Read moreCanvas by Sketch turned out to be a refreshingly well managed restaurant in Chennai - something not very common in this old city.
Yes, the food and coffee are as great as the reviews keep mentioning. Right from the presentation, freshness, taste and value for money to the kind of equipment the restaurant uses, everything gives a feel of having made the right choice by coming here. If you like a genuinely well brewed coffee, this is another place in the city to try some.
The menu card is well designed and features very smart selections of several cuisines, including a wonderful all day breakfast menu and exhaustive coffee list. The decor and furniture add to the user experience - comfortable seating with some of the best restaurant tables I have seen in a while - simple, but spacious. Truly indicates a well detailed approach to setting up a good restaurant.
Add to it some of the most professional service team I have seen till date in Chennai. From the word go, they impress you with their attitude, confidence and courteous approach. I have worked in the hospitality industry for 2 decades and across cities, and these are some of the best F&B personnel I have come across till date. Kudos to the restaurant management team on a great selection and training! We were looked after by Ms. Shilpa and she made our first visit to the restaurant well worth it.
All in all, a lovely place to visit for a quiet meal or to hang out...
Read moreTLDR; Worth coming here once or twice. Try the kha soi and their lamb burgers are decent. Do not get the papaya salad. There's no wow factor. Its a decent spot. Will need to come back to truly evaluate, but there's nothing on the menu that I'm excited about, that would be worth another visit
Tried the galouti sliders: Did not like the little wafer it was sitting on top off. The meat was tender. It could have used a bit more flavoring like cardamom etc.
Papaya salad: We asked them to remake this and the second time also came out like maggi. They put copious amounts of tamaring pulp and the entire thing is sweet. It is absolutely not authentic and there is not a hint of lime juice or chili powder. Absolutely do not get.
Lamb burger: It was cooked well and seasoned well. The fries could have been a bit better and salted properly. It tasted a little bitter like a green potato was used.
Kha soi: It was okay. Tried this dish in almost every restaurant that serves it in the city. Cafe de bankgok's one is better as it is thicker and this one is on the lighter side. If you're vegetarian, this is a good dish.
We came when there were massive family/birthday gatherings. The servers were slammed during lunch so service was running around. They handled the crowd pretty well from the tables I was...
