The Lighter Side - Best Cafe in South Kolkata — Restaurant in Kolkata

The Lighter Side Cafe, located near Lake Mall, is a small, cozy, and super cute spot with really pretty décor – perfect for catching up with friends or just unwinding over good food. The ambience immediately makes you feel comfortable and relaxed.

We tried a few dishes, and here’s how it went:

Fish Fry (Bhetki) – Decent but could have been better. The flavor was fine, but it didn’t quite stand out compared to some other places in Kolkata.

Bacon-Wrapped Prawns – The absolute showstopper! Bursting with flavor, juicy, and perfectly cooked. A must-try here.

Spaghetti Aglio Olio with Chicken – Decent, but could have been better. Since this is one of my favorites, I’ve had it in many places where it was more flavorful.

Strawberry Mojito – Refreshing and delightful, just the right balance.

Overall, the food was really good, especially the bacon-wrapped prawns which I’d go back for again. The only downsides are that the fish fry and spaghetti could use some improvement, and the pricing is slightly on the higher side.

Visited The Lighter Side to grab coffee and a sandwich. We requested them to make a simple chicken sandwich which they served with a side of French fries and mayonnaise. The cappuccino coffee was also quite good. Will definitely be going back to try out more of their dishes. The cafe is small but cosy with low height tables and seats. There is also space to sit upstairs which is like a mini make-shift floor. Be careful for the ceiling is low. The service was good and it was surprisingly empty on a Sunday late evening. A newly opened cafe in the Lake Market area, but it still stands out among the myriad cafes here....in that it has a very welcoming atmosphere. The staff greet you and make you feel comfortable. You can just sit back and enjoy your coffee. The cappuccino I ordered was good. Together with that I ordered a brownie and that too was delicious and chocolatey...it was moist and tasty. Sometimes the brownie is hard, dry and dense but this was not the case here. They have a good food menu too,and I will surely go back...
