Before even starting anything, hats off to this place for the freshness of the ingredients and the structure of the dishes maintained. Saying this because this is one of those places where you actually feel like eating fish meat. So much stress is given over the curry/masala at other places that flavours of fish actually fall short to satisfy the craving. Minimilistic yet adequate use of spices at this place won my mind and heart. I was satisfied to the core for all my fish cravings. FCR / Fish Curry Rice is a 2nd generation business run by Mr Sandesh Bhatt. The ambience is not fancy. yet perfect in its own way and gives a homely feeling. The dishes are the steel ones, yes the same ones we use at home. What we had here was : First thing we had here was Tival which is goan version of solkadhi. The fragrance of greenchilli hinted that this thing is going to be epic and sure it was !! Onion Kachrya: Onion slices deep fried in rice flour. This didnt exactly made then crisp, but the awesome as being fried in coconut oil. Padawan Pomfret and Prawns : Star ingredient of this dishes is the masala used .Thick puree made out of coconut , greenchilli and coriander is stuffed inside the pomfret fish and this is then wrapped up in jackfruit leaf and steamed in a vessel called Padawan , hence the name . For prawns, they were marinated in the same masala and cooked using the same process. This literally took the fish to another level. Bangda Karnataka: Hands down one of the best bangda I have ever eaten . I usually dont like bangda coz of this smell, but here it was no where to be found . The cooking process consists of roasting the chicken is this so called perfect marination which has this strong spiciness and lemony zing to it. Surmai Palamunji: Big portion of Surmai covered in precooked masala and kept on low flame and allowed to cook. Another generous portion of the masala is applied to it just to keep the dryness away. The masala dominated with coconut and curry leaves flavours and tasted awesome. Prawns Tihkla: Curry made out of byagdi mirchi powder , coconut and triphal. This resulted into strong spicy and tangy taste which went well with chapati and rice bhakri Prawns Bhaat / Rice: This thing is gold!! Hands down tasted better than all the masala rice/bhaat/pulaaos I have tasted recently. The amount and taste of the masala prepared for this was just perfect and the way I love it. Flavourful, yet spicy. Roughly perfectly cooked prawns, but just a bit hard , so that they dont get overcooked as they are cooked with the rice, Must try at this place!! Overall: Apart from the polite staff and ambience , the best thing I would like to highlight here is the experience that get of having the rightly done fishes. I am not a regular fish eater , but this experience somehow satisfies me. This somehow feels right that how a fish should be cooked. We were also served with fresh coconut chutney along with cauliflower chutney. We were also served tasters of all the different fish curries which come along with the main dish in thalis. None of the 4 tasters were even close to each other in terms of flavour. Hats off for maintaining this difference. A must visit place for fish lovers.

I don't know how appropriate it will be for me to write a review for this place considering being a vegetarian. Still would like put up the review about the experience i had a twice that I had been to this place along with friends & family who are all non-vegetarian. . . For vegetarians, they have a typical Maharashtrian Thali and few dishes on A la carte options, I wouldn't expect more considering the place specialty is Fish & curries. . . They do have variety of options & combos in fish, chicken & mutton thali. According to my husband & friends the food taste was amazing, it might look little steep but the size of the fish & for the taste it is worth it. . . I have no complaints about the food, but at our recent visit we were tricked by the manager. They didn't had vegetarian food that night, hence my friend & I decided to go at some other place wherein I will also have options to eat as well. As we were leaving the manager came and asked the reason, after we told him that the reason, he said that they have usal & dal so instead of spoiling my friend's mood, I agreed for it and we sat back. Ones my friend decided to place the order for different fish thalis for them & were placing orders, the manager came again and said instead of having same thali, he will give different dishes so they all can share and try different dishes, for which we all agreed & assume that he will give 3 different thali with items that he think are must-haves. We said whatever he thinks is good serve us that. When the food came in it was all different individual dishes, still we thought instead of pre served in thali they are bringing it individually. They brought some 5 starter (surmai fry, bombil fry, mutton fry, one more fish fry, a potato fry for me), 2 main courses, prawns curry & sad & over cooked & tasteless Usal for me which I am sure was made for their staff and all this for 4 people & out of which I was vegetarian. . . My friends ate the food that was served to assuming that it is part of their thali, however when the bill came, all the dishes were charged separately. We realized our mistake by trusting the manager and allowing him to change our order & conceiving me eat their leftover vegetarian food. Though I really wanted to call the manager and convey my disappointment but he suddenly disappeared from the restaurant and my friends were kind & had no interest to get into the argument and left paying the over the top bills which others would have been half of what we paid, if they had ordered the thalis or we would have just left in the first place. . . With this experience, I would say don't let the management of the restaurant trick you with orders, the food is good but now I don't trust the service, the waiters also started eating their food in the next tables while we were still there, which was also the reason we didn't want to get into an argument with them because they were having food. I think we our trust in hospitality & goodness were the reason that got us tricked. I or even my friends would think twice after this experience. . . P.S : The below pictures are from our previous visit at this place.

