Is this arabic or turkish food ? Seriously ?
I have lived in Jordan, Lebanon and the UAE for many years. This was the most shocking experience for me. It is not even close to arabic or turkish food.
This is indianized version and poorly done arabic food
Labneh tastes like the sweetened dahi of dahi vada. Who puts sugar in labneh ? Does your chef know what labneh is and how it is made? Labneh is strained yogurt with a thick consistency. It is not sweeted indian raita. Your chef thinks he can add some zaaatar ( that too not authentic) to sweet raita and call it labneh ?
Batata Harra has been transformed into urulai roast (potato roast) with mexican seasonings. Does your chef know what authentic batata harra is and how it is made ? No sight of parsley, sumac and olive oil in the indianized potato curry that you made. And yes, add cheese to everything. Is it a joke ?
Hummus lacks flavor and moistness - very limited olive oil and with excessive tahina.
Falafel was shaped oval like a pattice ( of ragda pattice) and tastes like hard masala vada made the day before. No freshness or crispiness outside and no softness inside. God knows how the chef made falafel. Just google and learn how a falafel is made.
Even the french fries were not fresh , lacked lusture and were not crispy.
I am so glad i did not get other items like tabbouleh or baba ganoush. They would have made a mockery out of it. This is the appropriate name for the place - mezze mockery.
If your food is designed only for an indian palette, give a disclaimer in your menu that this is indo arabic and not authentic arabic. That way, the discerning customer who knows what arabic food is can manage expectations accordingly.
Price charged is atrociously high for this horrible food that was not even palatable. I read the reviews of people complaining of mandatory service charge.
It is alarming that your restuarant has the guts and audacity to sell this piece of junk as arabic food.
And this junk is branded as turkish/ arabic food and sold to gullible people who may not necessarily have that exposure.
Just go and educate yourself on what turkish/arabic food is - what is zaatar, hummus, falafel. I invite the management team to my home so that I can cook real arabic food for you. Also, the word lahma is meat ; so having a veggie version of a lahmacun ( turkish pizza) is a misnomer. Rather call it a manakeesh or manoushe as they call it in jordan or lebanon - that is etymologically correct if you want to do a veggie version of a lahmacun.
Management needs to do a complete rewamp of this place - training, education on what real arabic food is, revamp of menu and ingredients, review of policies etc. And your instagram posts are not...
Read moreAfter months of planning I finally had a chance to visit this place. Thanks to my sister for dragging me on a lazy Sunday evening đ
The location is pretty easy to find. We all know the greenways road and this is the 6th street. You have ample parking space on either side of the road.
It was around 7:30 when I entered and boomđĽ the place was full. They took a note of our names and numbers on the waiting list and the waiting time was about 15 to 20 mins. Thankfully we got a table outside to sit while we were waiting. I was surprised to see people wait for that long! Exactly after 15 mins we got a call on my phone for the table.
What we ordered? Hummus and pitaâI would call this heaven on a plate! You get two outa breads with hummus which is super creamy and addictive. Chicken wingsâThese were winglets marinated with spice rub and few fried. I felt this was kinda oily and the chicken had no real flavour. But youâll have to eat it with the harissa mayo dip. Harissa fishâmassive piece of fish comes with one pita bread, mayo dip and fries. I however felt it was little spicy for me. Paneer shawarmaâugh vegetarian shawarma đ. Well this was little bland since paneer by itself has no real taste and the spices were minimal. This comes with hummus, fries and pita. Kofta Kebabsâminced lamb mixed with spices and grilled on skewers. This is served with fries, pita bread and tzatziki dip. Tastes decent.
Desserts and drink Peach ice teaânot too sweet and had the exact bitterness from the lime and sweetness from the peach. Loved it! Baklavaâbeing a regular visitor to Dubai I have been missing this sweet in Chennai. The filo pastry is filled with sugar and generous amount of pistachios. However the pastry could have been more airy and light that it would melt in the mouth. But brilliant effort. Brownieâthis is officially the best brownie I have had! Just buy this đ
Drawback The only problem I had was the tables were small and extra chairs were added to seat people. As the dishes arrived, they didnât fit into the table and we had to keep our wallets and phones on the lap. So we had to call people for clearing the plates and glasses quickly.
I do understand it was in the interest of time and there were pled waiting for a long time. But since Iâm claustrophobic, it got to noisy and suffocating after a whole. I couldnât sit there to enjoy the meal and went out for some fresh air. I took a parcel to eat peacefully at home. They should try expanding the place. Maybe I should visit on a weekday...
Read moreMy second visit to this place... Weekend lunch, bit crowded, had to wait for a while about 10 mins. They don't do reservations, it's only walk in. Almost 550/- per head..
Ordered: Peri peri chicken shawarma Fried Calamari rings Chicken aryes(in the pic below) Lamb lamacun Harissa chicken Kunafa(the show stopper)
The peri peri chicken shawarma was their shawarma of the day! The spice level was amazing, sides with toume and chickpea hummus I guess, fries and pickled veggies and pita bread! Every large plate is very much sufficient for one person.
The calamari rings could have been slightly better, cause the last time I had it, the seasoning was on point, this time I felt it wasn't tossed properly in the seasoning, probably considering the crowd may be.
The lamb lamacun, I would suggest the mince to be a bit more larger, cause i couldn't feel the meat texture much, and was slightly oily than the last time I ordered this dish. Meat to gravy ratio was a bit off.
Harrisa chicken again a large plate with one pita bread, beetroot hummus, toume, fries and pickled veggies. Slightly on the spicier side, loved the good amount of heat! Great dish if you're a spice lover!
Chicken aryes, the photo attached below, is a chicken stuffed quesadilla, the pita bread was cooked until it was nice brown and crunchy, the chicken filling was subtle and juicy, paired with toume and harissa sauce, made that bite a good combination!
And finally the kunafa! Ohh always a big fan of their kunafa! Nice and warm ending to the palate, with that hint of sweetness and slight bit of sourness from the filling, guessing it's cream cheese! Anyways, the crunch from the vermicelli... Ohh that rythym everything plays inside your mouth after a great meal!â¤ď¸ Just the perfect Sunday afternoon!
Would I give a third visit? May be if they change their menu or add something new yeah, or probably just go back for the kunafa!
All together came upto 2200/- for 4! Fair enough I suppose!
Thanks team Mezze...
