Reviews of Sukiya Tokyo Bowls

My recent visit to Sukiya Tokyo Bowls in Nehru Place was an exploration into some truly unique Japanese chicken dishes. Forget your standard grilled or fried – Sukiya presents chicken in a way you've likely never experienced before.

Stepping inside, the air carried an intriguing blend of savory and subtly sweet aromas, hinting at the distinct flavors that awaited. I decided to try one of their chicken bowls (again, the specific name escapes me, but it featured tender pieces of chicken simmered in a flavorful broth with onions and possibly some other vegetables).

Now, let's talk about the taste. The first bite was definitely a departure from the familiar. The sauce had a noticeable sweetness, balanced by a savory depth that was quite different from the usual chicken preparations I've encountered. The chicken itself was incredibly tender, having absorbed the flavors of the broth, but the overall taste profile was distinctly Japanese and, to be frank, a bit unusual for my palate initially.

This, I think, is the essence of Sukiya's charm (and perhaps challenge). They're not serving up typical Japanese dishes you might find elsewhere in Delhi. This is a different style, one that emphasizes unique flavor combinations that might require a bit of getting used to. It felt like my taste buds were on a mini-adventure, trying to decipher these new and interesting notes.

The service was helpful, with staff ready to explain the different bowls, which was appreciated as the menu featured items I wasn't familiar with. The atmosphere was casual and focused on the dining experience.

Sukiya Tokyo Bowls in Nehru Place offers a very different take on chicken in Japanese cuisine. Be prepared for flavor profiles that are likely unlike anything you've tried before, often featuring a noticeable sweetness alongside savory elements. It's the kind of food that might require an acquired taste, a willingness to step outside your usual chicken comfort zone and explore new culinary territory. If you're a chicken lover with an adventurous spirit and are open to experiencing a unique and potentially surprising style of Japanese cooking, Sukiya is worth checking out. Just go in with an open mind and be ready for a flavor journey that might not be instantly familiar, but could ultimately be rewarding. You might just discover a new way to...

(Edited) Forgot to mention that it is VERY budget friendly. You can get two whole dishes for just under 600.

Hi ! I went to Sukiya a few weeks ago and let me drop a review.

Let's start from the beginning, you can call me 'Tag', I am a teenager and I have been to many places in the world. I am a vivid foodie. I hope this review helps you !

Sukiya is the most authentic japanese fast food restaurant ive been to in India. Our family visited Japan in 2019, so trust me when I say what Japanese food tastes like- Sukiya's decoration was exactly like the fast food chains in Japan, even their menu was the same.

Let me mention one thing, Sukiya is ACTUALLY a Japanese chain. It's in Japan, though I did not see it at the time.

Furthermore, their food tastes amazing. Most of the times, Asian restaurants in India serving Japanese food end up Indianising it. But no, this was 100 percent Japanese.

We had a Katsu Bowl and a Tokyo Ramen.

Katsu Bowl had crispy, panko coated chicken, with fluffy Japanese rice. One bite and I felt like I was in japan. The tokyo ramen was especially good too, with an umami broth, slurpy noodles and bok choy, egg and a good amount of chicken. They gave us a spice dip with it, and it enhanced the flavour a lot more.

Also the staff is friendly and nice. We didn't expect it to be sooo nice, cuz when we went there it was empty. A little shady, but I feel like I've won the damn lottery.

Oh, also I don't think people who know what Japanese cuisine tastes like would like it though. You need to have very accommodating taste buds for this. If you don't, then well... it's an acquired taste.

Just, don't expect it to be too spicy. Because Japanese food is not about hot spices.

I want to start the review by saying if you have not had a traditional ramen bowl (soy, miso or pork) then this place is not for you, it's best to go to a place where you have Indian style of noodles. They have tried to keep the flavour as close to the original as possible within the limitations of being in an Indian society where beef and pork consumption is highly frowned upon.

It's a tiny place, but we were greeted warmly and quickly had a perfect table for our party of four.

We ordered a real spread, including the grilled chicken bowl, yakisoba noodle bowl, a spicy Tokyo ramen, and a spicy chashu ramen. On the side, we had rice, soft boiled egg, 2 miso soups, chicken karage, chicken katsu, and prawn tempura, all washed down with one of each of their fresh lemonades.

Needless to say, the food was served fresh and piping hot. The server was incredibly attentive to our requests throughout the meal, and overall, it was a truly wonderful experience.

P.S. I highly recommend the chashu! The pieces were succulent and melt-in-your-mouth tender, and the rich, spicy broth was absolutely phenomenal—especially when I later mixed it with the rice for a final, spicy, flavorful bite. But don't stop there. The chicken katsu and karage deserve a special mention. They were clearly marinated, seasoned, and cooked to absolute perfection; the coating was light and crispy while the chicken itself was ridiculously juicy and tender. It was clear that care went into every preparation. I was in foodie heaven!

If you're looking for an authentic, fresh, and deeply satisfying meal in a cozy setting, this place is...

I recently dined at your restaurant, and I must say the experience was extremely disappointing. The food service was completely disorganized. First, I was served a rice bowl and a chilled soft-boiled egg, which was very unusual. I have had soft-boiled eggs at various places, but this was the first time it was served cold. I would like to know if this is your standard preparation. Then, dessert was served next, and the rest of the food arrived nearly 20 minutes later, only after I repeatedly asked. By the time the remaining dishes arrived, the rice bowl was already finished. The miso soup was flavorless and curdled, and when I raised this concern, I was told, "It is supposed to be like that." This response felt dismissive and unhelpful. If this is not how the soup is supposed to be served, it is something that needs immediate attention. The staff's behavior was extremely unprofessional. When I questioned the erratic sequence of service and delays, I was told, "We are busy and serving whatever is ready." At the counter, when I repeated my concern, I received sarcastic smiles and was bluntly told, "Yes, that's our answer." Such responses are unacceptable in any hospitality setting. I understand that the restaurant may have been crowded, but that does not justify the poor service and lack of basic courtesy. The behavior and approach of the staff indicate a serious gap in training and professionalism. I hope you take this feedback seriously and address these issues promptly. Please let me know if serving chilled soft-boiled eggs and curdled miso soup is the standard practice at your restaurant.
