My friend had recommended to visit this place for Chinese Food. It is located in the city centre (Nungambakkam) where we have multiple options of Chinese Cuisine Restaurants.
They also serve North Indian food (luckily we didn't try)
The below review based on our personal experience on a Friday for dinner.
We ordered the below items and these are my personal feedback.
Cream of Chicken Soup : 230/- ⭐⭐ 2/5 The soup was not creamy but very bland, it had few chicken chunks. But there was no chicken flavor in the soup, maybe it was not boiled well or would be better if they used Chicken stock.
Crab Meat Soup : 240/- ⭐⭐ 2/5 This soup was very salty and when we tasted every spoon of soup, we had the sea food smell. Which was not comfortable for us to drink, i have tasted Crab Meat Soup in many other restaurants but never had this smell.
Peri Peri Wings : 390/- ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4/5 This was the only dish in the restaurant which had better portion. I think we got 8 pieces of chicken wings, which was spicy and good. The only item in menu which we felt was worth the money.
Crispy Chilly Lamb : 590/- ⭐⭐⭐ 3/5 We just had a quarter plate size portion of Crispy Chilly Lamb. Which was not worth the money we paid. The taste was really good and it was crispy but was not filling for even one person. We get same taste with better portion in other Chinese restaurants.
Phuket Paneer : 380/- ⭐⭐ 2/5 My friend was a vegetarian and he wanted to try this Phuket Paneer. The person who took the order had recommended to try this dish. We got Chilly Paneer with 6 cubes of Paneer. We felt the portion was very less for the money.
Chicken & Prawn Fried Rice : 440/- ⭐⭐ 2/5 We got this main course served in a soup bowl size container. Which we never expected, we have been to multiple restaurants which serves fried rice and atleast they serve portion which fills for one person. But this restaurant is only keen on making money and not filling customer stomach. The taste was good but the portion was worst.
Chicken Noodles : 370/- ⭐⭐ 2/5 If you order this dish you will be served an oily noodles, which will increase your cholesterol level for free. Since it was closing time of the restaurant, we couldn't complaint. But we left the noodles on our plates and paid the bill.
The best part was Service Charge of 7% was mandatory as per the Hotel Rules itseems. We didn't have a happy tummy and also we served the dishes ourself because we wanted to take pictures for this review. Still they weren't ready to waive off the service charges.
P.S : One of the Expensive Restaurant which serves average portion food. I would recommend to visit proper Chinese Cuisine Restaurants. This is just my...
Read moreThis is a must visit place for sizzlers. Can say it is one of their speciality as well. We visit this place just to have sizzlers only. I have been dining at this restaurant for the past 20 years or so. The taste and quality had changed a bit some 7-8 years ago but the quantity was good. Last I had visited this place 3 years ago and from then to now there is a vast difference. First of all the quantity has reduced a lot in the sizzler. The quantity of the plating on the sizzler plate has come down by 25% atleast while price has gone up. The good things were they used to have lots of grilled vegetables and mashed potato before but it is soo little now. The veggies and potatoes don't cost a lot, not sure why that was cut. French fries are completely missing in the sizzler. Happy that atleast the pineapple and tomato remain. Good thing is taste and quality is still good and satisfying. Ambience and staff are good though the service was slow. They have a default 7% service charge on the bill and clearly mentioned in the menu, so tips are additional only. They can definitely improve to become better...
Read moreOpal Inn for any Madras person evokes memories of dancing, great food and a manager called Mr. Woods ! It was known for its continental food and great service Some things have changed Please visit when you have time in your hands as service is very staggered Also throw that diet out the window when you do !
The food some of it is stuck in the 80's and needs to come to the present Like the prawns which were an alarming shade of orange ! Same with the very yellow rice of the veg shashlik
However there are some very nostalgic and tasty dishes
The spring rolls...I would go back just for them! The tandoori items are a saving grace as they are not deep fried and well done
One must not miss the fresh lime me soda... It's just magic!!!
So good
In dessert the tender coconut pudding didn't have too much coconut but was yum
The nuts of the hot fudge sundae need to be tripled in quantity as they were that good !
Overall Opal Inn is still a tick in my book ... Like I said the spring rolls...
