It was kind of an okay experience, not that you won't get it anywhere else but here. We dined here for lunch, we ordered "meals", mutton biryani and a few sides. The mutton biryani was quite spicy but good, and had some decent chunks of well cooked meat in it. It's served with onion raitha and mutton gravy, I was expecting "dalcha" though. The meals were a bit disappointing, although the mutton, fish and chicken gravy tasted good they all lacked any meat pieces in them even for namesake. They just served cooked peas as side dishes and when asked about anything else they said they're over, something they should inform the clients before they order meals. They served a potato dish later but that didn't justify the name "non veg meals". We ordered Crab omelette - it was very good, some decent crab meat in the omelette and moderately spiced, even kids can eat. Kola meat ball was fantastic, deep fried mined meat with spices, tasted as it should. Roast prawns were good but the portion size was disappointing for the price charged, serves only one person. "Amma mess special chicken" was deep fried chicken in thick gravy, tasted okay quite spicy and nothing different from any other chicken in gravy. We dined there around 3:30 PM and most of the items in the menu were not available, recommend to go earlier. Not many desserts are available on the menu. Overall the food was fine, but found it a bit on the pricier range. You pay more for the hype around the brand. Parking available but might have to wait during busier hours.

AMMA MESS is one of the oldest and very famous Non-Veg restaurant in Madurai. When I was a kid, my father invited me to this hotel. He usually visit Madurai for grocery purchase (wholesale order for grocery shop), and for lunch he usually went for this hotel. Few years back, they opened a new branch near Madurai Court (just opposite to MIOT Madurai hospital). Very limited parking space available, parking is a big challenge here. Today we tried biriyani, rice, mutton chukka, Ayirai fish curry. Everything was good except price of Ayirai fish curry. Personally I feel, 230+ is too much for this Ayirai fish curry - taste is good but not a special. Very good dining experience, interior and ambience is good. I request the management NOT TO ENTERTAIN your servers / cleaners TO ASK money to the customers. Biriyani - Superb - Very good taste Mutton Chukka (200 rs) - Very good, Overpriced. Veg/Non-Veg meals (120 rs) - Average Egg Omlete - 30 rs - Overpriced Ayirai Fish Curry - 230+rs - Overpriced & Average taste. Parking - Very limited

Had food from this restaurant on our way back from Rameswaram. The food was good, but the quantity was very small. We had Chicken Biryani and Rabbit Roast. The Chicken Biryani cost ₹275 but had only one piece of chicken. The quantity of rice was also similar to a single biryani. The Rabbit Roast had just four small pieces of rabbit. Considering the pricing, the portion size was not worth it. Customer service was also disappointing. I initially wanted to order meals with fish items, but the staff member who took our order said there would be a delay in serving rice as it was still being cooked and would take more than 20 minutes. Biryani was served at our table within 2–3 minutes. At the same time, we noticed another waiter serving meals to a customer at the next table, who had ordered around the same time as us. When we asked the waiter to take back the biryani and give us meals instead, they refused. To make things worse, he asked for a tip during payment. Overall, while the food was good, the experience was horrible.

Wish I could rate even lesser. Pathetic service. Didn't mind waiting time for the table. But once we did get the table, no one cared. Had to bring the waiter myself to get our order. We ordered a meal and a chicken Biryani and fish varuval. Taste was over rated. Would have rated other local biryanis in the town far better than this Mediocre Biryani at best. We had to ask the server/waiter for sides for the meals since they did not even bother to bring any. And when only one side was served we asked if there was anything else and they say that's all you get in this meal. The cleaning lady even before we were done, came and asked for tips. I said I will take care once we are done. Unfortunately, I did not have any spare change with me and respectfully told her next time and the attitude that she gave, also mumbled something, we ignored as we were there with our 2.5 year old child. Bill amount was 1124. In the end, when the bill came in, the waiter shamelessly again asks to add tips, he casually says you can add 10%, 15%, 20% and so on in the card machine when half the time I was the one getting up to ask these buggers to serve. I am from Madurai and these franchises only spoil the name of this city with beautiful people. I hope the owner does read this and pays some heed to get...
