I have a liking for Malwani food due to its unique & peculiar flavours, & especially due to taste of coconut which is generally very prominent in Malwani recipes.

Ordered Mutton Fry & Suko Kolambi from Hotel Malwan Katta. My experience with their food is narrated below :-

Mutton Fry : Don't get carried away by the name of the dish. The preparation is very different from what it sounds. It was a thick gravy which was oily. Immensely flavourful though. The taste of coconut in the gravy was evident. Mutton was tender, however, the mutton pieces used could have been better. The dish was delicious.

Suki Kolambi : "Kolambi" means Prawns. This dish too was prepared in a thick gravy. It was spicy & very oily. Prawns used were of small size. Flavour of coconut was indeed evident. The dish was average in taste.

Overall, the food was nice & flavourful. Would love to try it again.

Hope the review...

Good food. I have recently converted to a vegetarian and had ordered veg this place is good for children and fish but overall as per my past fish and chicken experience, knowledge/ experience of properly cooked food, it's aroma and those typical malvani masala fragrance make it loud and clear how good food is. Looking at fish and brought water in my mouth felt like reverting back to non-vegetarian 😂. Being myself Konkani aplya pattaya chi chav ahe rao te kutle lele garam masala 😋 ani khobrya cha vatanat murleli ti macchi ani chicken and strong taste 🤤. Regarding my veg order it was also good baas aur kya hi bolu I know public vegitarian ko kaisi gali bakte hai 😂 thankyou for reading. Service is slow so better plan fatafat about your next order so you don't have to wait. ₹₹₹

Yesterday, due to Ganesh Visarjan..the roads in Mumbai were empty ..empty means no bumper to bumper traffic..hence we made an impromptu plan to drive down to Goregaon..we use to live in this western suburb of Mumbai years ago..this entire western stretch including Versova ,Madh etc are full of tiny Malvan Katta eateries where they serve authentic Malvani food and fresh fish ..One of these is Malvan Katta just at the junction of Goregaon East a few mins drive from Oberoi Mall..use to be our to go place then ..so we brought our son here today for lunch..The food like always simple, fresh and delicious..tiny restaurant but very clean ..and super pocket friendly..a few pics for all of you..We had Surmai fry ,Bombil fry/ Bombay duck ,Bangda fry/ mackerel / prawns fry .the son had chicken masala with vadi and solkadi ..I gulped down a...

The place can be described as a no-frills restaurant. It gives you an old world 80s-90s Udipi vibe with sunmica coated chairs and tables. The restaurant is very small so seating may be a problem for a large group, be prepared to spilt if so. The Prawn thali was priced at 340/- with taxes which I found a bit exorbitant for the set-up I was in, but it definitely delivered on flavour and quantity. In fact if you’re not very hungry and are a moderate eater, the thali could be split between two. The deep fried prawns were crisp, which complemented the thick prawn gravy and the thinner fish curry. The vadas, which I asked for instead of the chapatis were on point. Overall, a good experience with no frills but a bit more for the ambience, than what you may want to pay.
