Special occasions call in for special places! And we decided to bring in my bday at Asilo at The St Regis Hotel, next to Palladium Mall. Located at Level 38, this Rooftop Bar offers breathtaking views of the city. From one side one can see the sea-link to the race course to the skyline of Mumbai. Place has a combination of high tables and some sofa seating. They also have a private section which is perfect for a party or a romantic dinner with your partner.
Talking about what all we ordered at Asilo -
Started with a drink, asked the bar tender to serve Pink Velvet. This is under their signature cocktail section, but we asked for it minus the tequila. A mix of pomegranate, strawberry and mint leaves. Beautiful looking drink, neatly presented and very refreshing. Next we ordered for a Flatbread - Margherita with Charred Cherry Tomatoes and Fresh Basil Leaves with bocconcini mozzarella. Loved the Flatbread, prepared well. Must try here at Asilo for vegetarian. We were compelled to order another of those but also wanted to try other dishes.
Moving on, we called for the Grill - Chilli Roasted Potatoes. Served on small skewers, potato wedges topped with honey chilli sauce and cream. Decent in taste. Next we called for Risotto and Cheese Arancini stuffed with Tomato Jam and Basil Pesto. Felt some dip along with the Arancini balls was missing. Felt a little too dry to have it alone. May be some work is needed in this dish.
Finally for desserts we called for Chocolate Volcano served with Vanilla Ice-cream. Killer combination, tasted amazing. Must try and perfect way to end our meal. Asilo gave us an experience to remember especially the view from the top! Something to be remembered...
Read moreAsilo , not such a great rooftop
Asilo has this image of being luxurious rooftop but it’s absolutely hyped and very very ok. There are way better options in mumbai. Starting with the reservations, there is not a direct link . You have to call thrice and there is no network over there . The manager says it’s reserved but then again say it’s waiting, etc.
Then next let’s get to the place . Earlier that’s two years back they had dream catchers, cute cushions and all. Now it’s so sad with railings all over and dead ambience and you can’t even see much of the city as smog.
The food when it’s vegetarian is PATHETIC and over priced . The potato grilled so bad. Next up , the udon noodles looked fab and tasted drab.
The desserts with chocolate flour and passion fruit was a disaster.
The staff was not even present . Only one person doing it all.
There was no water , forks or even basic plates served until we asked amidst the meal.
The music was a pain in the ears and was very off and everyone has the same to say
This should be an absolute no.
Earlier review - 4 years back - The gateway to Mexico 💕 at ASILO is gorgeously decorated with huge colorful dream catchers . Flowers and colorful cloth spreads over the table and crazy Mexicano menu will give you a drool . The Quinoas are so healthy and wholesome. I loved the ravioli twist with a tomato based sauté . The ambience is adorable along with the view from the 38th floor at the St Regis . The Mexicano magic is there till 27th May ! #mondaysbelikethis #view #pleasantevening #dinners...
Read moreAsilo, a plush rooftop lounge, sits on top of the St. Regis hotel. That’s what they say. In reality, far from “plush”. Allow me to explain why.
We had booked a table for two on Valentine’s Day – which also happens to be our Anniversary. At the time of booking, we were not specifically told that the slot would only be for two hours. We were already running late by an hour and we had called up the restaurant to confirm our booking so that our table is not given to someone else – which is exactly what happened when we finally reached.
Let’s focus on the “2 hours”. Are you seriously kidding me? Who spends just two hours on a Valentine Date night. Actually, any date night or any dinner session for that matter. No other restaurant have we ever come across has a time limit.
Now, not to act like the wolf with the sour grapes, but seriously we were glad we just left without further trying to talk to the unprofessional staff. The pictures online are not to be taken seriously – in reality, Asilo is a crammed-up place. It is a shabby crown of disgrace, which just happens to sit on the rooftop of the St. Regis Hotel – that’s it. It’s just another dingy restaurant which deserves no more attention than a cheap bar.
We’ve had better experiences with rooftop restaurants in the city. And we eventually headed for a wonderful fine dining experience at Trident. The only regret? Wasting those hours travelling...