Finally visited this award-winning restaurant with high hopes and guess what! They upheld my high hopes with their yummy seafood, light Marathi music in the background and a pleasant ambience. The place is decorated with awards and photos of the various plays that were produced by the owners of Fish curry rice. The logo itself is interesting which depicts a fish head with a brinjal as the tail showing a mix of seafood, chicken, mutton and vegetable dishes in the menu. The first item on the menu had to be Bombil thecha fry, which is the regular Bombil stuffed with thecha (a spicy green chilli preparation) and then fried, giving a nice, crispy and medium-spicy taste. Crunchy and brittle on the outside and soft, almost buttery on the inside, this delicacy acted as an appetizer to a seafood meal. The next item was the Chonar fish fry, a Goan special. At Fish curry rice, the owner wants to spread awareness about the variety of fish available and hence you'll always find a new type of fish on the specials menu. Prawns Aluwadi, a delicious twist to the usual Aluwadi, caught my eye. Minced prawn meat stuffed in the aluwadi. The difference is so subtle that only a seafood lover can spot it. Rawas fry is another appetizer that I tried here and it was quite tasty. The fried fish here is served hot on your plate. Tival and Solkadhi perfectly accompany the fried fish. Before you order the main course, ask for a sample plate of curries and you'll receive an assorted platter of curries. You can choose the type of fish and the curry to cook it in. I opted for the prawns curry and it was delicious! Served with a side of Khotte idli and prawns tikhale, it turned out to be a great combination. I haven't tried the vegetable dishes here yet but will definitely update my review whenever I do. You'll find limited options in desserts here, mainly because the seafood meals are quite heavy on the stomach. But I was delighted to see Kharvas on the menu and immediately went for it. Kharvas is made from the first form of milk produced by a cow within 2-3 days of giving birth. Many people don't know about kharvas and I have found myself describing it to people on quite a few occasions. The Kharvas here has a smooth texture and is sweet, soft and moist. Definitely a perfect dish to end your meal here. As someone with a Konkani family background, the food here tasted exactly like the home-cooked one with the same style of cooking and the use of similar ingredients and spices. Whenever I have visited this place, I have always found atleast one family speaking in Konkani. The restaurant here has tried to replicate the authentic Konkani style of cooking and is quite successful at doing so. I visited this restaurant last week and I have already come back here twice! You'll know what I'm talking about when you visit Fish curry rice.

Fish Curry Rice

There are very few places where you can enjoy the food at a restaurant and yet you will feel like you are eating at your home. Fish Curry rice is one of those place in my list. I have been visiting FCR since 2010 and enjoying seafood which is one of my personal favourite. I have visited the shaniwar peth and law college outlets many times and as soon as I got a msg from Sandesh Bhatt sir for visiting the Baner outlet I was really excited. The Baner outlet has started their operation since Jan 2018 and is located on baner road opp to the LIC /SBI Building. The ambience of this place is simple yet elegant, there are paintings of popular old Marathi plays put up on the walls and the wooden tables and chairs give it a traditional look, the seating is comfortable. I visited this place for #foodtasting.

Welcome Drink Tival: A kokum based runny drink which had a hint of spicyness from green chilly was good and refreshing. This complimentary drink is served to all the customers who visit FCR.

