This known person was talking so much about this place, and I finally decided to give it a try, it's always good to give the benefit of the doubt to any place you are trying out for the first time.
I love biryanis and I am still in search of this one place which will knock me off my feet when it comes to a biryani, till then the search and trials are on.
Anyway, all said and done, though I was skeptical about ordering, I decided that let's try something basic, now when I say basic, we all know that nothing can go wrong with basic, that's why it's called basic, so I dial the number and the person who answered couldn't get the address right, and asked for my order, I could hear him say in the background in hindi "that it's very busy".
My understanding is that any restaurant or an eatery has to be prepared for the busiest hours of operations and you can't afford to panic, that's where your management skills come into action, nevertheless, I order a chicken tawa pulav bearing in mind that even though he couldn't get the address correct, this should be fine.
I waited till 10:30pm thinking that even if the order doesn't arrive it will be fine, and my door bell rings with the delivery guy and my order from Al's. I was like wow!!!!!.
I open the parcel and was excited to see a small portion or raita, onion & lime a pappad, and a sachet of pickle, now this made me feel that nothing can go wrong from here.
I begin my chicken tawa pulav journey, plain yellow color rosewater flavored rice, with some onions, capsicum, balista (caramelized onions usually used for biryanis) and a few chunks of boneless chicken, that's it.
I was hugely disappointed, thinking this is not a tawa pulav, I don't understand that if one doesn't know the particulars of a tawa pulav why even keep it as a part of the menu, the names suggested has to justify what you serve, believe me when I say that if the raita, pappad and the onions weren't included, I would have definitely choked on it coz it was absolutely dry.
Overall disappointed, but then I also realized that the common man has no clue about what food, taste and presentation is all about and that's where eateries like this become a success, coz they know that people won't complain coz they don't know.
The moral of the story is with so many restaurants and eateries in competition, one must know how to surprise the taste...

Read moreI recently visited ALS Kitchen, Orlem Malad West, and I must say it turned out to be one of the best pocket-friendly restaurants I’ve tried in this area. The food, flavors, and overall experience were truly satisfying, especially for the price point.
We ordered three dishes – Rawas Koliwada, Surmai Tawa Fry, and Chicken Tikka Biryani – and each one was a delight in its own way. The Rawas Koliwada was fresh, crispy on the outside, yet soft and juicy inside, with that authentic koli-style marination that gives a perfect kick of spice. The Surmai Tawa Fry was another highlight – perfectly seared, well-spiced, and cooked just right to retain the fish’s natural flavors. For seafood lovers, both of these are absolute must-tries.
Coming to the Chicken Tikka Biryani, it was flavorful, aromatic, and comforting. The chicken pieces were tender, well-marinated, and cooked to perfection. The biryani had just the right balance of spices, making it tasty without being too heavy or oily – something that’s hard to find these days.
The service was quick, the staff was polite, and the ambiance felt simple yet welcoming. For the quality and taste offered, the pricing is very reasonable, making it a great option for both casual outings and regular visits.
Overall, I would rate ALS Kitchen a 4/5. If you’re in Malad West and looking for delicious seafood or a wholesome biryani at pocket-friendly prices, this place should definitely be...
