A Flavourful Journey to the South: Anna Idli Review
Tucked away in the bustling streets of Baner, Pune, Anna Idli is a culinary gem that serves up authentic and mouth-watering South Indian cuisine. I recently had the pleasure of dining at this popular eatery, and I'm excited to share my experience.
Authentic Flavours, Exquisite Preparation
We began our meal with the iconic Masala Dosa, which was cooked to perfection. The dosa was crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, wrapped around a generous helping of spiced potatoes and onions. The sambar and chutney served on the side added a delightful burst of flavour to the dish.
The Idli was another standout, with a soft and airy texture that simply melted in our mouths. Paired with a side of sambar and chutney, it made for a delightful and comforting snack.
The Podi Idli, sprinkled with a generous helping of spicy podi powder, added a delightful burst of flavour to the dish. Each bite was a masterclass in texture and flavour, with the crispy exterior giving way to a soft and fluffy interior.
Finish with a Cup of Filter Coffee
No South Indian meal is complete without a cup of filter coffee, and Anna Idli's rendition did not disappoint. The coffee was rich and bold, with a deep flavour that lingered on our palates long after we finished our meal.

The ambiance at Anna Idli is warm and inviting, with a cozy atmosphere that makes you feel right at home. The service is prompt and courteous, with friendly staff who are happy to answer any questions you may have about the menu.

Read moreRecently this is place has got lot of buzz. I tried some of their much talked about items from the menu.
Coming straight to the Menu and Ambience, first look at the menu gives a decent feel of the menu nothing fancy but all basic covered apart from some additional dishes like Podi Idlis, Mallige Idlis, Ragi Dosa, Rice varieties are different on each day which is mentioned in the menu same case goes with the Payasam.
The Ambience is bright and to add southern feel they have paintings and artefact placed all over. They have open kitchen concept which is very clean and maintained. Staff is very courteous and happy to serve you.
Food we tried:
Podi Idli:[₹85/-] Mini Idlis coated with ghee and sprinkled with the Gun Powder served with Sambar and coconut Chutney. This was nice and one spoon one Idli, and it was over in no time.
Upma:[₹45/-] It had vegetables added to it, bit on greasier side. Served with Chutney.
Ragi Masala Dosa: [₹90/-] This was something off the regular menu at other restaurants. Nice and healthy option served with regular Dosa subji with Sambar and Chutney. This Dosa is soft and not like the regular Dosa which are thin and crispy. Taste wise it was good nicely made.
Medu Wada:[₹45/-] They have an option of single Wada serving. Wada was bit disappointing as it was too soggy. But nice big in size, sambar was hot and had an distinct taste than the other regular South Indian restaurants. If the Wada would have been bit crisp then, this will be one of the favourite dish from the menu.
Filter Kappi:[₹35/-] Nice strong and hot coffee. You might ask for more its so good.
Value for money: Reasonably priced worth spending.

Read moreI recently dined at Anna Idli and sampled a variety of their dishes. Here’s my experience:
Ghee Podi Idli: This was an absolute delight. The combination of ghee and podi was rich and flavorful, making it a must-try.
Idli: The idlis were soft, fluffy, and incredibly tasty—a perfect rendition of the classic South Indian favorite.
Medu Vada: The medu vada had a great texture, crispy on the outside and soft inside, with just the right seasoning.
Onion Masala Dosa: This dosa hit the mark with its perfect crispiness and well-spiced onion masala, a true comfort dish.
Filter Coffee: The filter coffee was brewed just right, offering a strong, authentic flavor that coffee aficionados will appreciate.
Rawa Idli: The rawa idli was another hit, with its distinct texture and taste making for a delightful meal.
Ginger Tea: The ginger tea had a wonderfully soothing flavor with a balanced kick of ginger, making it refreshing.
Upma: Though a simpler dish, the upma was well-executed, with a comforting flavor that I enjoyed.
Lemon Tea: was disappointing, tasting more like medicine than a refreshing beverage. This was the one item that we really didn’t enjoy.
While the food at Anna Idli was good, I did encounter a few drawbacks. The restaurant lacked proper ventilation, which made it somewhat uncomfortable, especially during busy hours. The fans didn’t cover the entire space, leaving some areas feeling warm. Additionally, I found the prices to be on the higher side considering the overall dining experience.
In conclusion, Anna Idli excels in delivering authentic South Indian cuisine with rich flavors, but there are some comfort and pricing issues that could...
