Located near Citylight theater, Ram Punjab was renovated a couple of years ago to get a more upmarket feel, while still maintaining pocket friendly rates. I have been here many times for a snack or a drink but this time I dropped in for a proper meal so here goes. The ambience is not great, it's not what you would call a family friendly place, though nothing like a desi bar, and it does get noisy when crowded. We opened our innings with Smirnoff, and the first starter was Murg Koliwada. They're essentially chicken nuggets, crispy outer layer, delicious meat on the inside, I strongly recommend this one. Murg Sholey Kebab was our next starter, which is chicken kebabs covered in egg fluff. The fluff tastes good only when genuinely hot, so I suggest licking off that first, and then attacking the chicken which was very tender, a little on the sweeter side. With the vodka done we now had rum running down our throats in the form of the all time favourite Old Monk. For the mains we ordered Murg Patiala (what's with everything being named "Murg"!) with Butter Roti. The rotis have enough butter on them to give you a heart attack by just looking at them, but then that's also what makes them so pleasurable for the taste buds. Murg Patiala is chicken and gravy in an omelette, and I totally loved it, a must have in my opinion. Portions served are quite sizeable, so we were too stuffed to have any desserts. The only major downside to this place is the service, which can vary from average to disastrous. From the waiters not being attentive to totally lacking any etiquette, it can be both funny and frustrating. During this particular visit, we were given only forks along with the starters, so we asked for spoons. After a brief wait the waiter arrived and literally threw the spoons on the table!! That first half hour we spent, from having Smirnoff and starters to the spoon hurling, pretty much sums up what you can expect at Ram Punjab, inexpensive alcohol, excellent food, and...
Read moreA very friendly place, everyone's smiling & talking amongst each other & for a change not grumpy. Service is super fine with the attended ever eager to serve you with anything. First, the drink. It's a very very reasonable priced bar with a wide variety, from an average IMFL to single malts one can get everything at an almost " Happy Hour" rates. Second, & the most important of all is the " Great , tasty food". They have probably the best " finger licking varieties " up their repertoire despite the humble appearance. Start from the finger food, " mini batata vada, Dal Vada, Moong vada " these will just floor you with their culinary skill. Next & if you have any more appetite, the Tandoor or any other preps, fish or chicken, veg or non veg, everything's just above average any day. Once I started going there on someone else's recommendation, I've already made four visits & an yearning for more. I give straight four ratings for the overall experience & have cut one star for the upkeep & decor of the place. ( It's very humble & basic) Yet I don't know the logic of an average 2.5 rating, that's not doing...
