Song of Bengal Restaurant in Puri is an upscale eatery that specializes in Bengali cuisine, particularly known for its fresh fish dishes and traditional delicacies. The restaurant's ambiance is one of its standout features, with posh, tasteful decorations that create a cozy yet sophisticated atmosphere. This setting makes it a popular spot for those looking to enjoy a meal in style.
The menu at Song of Bengal offers a broad selection of Bengali favorites, with fish as the star of the show. Whether it's the aromatic and spicy Macher Jhol or the rich and creamy Chingri Malai Curry, the restaurant's chefs seem to know how to deliver authentic flavors. Other classics, such as Shorshe Ilish and Pabda Shorshe, are also executed with skill, appealing to those who appreciate genuine Bengali tastes.
Despite the high quality of the food, one of the restaurant's notable drawbacks is its pricing. The dishes are on the more expensive side, which may deter budget-conscious diners. For those seeking an everyday meal or a casual dinner out, the prices might be a bit steep. However, the quality of the ingredients and the careful preparation do justify the cost to some extent.
Service at Song of Bengal is friendly and polite, but there are occasional delays that can be frustrating, especially during busier times. These slower service times can be a downside for patrons expecting prompt attention and quick turnaround.
In summary, Song of Bengal Restaurant in Puri is a commendable choice for those looking to indulge in traditional Bengali cuisine in a stylish setting. Visited for lunch hoping for a good Bengali meal, but the experience was quite average, with some notable highs and lows.
Basmati Rice Full (₹90): 4/5 — Fluffy, long-grain rice, nicely cooked.
Ghee Lemon Rice (₹120): 2/5 — More like South Indian lemon rice, didn't pair well with the rest of the meal.
Doi Katla (Peti) (₹175): 0/5 — Very disappointing. The fish was not fresh, extremely hard and rubbery. Complaints were ignored initially, with no improvement in service.
Chingri Malai Curry (₹280): 4/5 — Tasty and rich, with six well-sized prawns.
Mejajee Mangsho Mutton (₹400): 5/5 — Absolutely delicious! Rich, flavorful, and perfectly cooked mutton.
Fish Fry (2 pcs): 4/5 — Crispy, well-fried with a good coating.
Service: Poor — inattentive staff, and no proactive response to complaints.
Ambience: Lacking — not well maintained, and the environment didn’t feel clean.
Cleanliness: Below average — most glasses were chipped or broken; they only replaced them after we complained.
Food: Mixed — a few dishes were excellent, but the freshness and consistency need improvement.
Verdict: Skip if you're expecting premium service or ambience. Go only for the Mejajee Mangsho and Chingri Malai Curry — the only...
Read moreThis is WORST RESTAURANT we have ever experienced in my whole life. WORST SERVICE, WORST MANAGEMENT… WONT GO THERE AND SUGGEST EVERYONE NOT TO GO !
On 17th Dec 2025 , we ( me , my wife and 10 years old daughter) came to have our dinner at 9 pm . This restaurant has 2 sections of sitting section. We are requested to sit inside. We placed our order ( Mutton Kasha , plain rice , 4 chapati , Paneer Masala) almost immediately. After 15-20 minutes, found other guests who came later than us , getting their food but ours is not coming. Had gentle reminder to waiter/ supervisor. But no response except fake assurance. Even another family sitting beside us, asking for their remaining order, not being served. It’s 40 minutes past , our food not served and my daughter was starving! I had to voice out and manager mentioned that it’s another 3 minutes. But seeing no food even after 3 min, I had to knock kitchen door and said “NO NEED TO SERVE AS WE ARE LEAVING” . Found, stuff are blaming each other and saying they didn’t have MUTTON IN STOCK! Then why they took the order and keep us waiting!! Finally, WE LEFT THE RESTAURANT WITHOUT HAVING FOOD at 9:45 pm upon telling everyone sitting over there about our experience -...
