great.

• Chicken Bharta- I was in a doubt, which one shall I try with biryani, then one of the staff suggested me to try chicken bharta with it. To be honest, if you take biryani, you should also try this combo out.

• Nasi Goreng- Nasi Goreng is a kind of fried rice only, with pieces of meat(chicken, pork, lamb) and vegetables add to it. It is basically an Indonesian rice dish. You must try nasi goreng with a Chinese side dish.

• Fakusa Zuisi- This is a preparation of suit and sour mixed fried rice, which is wrapped in omelette and served. The presentation was really beautiful.

• Singapore Rice Noodles- This dish was somewhere near to Meifoon. Rice and noodles were combined, along with veggies and chicken.

• Pork in Oyster Sauce- I love the preparation of any meat in oyster sauce. There were shredded pieces of pork, tossed in oyster sauce.

• Mongolian Prawn Dry- This one was dry, you cannot have this as a side dish. This you can give a try if you love prawns.

• Hot Garlic Chicken- You all have tried this dish previously and you know how it tastes. But I can guarantee you that you have never had a hot garlic chicken like they serve, before.

• Sliced Fish in Chilli Oyster- Huge pieces of fish, tossed in oyster sauce and served. The pieces were soft and juicy, and they tasted really amazing.

~Dessert

• Hot Brownie with Ice Cream- Today, almost 80% of the restaurants serve this dish, but maximum of them have some defaults. This one was just perfect. The brownie was neither too soft, nor too hard. This is also highly recommended.

My overall food experience was great. Hatari never fails to overcome our expectations. Rating: 5/5

Ambience- The place was huge, cool, calm and comfortable. They can easily accommodate around fourty to fifty people. Rating- 4/5

Service- Their hospitality was great. All of them were so well behaved, they were very helpful and humble. They will help you whenever you will be having confusion regarding which one to choose. Rating- 5/5

My overall experience was again great. After visiting restaurants like Hatari, my expectations gets...

Extremely Disappointed with Hatari, Behala – Never Visiting Again!

I had dinner at Hatari (Behala, James Long Sarani) last night on 4th August 2025 at 10 PM with three others — a total of four people — and I must say, this was one of the worst dining experiences I’ve had in a long time.

We started with starters — Paneer Chengdu and Fish Finger. The menu didn’t have paneer chengdu listed (only chicken chengdu), but after requesting, the staff agreed to prepare a paneer version and said they would charge the same as chilli paneer. That seemed fine… until the dish arrived.

Paneer Chengdu was an absolute disaster. Honestly, it was not just bad — it was downright disgusting. It seemed like the chef poured an entire bottle of vinegar and mixed it with raw chilli paste, without any sense of balance or taste. It was inedible and tasted like a chemical experiment gone wrong. We instantly returned the dish. And when we returned it, the waiter casually asked, “What should I do with it?” — showing zero professionalism. We told him to have the chef taste it and do whatever he wants with it — and also mentioned they could still add it to the bill if needed.

For fairness, I’ll admit the Fish Finger was decent — the only redeeming item in the starters.

But things went further downhill with the main course. We ordered: • Veg Noodles • Veg Fried Rice • Chilli Paneer (Gravy) • Dry Chilli Chicken • Thai Chicken

Among all these, only the noodles and dry chilli chicken were passable and tasted as expected.

The rest? • Chilli Paneer (Gravy) was an embarrassment — it felt like eating a bowl of maida gravy. Absolutely bland and tasteless. • Veg Fried Rice was undercooked — a basic dish and they couldn’t even get that right. • Thai Chicken was a joke — it tasted like someone dumped it in liquid sugar syrup. Completely off balance with zero authenticity.

This is not my first visit to Hatari — I’ve been coming here for years. It used to be a reliable place for Chinese food in Kolkata. But this visit, along with my previous disappointing experience, has made it clear: something is seriously wrong with this outlet.

To make matters worse, despite returning the horrific paneer chengdu dish (with 80% of it untouched), they still had the audacity to charge us for it — no apologies, no courtesy, no acknowledgment of their failure.

It’s truly disheartening to see a once-good restaurant decline like this. They are now charging prices like a 5-star restaurant but serving third-class food that doesn’t even meet street food standards. And the service attitude has also gone downhill.

