'Sangu Valley' is a very traditional, famous and popular place at Bhawanipur area. It is one of the finest cabin of Kolkata, running over more than 80 years. It is a perfect and pocket friendly place for small or medium gang of people, students to hangout with their friends as well as spend quality time with your beloved one. Few days back I had visited this place. It is located at Bhawanipur just beside Purna Cinama hall, near the petrol pump and just few minutes walking distance from Bhawanipur Police station. • Ambience of this place is very nice with beautiful decorations and also have old cabin style sitting arrangement. • This cabin is spacious and they have seating arrangement of more or less 60 people at once. • I had tried their Mutton Afgani along with paratha and Chicken Cutlet. • 'Mutton Afgani' :- By looking the recommended items in review at verious places, I had tried Mutton Afgani. And the taste was just Fabulous. It had a large size mutton cutlet which tossed in spicy gravy with lots of vegetables. Cutlet was made by shredded mutton keema. And the gurnishing of the Plate was so good. Overall It was too much drooling and flavourful. Must try this. • 'Paratha' : Along with Mutton Afgani I had tried Paratha. Their paratha was totally different from other restuarant. Paratha was totally fried in deep oil and large in size. It was so so soft and so tasty. Along with Afgani it was a perfect match. • 'Chicken Cutlet' : As it is a famous cabin so I had also tried their Chicken Cutlet. The taste of Chicken Cutlet was awesome. It served with different things. Along with cutlet they served Mustard Sause and Papad . Mustard sauce was quite common with cutlet or fry but Papad with cutlet was different combination and it was not bad. It was good to have with cutlet. • Quantity and quality of each item was enough and upto the mark. Service is so fast and staffs are courteous and helped us to choose the right item. Clean and m well maintained till now. Prices are appropriate according to the quality and quantity of food. • I had a great experience here. This place is truly good. Do visit there to have a lovely time with great food at pocket...

After passing by Sanguvalley Restaurant countless times, I finally decided to step in — and I'm glad I did. This age-old gem might not boast flashy décor or air conditioning, but it certainly knows how to serve up good old Indo-Chinese comfort food with a nostalgic flair.
The seating is simple and no-frills — around 8 tables in the main dining area with pedestal fans fighting the Kolkata heat like seasoned warriors. There's also an inner section, currently used for storage and parcel dispatch, maintaining the classic old-school vibe. If you enjoy the rustic charm of Kolkata's traditional eateries, this place ticks the box.
What I Tried:
Mixed Chowmein – Classic, tasty, and exactly how Kolkata used to do it back in the day. Perfectly cooked with a balanced mix of meats and veggies. No complaints here!
Chilli Pork (Gravy) – This dish was full of surprises — the pork came in cube-sized cuts (unlike anything I’ve had before) and the gravy was... let’s say, forgettable. I expected fireworks, but got a sparkler.
Takeaway: Mixed Fried Rice + Chilli Fish – Fried rice was flavorful, well tossed, and satisfying. However, the Chilli Fish was a miss. Strong smell and an unusually thick coating made it hard to love. Skip this one.
What’s Next on My Radar:
Chicken Afghani
Mughlai Porota
Chilli Chicken with Porota
And maybe give their Chilli Pork (Dry) a chance next time!
Final Thoughts:
Sanguvalley is one of those time-travel restaurants — it takes you back to the good old days with its food and setting. It may not win awards for décor, but for those who appreciate traditional flavors and no-nonsense food, it’s worth a visit. Just choose your dishes wisely — they have some real hits and a few misses.
Overall Experience: Good food, nostalgic ambiance and a peek into Kolkata’s culinary...
Read moreWe went for a evening snacks, the menu is quite versatile, Chinese as well as Indian cuisine is served there. We ordered 1chicken and 1mutton afgani, which is a speciality there, it is a chicken cutlet rapped with an egg coating (very similar to kobiraji) with a sweet and tangy vegetable sause, which contains boiled potatos, peas, carrots, topped with raisins and sliced cherry 🍒, which was adding an extra kick to the overall dish...a good wine-y punch, definitely recommended. Nxt we ordered fish kobiraji which was served with a piece of papad along with kasundi and salad, though I personally feel it was nothing very special...like I did tasted many kobirajis before frm other well known places but it wasn't one to especially stand-out, yet it tasted decent but a little too oily, especially when paired with a fried papad...u might feel like a rush of oil inside ur mouth, which isn't very wanted at all🥴☹️. But otherwise a good place to visit with frnds and family. And nothing to talk bout the ambience, it was like a cabin style restaurant (especially seen in North Kolkata) but apart frm cabins there are open sitting...
