Signature Dishes
Biryani
Taste and Quality: Thalapakatti is celebrated for its authentic Dindigul-style biryani, which stands out for its unique flavor profile. Unlike other biryanis, their recipe uses seeraga samba rice, a short-grain variety known for its aroma and texture. The spices are perfectly balanced, and the biryani has a distinctive peppery kick combined with rich flavors from the ghee and meat. • Chicken Biryani: Tender, juicy chicken pieces are cooked to perfection and blend seamlessly with the rice. The marinade seeps into the meat, ensuring every bite is flavorful.
Portion Size: The portions are generous, making it a satisfying meal for one person. Their family packs are also worth considering for larger groups.
Accompaniments: The biryani is served with traditional sides like: • Salna : A tangy and slightly spicy curry that complements the biryani. • Raita: Cool and refreshing, balancing the heat of the biryani.
Kothu Parotta
Taste and Quality: The kothu parotta is a crowd-pleaser, showcasing the flavors of Tamil street food. Made with shredded parotta, vegetables, egg (or meat), and a medley of spices, it is stir-fried to create a rich, flavorful dish.
• Chicken Kothu Parotta: These variants are richer, with tender, juicy chunks chicken complementing the crispy parotta. The masala is perfectly spiced, striking a balance between tanginess and heat.
Portion Size: The portion size is filling and ideal for an individual meal or as a shared side dish.
Authenticity: The flavors are authentic, reminiscent of the Tamil roadside eateries, but the cleanliness and quality elevate the experience.
Pricing
• Biryani: Moderately priced for the quality and authenticity. While it might be slightly more expensive than local biryani stalls, the flavor and portion size justify the cost. • Kothu Parotta: Reasonably priced, offering great value for money.
Pros
Authentic Dindigul-style biryani with a unique flavor profile. High-quality ingredients, including tender meat and fragrant spices. Consistently flavorful kothu parotta, with customizable options (veg, egg, chicken, or mutton). Comfortable dining environment and reliable takeaway/delivery services.
Cons
The biryani’s spice level might be too intense for those with mild palates. Portions of the kothu parotta could feel heavy due to the richness of the masala.
Final Verdict
Thalapakatti lives up to its reputation as a premier destination for South Indian biryani and kothu parotta. The biryani is a must-try for its authentic Dindigul flavors, while the kothu parotta is a delicious, spicy alternative for those seeking Tamil Nadu street food in a refined setting.

Read moreLocated in Guindy between Hablis and royal meridian.. Easy to spot and locate.... Quite a spectacle to look at... Nice glass finished restaurant.... With sufficient bike parking... Car parking is roadside only but given the broad road it doesn't seem to be a problem....
Two floor of dining with the ground floor made to be a waiting area and also the bbq and tandoori takeaway counter on one side... The 2 floors combined can seat around 100 ppl without any hassle... Restaurant is new so maintenance is good.. Look clean and perfectly maintained..But the table I sat on turned to wobbly which kind of ruined the dining experience....
The service team was courteous and quick in response...Very well attended and very less waiting time...No problems whatsoever....
Made a couple of visits and tried a few items like Chicken 65 Biryani, Mutton Biriyani, Chicken Rasam soup, Thalappakatti Chicken Porichadu, Kothu Parotta, Quality seemed impeccable atleast to the normal eyes... Rasam soup was good... Spicy... Kothu Parotta was very average... Chicken Porichathu was also good... Tasted good and was super spicy... The biryani was good...Tasted good... But for me the texture of the rice was something that did not appeal to me... Boneless chicken 65 pieces in the biryani were too good...Best of the lot... 4 normal sized ones and one tiny piece just for giving and headcount of 5...
Pricing is something am not comfortable here... Seemed to me to be 10-20% on the higher side.. Which also could have been forgiven if the quantity was any good... The biryani was just 3/4th of the normal quantity in other restaurants if not lesser than that... So was the case of all the items... Its also a known fact that seeraga samba rice is priced a bit high comparing normal ones but even then it doesn't seem to add up....
Will I visit again??? Definitely no from me.... Just because of their pricing and quantity... If you are ok with these 2 factors then you may well give this...