Verdict:

Avoid this place. Don’t waste your money, time, or tastebuds here. This was my last visit to Hatari, Behala. They’ve lost a loyal customer —...

Here I am once again with my Review this time about a very old, dependable, cozy, reasonable pricing restaurant Hatari. I think every food love already visited this place once so i don't want to make this review extra long i will post photos also. The ambience, behaviour bof staffs of this place really made me feel good and warm. This time i have ordered very few items and that too very common items like Chicken Tikka, Chicken Kadai and Chicken biriyani. I will visit hatari again and taste other cuisines also. Very soon. Let me talk about the taste and quantity and quality about the food i eat. Chicken tikka i think 6 pc and absolutely delicious very juicy and smoky flavour was there i loved it thoroughly. And very soft as well. Chicken Kadai once again a boneless item and this tastes so good, very well cooked, spices really mix inside with the chicken and pieces are adequate enough. Chicken biriyani is also very good and pure Kolkata style biriyani, if you love kolkata biriyani then this place should be in your list and that too in top. They gave One big Aloo and one Boiled egg also with biriyani. Rice was good, lil bit oily as kolkata biriyani is, and the chicken i got almost 130 gm pc and tastes good and very soft tender, Dont need to chew much and the smell of raw chicken also not there so its very good. Its a must visit place i love everything about this place but i gave 4 stars, why? Because there is always room for improvement and another thing i would really like to see, waiters should help in making the order by saying what are the special or exclusive items of this restaurant, people like me really get confused after seeing such a large menu and yesterday i didn't want to order biriyani but didn't find anything as i dont want to eat Chinese. So if possible please do this. Thank you for reading this if you like my reviews then please show some love by giving thumbs to my writings and photos. Hopefully i will come soon with another restaurant review till then stay fit stay healthy and...

We went to Hatari yesterday for a meal and the restaurant at that time was quite empty with two more tables occupied. I had been there before and expected a basic standard of meal from them. We ordered Drums of Heaven and a Mixed gravy noodles and I found a small dark hair on my plate. The meal was almost at its end. The waiter took the plate to the till and everyone looked at us for a while(girls with long hairs) and then went quite. The waiter came back and offered us to give a portion of mixed gravy noodles to take at home. We refused. I am leaving Kolkata today and I am no use for another meal. Then came the bill. The full bill. We never received one single apology, as well for the mistake. The excuse was, "We offered you another plate and now the bill has been generated!". So basically they realised what they have done, did not say sorry, did not even bother to give a reduced bill and thought it is okay to go ahead and generate a full bill. Also, I was told, "Mistakes can happen from everyone, it can happen from you or from us. Next time you come, we can do something for you". This is the restaurant that I have probably visited 20-25 times in my life. I am not going to visit again. I am leaving this review as a reminder to everyone the state of poor hygiene and the lack of training of the staff. We did not create any tantrum or get into any argument. Just paid the bill and left. I do not know who the owners are but I would advice you to train your staff.

Went to the Behala branch of Hatari today (a Sunday). The place was almost full when we reached. However we got our seat almost immediately. The safety measures maintained by the restaurant is commendable. The tables were properly santized and the offered the cutlery in a glass of hot water to disinfect them. We ordered the following things at Hatari, Behala: - Mahi La Jawab - Golden Crispy Fried Prawns - Masala Kulcha - Chicken Tawa Masala Mahi La Jawab is a basically a fish kebab. But it was nothing like regular fish kebabs. The flavour, the texture and the portion - everything was amazing. They served it with salad and green chutney. The golden crispy fried prawn was also appetizing. The coating of the batter was really crunchy. They served it with ketchup. It was good. The masala kulcha was stuffed very nicely. It was the thickest kulcha I have had till date. Also, it was soft and tasted amazing. The chicken tawa masala was also something that we enjoyed. The masala was well-seasoned, and the amount was more than enough for two. The people who served us at the restaurant were really courteous and helpful. Anthony, who was waiting our table, was also making sure that we enjoyed our food. Overall, a great experience at Hatari, Behala. Do pay a visit to the restaurant if you are in Behala.
