Maybe the brightest lit restaurant on OMR, Karapakkam is the recently opened Madras Machan’s. As soon as you enter, the exciting walls welcome you; the black hand drawn sketches on the wall are so full of life that they infuse you with a curiosity everytime almost invariably. The Menu has reasonable no. of dishes for variety, mostly Tamil Cuisine and some of them are brought from farthest corners of Tamil Nadu with a flavour of authenticity. Dishes we tried: Vazhaipoo Vadai - The vadai tastes good enough, but the coconut chutney could have been better or maybe they could have served a different spicier chutney altogether. Chicken Karandi Omlette - A reasonably sized Omelette ball stuffed with chopped masala chicken, if your looking for a twist with the eggs; good one! Plain Dosa - Alert, comes only with Coconut Chutney on the side, but nothing else. The least they could do for this price range, is to add a Kozhambu for the side; tastes the usual. Madurai Spl Kari Dosa - Thick Dosa spread with chopped chicken masala paste on top with Chicken Kozhambu & Coconut Chutney for the side; tastes yum! Elaneer Payasam - What otherwise we call Thaengaai Paal, was a delight to drink. Coffee - Good, but not how I would like it! All of this totalled upto Rs.819 (for two). By way of things, I had to visit the restaurant almost thrice in a week, and never was I disappointed in terms of the quality of food or taste. Their Biryani, Kothu Parotta & Paruthi Paal Halwa are some of the must-tries. The restaurant has a decent parking space for both bikes & cars right-in-front, incase you were wondering. To sum it up, a very fine restaurant with the pricing...
Read moreWas looking for the best restaurant to visit with family in OMR, Chennai. Got to know about this restaurant from many and wanted to try. I booked the table through zomato, and they called to confirm whether I will be on time as it is a peak time. We went a bit early and found parking slots.
The atmosphere was so good, the interior was so nice. They have nick names for their staffs. One of the staffs who helped us is a person by nick named as Rolex! A very nice person, always smiling and suggesting what would be good for us and all his suggestions were so good. I noticed that all their staffs were smiley and serving very well.
We had most of the starters with fish items as I heard a lot about them from my friends. We tried Peanut Fish, Dejaj Mashwi, Saravedu fish, Chutney meen roast, Lollypop, Tandoori wings, Al Faham Chicken. We loved all those dishes, chutney meen roast was so yummy. Kids loved Lollypop, Al faham chicken.
We also ordered Paneer peanut, paneer chettinad (not able to recollect the name), Veg biriyani. Those were delicious as well. For the non veg main dishes, we tried egg fried rice, chicken and mutton biryani. Unlike starters, we weren't enjoying much on the main dishes. Probably because of having too many starters.
Last but not least, deserts were ultimate. Elaneer payasam, Vethalai kulukki, Falooda, and Milkshakes were so yummy too. By the time we finished with food, it was so crowded.
Overall, well satisfied with the decision to go to this restaurant with family. I would rate them to 4.8 out of 5 and suggest people to try this restaurant.
Thanks Rolex for...
Read moreSerious Food Safety Concern – Madras Machan Visit on 15th June 2025
We are a family of four who dined at Madras Machan on Sunday, 15th June 2025 at around 7 PM. Our order included: Shawarma roll Kizhi Parotta Bun Parotta Kari Dosa Fish Finger Biriyani Falooda While we hoped initially that we will enjoy our meal, a concerning incident happened. As we were about to leave we order an additional shawarma for takeaway, but there were no response for long time, later another waiter informed us that the shawarma had spoiled and the chef had decided to discard it. I was shocked, as we had already consumed shawarma just moments before. When I questioned why this wasn't checked earlier, the staff assured us casually that "nothing will happen" and told us to return if any issues arose. Unfortunately, my daughter began vomiting around 2:45 AM the same night, and it continued multiple times. By 9 AM, we had to rush her to the hospital. The doctor confirmed it as a case of food poisoning. It took 3–4 days of medication and rest for her to fully recover. Even my little son got stomach upset.
This experience was distressing, to say the least. For a place that charges a ₹2,156 bill (attached), we expected at the very least basic food safety and hygiene. This was a serious lapse in quality check, and I strongly advise others to avoid this restaurant until they improve their standards. I wanted to attach a vomit photo of the incident as proof, but chose not to, out of concern for viewers'...
