The Chimath is a hidden gem of Ladakh. Located on the second floor of the Mengon Shopping Arcade in the heart of the Leh Main Market, next to the Jumma Masjid, it requires more prominent signage. The interiors are warm, cosy and colourful in line with Tibetan restaurants. The Dalai Lama smiles from one wall and a large poster of the Potala graces another wall. The low, cushioned, comfortable platforms ranged around wooden, Tibetan-design tables lend a very Ladakhi air to the restaurant. The service is discreet and polite. The purely Tibetan menu has eclectic Tibetan dishes rarely found elsewhere - for instance long thenthuk and fried thenthuk. I ordered a vegetable mokthuk and a fried vegetable chutagi. The food was beyond my expectations. Absolutely delicious, the Chimath certainly has a very skilled chef, it's almost gourmet. The fried chutagi had grilled cottage cheese, mushroom slices, potatoes, pakchoy, all in an amazing, mind-blowing sauce. The mokthuk, my first ever, had dumplings stuffed with cheese, spinach and pakchoy in a moderately spicy soup(as requested). It was an absolute dream. You can also request the soup in a genuinely Tibetan style. The Chimath is a place that feels like home the moment you enter it, and the memories linger long after your holiday is done. Luckily, the Chimath has a loyal local clientele which sees them through the winter. It's a place that definitely deserves...

If your tastebuds crave for authentic Tibetan food and cuisines, this is the right place and the best place. Small cosy sitting and delicate flavours of food can be noticed. You need to be patient as they take time to cook amazing food. The cuttings are very fine, fresh ingredients are used and the flavours are just right.

I enjoyed their soupy thenthuk and Skyu. Worth the wait and money.

Edit: The rating is high only for their food. Seems recently their management has changed and they atleast didn't bother to seat me. I walked in after a year to relish some good food but, Unfortunately i had to walk out due to their bad queue management and careless attitude to customer. I was made to wait for 40mins which is fine since I chose to wait, but people who queued later were admitted earlier and when i was offered a seat, they admitted 6more for the same table and i was asked to walk out and the boy managing least cared about it. I might go there again for food with 0 expectations on...

We visited this place in April the place is very cozy and the interior is cute as well we ordered: ( you have to wait for 20-25min for the food to be prepared and it is worth the wait✨)

🌟Chicken thukpa: The flavour of the thukpa was so tasty loved the perfectly cooked chicken and veggies it was a great combination of all a must try 😋

Chicken steam momos and pan fried momos: (they call is mokmok): The momos were so delicious loved the stuffing and the chutney dip was given that was tasty too loved it 😋

Chicken chowmein: The chowmein was tossed with great flavours loved the taste of that even the chicken and veggies were delicious in it.

Overall it was a great experience having food here a must visit when...

This place was recommended to us by a German couple we met in Dharamshala. It offers good dining experience with its authentic Ladakhi cuisine and a warm and cozy ambiance. A standout dish for us was the Veg Fried Chutagi, which is a hand-rolled dough dumplings with vegetables and Ladakhi spices. The menu also includes other Ladakhi specialties like Thukpa, Khambir (Ladakhi Bread), Skyu, and Butter Tea. With friendly and attentive service, it was truly a memorable experience. During our 5-day stay in Leh, we visited this restaurant three times, a testament to its exceptional quality and flavors.
