It can get confusing to find this restaurant but once you do, you realize that its one of the best places in Ooty with complete parking and freedom even during the holiday rush. I've been a regular at this restaurant for two years, mainly baked items which seemed to be their speciality. This year, I booked the Christmas lunch for my family and friends and what a surprise we got. Last year, my family wasn't here and just me and my wife had gone to Earl's Secret. Compared to The Turkey Lunch at Sugar Dribble, the Christmas lunch at Earl's Secret looked like a cancelled stamp. The presentation was sad, portion was even more sad and the entire experience with the service was very regretful. However, the effort taken by Sugar Dribble for their patrons is really solid. It's a local business that has managed to keep it's standards as well it's head high throughout covid and also with being surrounded by much older mammoths of restaurants. The Christmas lunch was very well prepared and the portion was also very respectful. The staff working there were very hospitable and made sure that each patron was properly taken care of. The restaurant isn't a very big one but nobody made any excuse. At the end of the meal, I paid the bill not just with a full stomach but also a very satisfied heart. The taste of the food and the freshness of the ingredients used, made me understand how seriously Sugar Dribble took it's patrons. How many places do we come across these days that reek of such charm that remind us of a bygone era when customer was king? I could have typed a simple two liner review but all these words typed here are coming from my heart, FIVE days after I had my Christmas Lunch at this restaurant. If you haven't been to this restaurant, please go and have something. My family and I, truly had a very memorable...
Read moreSugar Dribble! Firstly, great name. It conjures up all sorts of delicious cravings. I found this quaint cafe when I arrived in Ooty last year, but the prices made me wait until I felt I could splurge. Telltale signs of a true foodie; saving up to eat somewhere. Sadly, after I got there for lunch today, I found that the prices had increased. This made me compromise on what I really wanted to try, which was the beefsteak. Instead, I went for a beef burger so I could have dessert as well. I think Ooty has metropolitan prices because of all the tourists that visit. Anyway, I like the open seating area that the cafe offers. There are about five tables, and there were just two other customers when I got there. A family came by later. The menu is actually quite good. From burgers and sandwiches to pasta and steaks. Definitely leaning more toward continental cuisine. The cafe has a nice selection of pastries and I decided to try their blueberry cheesecake, though I prefer the New York cheesecake. The beefsteak seemed too expensive, so I ordered a Hot Beef Burger. They did not take very long to prepare it. It's been a while since I've had a good beef burger, so my expectations were high. It came with a side of normal potato chips. I use "normal" because they looked like store-bought chips. They were crunchy and tasty, but I would have preferred something freshly made. The burger on the other hand was excellent. Tasty, juicy, and a surprisingly crunchy beef patty that complimented the sauces and cheese. I would definitely go back for that. The blueberry cheesecake was a bit disappointing. It was pretty heavy and quite sweet. I guess my hunt for good cheesecake will continue. The bill came to Rs. 578,...
Read moreThe place looks artsy and chic and the menu offers a great variety for vegetarians too. It's just that the area could use a bit of cleaning - the adjoining "common" area was trashy, and that matters for outdoor cafes. There were sparrows picking food bits from under the tables. Also, I found the cane furniture to be a bit chunky for the narrow seating space. I would suggest switching to sleek metallic chairs and tables.
As for the food, it was priced on the higher side in our opinion. They intend to give their best, no doubt about that. All our dishes came well-plated and appetising to look at. The service could be a bit slow though, it appeared that they were under-staffed.
We ordered an alfredo sauce (white sauce) pasta that is supposed to be mild by default. But mine arrived with so much spice in it, I had to request for a new one. What I got after that seemed to be an adjusted version of the same dish - old sauce scooped out, new sauce added in to balance the flavour. I didn't appreciate that. I would have liked a fresh dish, with mild sauce and bottles of chilli flakes and oregano on the side to add as per my preference - like it is done everywhere else!
We had a chocolate brownie which was delicious but overpriced for the quantity served, and a chickpea burger which was fine. We also had some variety of chocolate milkshake which was okay, nothing special.
I think the place is fancy and great to hang out at, but I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here.
NOTE: The way to this cafe is not obvious. The cafe is located INSIDE some kind of building compound/complex. Refer to the pics to find...
