Satkar Hotel — Restaurant in Pune

I was in the neighborhood for work and it was 2:00 pm and I happened to notice this restaurant on 1st floor of a bldg that has a bank branch on the ground floor. Very highly congested neighborhood. Satkar is small, perhaps 8 to 10 tables well spaced out.

I ordered Surmai masala, butter roti and chaach with a chilled bottle of water. When food is served fresh, one has to be patient, and boy was my patience rewarded. This was perhaps the BEST surmai, best tasting fish curry I've had in my life. Solid 3 steak cut pieces of fresh surmai. Not defrosted fish. I've had a lot of fish curry all over Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore, NYC, Singapore, Bangkok, this fish curry is one of the best hands down (excluding coastal towns and villages ofcourse), in my opinion. I cannot wait to try their mutton dishes next.

I'm in my mid 50s, the portion was perfect, however someone in their 20s to 30s may find the portion...

visited this hotel and ordered a Chicken Thali, Egg Biryani, and Solkadi. Very disappointing experience.

The menu card mentioned Chapati/Bhakri options in the thali, but in reality, they only had roti.

Service was extremely slow – it took 30 minutes just to get the thali, and almost 50 minutes for the Egg Biryani.

Even during billing, they made multiple mistakes.

Food quality was poor – the Egg Biryani tasted like plain jeera rice with no biryani flavor, the Chicken Curry was not tasty, and the Solkadi was extremely salty.

Overall, waste of money and time. I would not recommend this...

I recently visited this restaurant and took a parcel of both veg and chicken biryani. Unfortunately, it was one of the worst biryani experiences I’ve ever had.

The veg biryani was missing basic elements like barista (fried onions), and the rice was undercooked. The chicken biryani was equally disappointing—it had an overpowering black pepper taste and nothing that resembled the rich, layered flavor of a proper biryani.

I genuinely believe in respecting food, but this was extremely disheartening. The quality and preparation were far below expectations. I do not recommend anyone to try...
