Pratap Da Dhaba, Oshiwara, Andheri West: A Candid Review
Pratap Da Dhaba in Oshiwara, Andheri West, Mumbai, is a well-known spot for those seeking dhaba-style North Indian cuisine. However, despite its reputation, the dining experience at this restaurant leaves much to be desired. Below are some of the key issues that significantly affect the overall experience.
Parking and Entrance One of the first challenges you encounter is the parking situation. There is no parking available outside the restaurant, and although valet service is offered, the inconvenience of not having dedicated parking can be a hassle, especially during busy hours. Additionally, the entrance to the restaurant is often accompanied by a foul smell of drainage, which creates an unpleasant first impression as you walk in.
Ambience and Seating Pratap Da Dhaba offers both indoor (air-conditioned) and outdoor (open) seating, but neither option provides a comfortable dining experience.
Outdoor Seating: The outdoor area is covered with a temporary canopy made of bamboo and waterproof sheets, which fails to provide adequate protection from dust, insects, and falling leaves. The seating arrangement is poorly designed and lacks ergonomic comfort, making it difficult to enjoy your meal. Hygiene is also a significant concern, with cutlery and crockery that are often not cleaned properly.
Indoor Seating: The indoor air-conditioned area fares no better. The ambiance is hampered by low lighting and a persistent odor of moisture and toilet smells, which makes the dining experience far from enjoyable. Like the outdoor area, the hygiene levels indoors are subpar, further contributing to the overall discomfort.
Service The service at Pratap Da Dhaba is another major issue. The staff is not professional and seems untrained. Orders are often mixed up, and dishes are served in a disorganized manner. For instance, salads might arrive after the starters have been finished, and snacks may be served after the main course. The lack of attentiveness and poor communication from the service staff can lead to frustration and confusion during your meal.
Food Quality and Quantity The most disappointing aspect of the experience is the food itself. The quality of the food is poor, with dishes often arriving cold and lacking freshness. Hygiene concerns extend to the food, which further detracts from the meal. While the quantity of the food is reasonable, it doesn't compensate for the substandard quality and lack of taste. Overall, the food fails to live up to expectations and leaves much to be desired.
Conclusion Pratap Da Dhaba in Oshiwara, Andheri West, falls short on many fronts. From the unpleasant entrance and lack of proper parking to the poor hygiene, uncomfortable seating, and substandard food quality, the experience is far from satisfactory. The unprofessional service and disorganized food delivery only add to the frustration. With so many issues, it's difficult to recommend this restaurant, especially when there are better options available in the area. If you're looking for an enjoyable dining experience, Pratap Da Dhaba might not be the...

Pratap the dabba surely took my heart away. The outdoor seating gives u the vibes of a highway dhabba without the honking trucks. We choose to sit indoors. The lighting was dull which gave it a cosy feel but made it difficult to click pictures.
The service - top notch. Brownie points to Mr Shankar who was attentive and tip toed.
The music punjabi style - total rocking.
What we ate.
Pani puri shots - complimentry and much needed as we choose not to drink.
Crispy fried garlic - never tasted these before. Too good. Crispy fried garlic topped with chaat masala and chilly powder.
Mutton seekh kebabs - totally upmarket succelent mutton seekh. The presentation - okaish. The taste - lip smacking, Umami flavours.
Tandoori chicken half - the secret of tandoori chicken lies in the tandoor. This one was close to perfect. Smoky, charred, moist and succelent. The yellowish brown color meant this was loaded with haldi and other masalas(no added coloring) totally masaledar.
This was accompanied with lemons, mint chutney, smashed onions sprinkled with chaat masalas.
Butter naan - made to perfection and loaded with butter. These were melt in your mouths. (We had them with seekh and tandoori chicken and didnt choke)
Paan shots - the complimentry paan shots to end your dinner were so incredible that we doubled the tip.
Be prepared to bump into a celebrity or two.(Bigg Boss fame Ayesha was sitting on the adjoining table)

Read moreOshiwara is the food hub of Mumbai and the variety made me decide to try out some Indian spices. Valet parking available which is quintessential in the narrow lane where the restaurant is located.
We preferred the outside seating although there is an AC section too. There were giant swing fans to help us stay cool.
The staff is really proactive. They are well trained to manage crowd and thus we were quickly seated and order taken in a jiffy.
The restaurant does know the psychology of customers. As soon as we were seated a cool green coloured concoction was served that was refreshing and out of the ordinary. Tell me who doesn’t want a freebie.
As we sipped on the beer we were served peanuts. It was followed by a plate of onion served with a spices that made me want for more. Along with it was burnt garlic sautéed in ghee. The mood obviously was upbeat.
The seating is very ordinary decorated minimally as a village surrounding from Punjab. Women drawing water from well and men in traditional wear standing. Low maintenance and very effective.
The tangri kebab came in 4 large pieces and we felt full. But it was day to test our appetite thus we ordered Missi roti and Sarson da Saag. Heavenly it was and the quantity was equally delightful good for 2 people
At the end meal a pan concoction was served again as complimentary. They do not charge service charge like most restaurants in Mumbai and thus we request to add to the tip as per your wish.
An ideal stop for good food and conversation! Must visit and...
