I visited the Jaihind restaurant on Hill Road today, March 10, 2020 at around 8:30 pm or so. I asked the waiter if the Bombay duck thali was available to which he said a very confident NO. The other waiter also said no it's not available and started mumbling something away to glory. I said, ok, then get me a surmai thali. After about 10 to 15 minutes I saw one of the waiters serving fried Bombay ducks to two ladies who walked in after me, and it was also served to two young girls who also walked into the restaurant after I did. I was shocked and called the waiter and questioned him as to why did he say 'no' to me. Then he kept saying the fish just arrived since they ran out of it (what, did it fall from the sky in 10 mins all of a sudden?) That's what I asked him. Then one of the managers came up to me and said sorry, only both managers know that Bombay ducks are available and the guy who took my order didn't know (ok, no proper communication ) This really confused me and then he kept saying the fish just arrived as they ran out of it. I mean who delivers raw fish at 8:00pm in the night? Dont know whether the waiter was acting dum, or whether he was just plain racist cause it seemed that certain people who spoke the language and certain people who looked probably rich or looked a certain way, or were regulars were served what they wanted. Toooo bad, cause i never want to visit your sad restaurant with really horrible staff ever again, and neither do I want to recommend your restaurant to anybody. There are a lot of genuinly good fish restaurants out there who respect people. I will definately go elsewhere. I visited your dam restaurant especially to have the Bombay duck thali because it's my favourite. It's not that I came with the intention to get something free, no, I too paid the same amount of money everybody else paid. I have visited your restaurant many a times, but this incident shocked me to the core. One customer lost but I guess it doesn't matter to you'll anyway. I generally ovelook flaws cause all of us are flawed in someway or the other, but this incident just...

I still remember hopping on this place during my college days when we friends used to visit mount Mary and honestly I wasn’t a die hard fan of Malwani cuisine back then so we usually used to order starters, solkadhi. Visited this place almost after 5 years with pure intention of trying out only seafood served over here as jaihind is very known for its fish thali and malwani cuisines. Weekends are Extremely crowded but the staff is pretty quick so don’t worry about the waiting saga. Neat and clean restaurant, very hygienic and courteous staff. Parking definitely is an issue so better to come by cab. What we tried: 🔴 Prawn sukka thali - Fresh medium sized prawns cooked to perfection with fresh cocconut based masala extremely delicious and highly recommended 👍 🔴Surmai fry thali - fried big slice of surmai which could have been a bit more spicy and crispy but fish was very fresh. 🔴Prawn stuffed Bombil starter - Star of the entire show👍 Small prawn prepared in mild masalas stuffed inside bombil and rolled into tubes, coated in rawa and some spices and deep fried until nice and crisp. It’s amazing. We repeated our order for this particular dish. It’s that good👍 🔴Neer dosa - Extremly thin, soft piping hot and divine. 🔴Solkadhi - Though I find it a bit tangy then usual but was very refreshing.

All thalis mentioned above was served along with a bowl of dry prawns sabji, solkadhi, fish gravy, a portion of steam rice, onion and spicy rice papad. You have option of ordering your thali either with chapati or bhakri and if you want to replace it with beer dosa then you have to additionally pay 30₹ per plate. Overall we had a great experience and definitely going to visit again to try out their other...

JaiHind Lunch Home sited at Hill Road near the Bandra Police station, walkable distance from Bandra Station (approx 8-10 mins)

The lunch home has been given a fine dine feel, air conditioned restaurant with dual seating, no fancy ambience simple very subtle vibe their Food talks in High Volumes!!

Initiated with the traditional beverage!!

Sol Kadhi AMAZING!! One of the best iv had in recent times. Every sip had a nice spicy chaska to it, beautiful balance of sol & coconut milk this was lovely. You shouldn't miss on this. A Must Have at #jaihindlunchhome

Pomfret Tawa Fry Classic, Old school home style fish fry, sliced pomfret well marinated and fried with low traces of oil, the fish was nice & fresh, this was yum.

Pomfret Pulimunchi Mangalorean style gravy, a commingle of spicy & sour, lovely essence of spices, coconut based thick gravy, super filling paired it with neer dosa & appam.

Appam One of the best appams iv had in the city, Fluffy appam with a sweetish tinge this was really good. Well prepared.

Surmai Thali : Fish Thali consisted of : -slice of fried surmai -fish curry -chapatis (3) -a bowl of rice -javla (dried baby prawn) well prepared in malavani style, loved it. -khicha papad -sol kadi The thali is filling for 1. Its A amazingly yum!! Go for it.

Dessert Caramel Custard Nice & lite way to end a meal on a Sweet note. This was Goooooood.

Overall A Super Satiated Experience!! Kitchen Team : Amazing Job Quick and Prompt service by Sunil Kamble & Shaizad Ali.

Amazing Food, Good Service. Value for money.

I have been a regular at Jai Hind for more than 15 years now but over the last 3 or 4 visits to their various branches I have noticed that their quality has diminished significant to what it was 10 years ago. Being such huge fans of their Chicken Sagoti and Neer Dosa, their prawns preparations and their thalis today was the worst experience I have had. I am genuinely disappointed because I come a long way just to have food at their outlets. Given that I live in Belapur Navi Mumbai I came tonight to have dinner with my family and we ordered 3 different Thalis for us and a Chicken Sagoti. Idk since when did Chicken Sagoti being a Goan preparation became a maharashtra/malvani chicken masala?? Because that's what we were served and it was honestly just way below the standards set by Jai Hind all these years. Idk if they have replaced the overall head chef and got someone new but each of their dish lacked those southern coastal flavors and was overloaded with Maharashtrian flavors ? It's not that I'm against Maharashtrian food I love it but why would I go to Jai Hindi instead of Maharashtra Lunch Home which serves amazing Maharashtrian food. Even the pomfret fry was bad. The surmai fry was done in the same manner. Fish was fresh no doubt but the Masalas have changed. The Prawns Sukka was omg way too too substandard? I was feeling so bad for the costly prawns that were wasted being tossed in such an awful preparation. All in all next time onwards chances of me visiting from Navi Mumbai to Bandra is 0% You guys lost a loyal customer in me.

Overhyped place I think. I have to admit that the seafood is fresh and the place is absolutely hygienic. Taste-wise it's good..but not wonderful. We were 2 adults and 1 ten year old who visited this place for dinner on Thursday night. It was relatively full but we could find a table instantly. Ordered the following starters Bharlela Bombil 2 pcs ₹320 Bombil Fry 3pcs ₹250(bland) Prawns Koliwada Fry (good qty and qlty) Squid Butter pepper garlic(delicious) Squid fry(bland) 1 glass Solkadi(too sweet) 1 kharvas 1 caramel custard Bill was ₹1953 Honestly both the bombil dishes were overpriced for the qty provided. Taste wise also food is just good.. Nothing great. I've had better tasting bombil fry from local caterers in Andheri. All of us have v low appetite so we were too full to try any thalis. But I was quite disappointed as had read too much and heard too much about this place.