JiriMira Kadhi: A coconut based kadhi prepared with jeera, pepper, curry leaves and mustard seeds was something unique and was good in taste.

Thecha Bombil Fry: Bombil stuffed with green chilly-garlic thecha was shallow fried with rawa coating. The thecha was perfect on spice level and the bombil was superb in taste. I have never had anything like this before and was surprised to see this dish which turned out really good. #Highlyrecommended

Stuffed Bangada Fry: This dish has recently been introduced under the new menu addition where Bangada was stuffed with coconut and coriander based green chutney and then shallow fried with rawa coating, this one was also brilliantly done, the chutney complimented the bangada fry and was excellent in taste. #Recommended

Surmai Thali: Surmai Fish Fry, Prawns Curry (Goan Style), Bangada Fish Curry (Karwar Style), Chapati/Tandalachi Bhakri, Steamed Rice, Solkadhi. The surmai fish fry was a huge palm sized surmai with rawa coating which was shallow fired and was done neatly, the prawns curry had medium sized prawns in a medium thick curry and was medium spicy, the Bangada curry was prepared in karwar style which was bit spicy and tangy, both curries were prepared with a finely grinded paste of coconut, coriander seeds and bedgi mirchi, the bangada curry was a bit spicy because of the use of Triphal in the same and were truly flavourful and went well with thr rice flour bhakari and hot steamed rice. The in house prepared solkadhi was again superbly done and had the slightly spicy punch. The thali also comes with a green chutney preparead from coconut, pudina, coriander, jeera and pinch of sugar and a red chutney prepared from coconut, bedgi mirchi, tamarind and jeera. Both chutneys are exceptional in taste. I really enjoyed having this scrumptious thali.

Overall: Service was prompt and restaurant was hygienic. The staff was polite and friendly. The Baner outlet is having a good seating capacity of around 80 people and is spacious. The seafood preparation done at FCR is in Goan & Karwar Style whereas the chicken and mutton preparations are done in Mangalorean and Malvani Style. FCR will definitely be in my recommended places list for having seafood. Pricing might appear to be on higher side but I personlly don’t mind paying if I am getting superior quality food with excellent ambience and prompt service.

Location: Near Kapil Complex, Opp to LIC / SBI building, Baner Main Road,...

Fish curry rice is located in the happening streets of baner, the restaurant has a speciality in serving seafood, the restaurant has variety dishes in goan and malwani cuisine, the place has kept the authenticity of goan and malwani food and the place has also brought some twist and turns in some dishes which led to the innovation of new dishes.

The place makes each and every dish in a different flavour curry which makes this place unique and more adorable, the place has large variety of seafood dishes in menu which gives you lot of varieties of seafood to choose and to eat, this place is a must visit for seafood fans, the place gives you all types of curries in a bowl to taste and you can tell the curry which you liked the most to the server and then your fish will be made in that curry which makes you to enjoy your meal to next level.

Coming on to the food which i tried here:

1)TIVAL:This was a kokum based drink,it had a watery consistency and a strong kokum flavour with other spices as soon as drink it you get a strong kokum flavour and then a hit of spice at the end which surprises your tastebuds.

2)SUKAT PAPAD:This was papad topped with sukat, the sukat chutney was made with perfection and went too good with the papad.

3)PADWAN SURMAI:This surmai is cooked in padwan untensil so the name of the dish is padwan surmai, the surmai had a tangy flavour of tomato and subtle flavour of coconut chutney, the taste and flavours were beyond delicious and the surmai was absolutely fresh.HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

4)PRAWNS RAWA FRY:These were crispy fried prawns coated with rawa, the prawns were fried to perfection and had a nice crispy texture and the most important the prawns were not oily at all.

5)MORI FRY:This was baby shark, the baby shark had a tangy marination, the baby shark was fried to perfection, there was not a single drop of oil on the body of the baby shark and as the baby shark has a little thick meat than other fishes, the fish was tasting really good and out of the world.HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

This resulted into strong spicy and tangy taste which went well with chapati and rice bhakri

Prawns Bhaat / Rice: This thing is gold!!

A must visit place for...
