We went to The Entrance Cafe on a Tuesday afternoon. We sat inside because it was hot outside and were seated at the table which you can see straight when you enter the inner seating area on the ground floor, closer to the kitchen counter. We had to ask many times for someone to take our order. There was too much chatter among the staff (which is fine if the voices are mellow and the volume low). At first, we thought it is probably because of the place we were seated, which is closer to the kitchen counter. So, we were shifted upstairs in a more secluded part of the building. It was nice until a particular staff brought two more guests to the section. The guests seem regular because the staff was chatting with the guest. What was unpleasant was that the staff was loud, louder than the other guest. It reached a point where this particular staff loudly (mind you this is a restaurant) called for his colleague, like we do at home, calling someone from one room to another. At this point, one of my co-guests got seriously annoyed and called them out for being excessively loud. This particular staff went on arguing that he wasn’t shouting or speaking loudly. Anyway, a bit later, we asked for the bill and it never came. So, I, myself went downstairs to ask for the bill. There were staff who were calling out for their colleagues from upstairs for their colleagues downstairs. It was like madness. I had to just confront them. I told this particular staff that not only they were loud and excessively chattering loudly among themselves, they were screaming from top floor to the ground floor calling. Moreover, this particular staff, was conversing in Hindi with the other guest after my fellow guest showed his displeasure. I told him that I overheard what he told about us. He still kept on arguing. I think his name was Bhavesh. He was just simply put rude and refusing to make our stay pleasant.
During our stay, another set of guests showed their displeasure and left after arguing.
Bhavesh’s (I apologise if I am getting his name wrong) reason for the loud atmosphere was that the sound system wasn’t working. I don’t understand how sound system and employees speaking loudly among themselves, screaming from one floor to another is co-related to sound system. His idea was that if the sound system was on, then we wouldn’t have been able to hear their conversations which is funny because it would be mean more noise, you would try to converse over the volume, making it more noisy.
At the same time, there was other staff who were pleasant and really cooperative and soft spoken, with whom you can have a conversation, without feeling you are being treated with rudeness. Food was good, place is different from most cafes, giving you a homely atmosphere. But, if staff is rude and unpleasant, it is a shame. The arrogance is simply disappointing. I, for sure, will never visit the place or ask any of my acquaintances to visit, even if the...
Read moreA Hidden Gem inside the city filled with Elegance !!!
Tucked away in the heart of Kilpauk, The Entrance Cafe is an elegant escape from the city's hustle. With its sophisticated interiors, warm lighting, and plush seating, the ambiance strikes the perfect balance between modern charm and cozy comfort. Whether you're catching up with a friend, on a date, or just looking for a quiet space to enjoy a good meal, this cafe delivers on all fronts.
Appetizers – A Flavourful Start
We began our meal with Wonton Soup, which had a noticeably strong ginger kick. While it might not be to everyone's taste, it was a pleasant surprise for my dining companion, a professional Carnatic singer, who found the warmth of ginger quite soothing.
Next up were the Filled Mushrooms and let me tell you, these were an absolute delight! Perfectly cooked, loaded with flavor, and truly finger-licking delicious, they were easily one of the best dishes of the evening.
Main Course – Hits and Misses
For the main course, we opted for the White Sauce Penne Pasta. While it was creamy and well-cooked, it didn't exactly stand out. A safe, comforting choice, but nothing extraordinary. If you’re craving a classic pasta dish, this one does the job, but I’d suggest exploring other options on the menu for a more exciting flavor experience.
Drinks – The True Star of the Show
Now, onto the real winners of the night – the Berry Blast Smoothie and the Iced Milo. The Berry Blast Smoothie was refreshing, fruity, and had just the right balance of sweetness. But the Iced Milo? That was on another level. Topped with a generous sprinkle of Milo powder, it brought back childhood nostalgia in the best way possible. Rich, chocolatey, and indulgent, this drink alone is reason enough to visit the cafe!
Dessert – The Perfect Ending
We wrapped up our meal with a classic Tiramisu, and it did not disappoint. Light, creamy, and beautifully balanced, this dessert was a satisfying finale to our meal. Not too sweet, not too bitter just the way a good tiramisu should be.
Pricing & Value
With Zomato Gold, our bill for two came under ₹1800, which felt reasonable given the ambiance and quality of food.
Final Thoughts
If you're looking for a charming, peaceful cafe with good food, The Entrance Cafe is worth a visit.
But here’s a question to ponder is it a flaw or actually a good thing that the waiters don’t disturb you, but when you need to order, it's a bit of a struggle? Haha!
Was so immersed that I forgot to click pictures and enjoyed the moments there :) so pardon me for not being able to share the...
Read moreAmazing aesthetic cafe. We went in for picking up some of their desserts. Service is good. Courteous and helpful staff members. We had a cold coffee and hot chocolate. Cold coffee was good, hot chocolate was quite decadent, but too sweet for our liking. Here are the food items we picked up and how we liked it: Butter croissant : true to its name, buttery goodness. Definitely recommended.
Nutella cube croissant : again delicious, quite heavy. But generously filled with nutella inside. My son totally loved it.
Cafe special choco chip cookie : nice and big in portion. Good amount of chocolate in it. Recommeded.
Biscoff cookie: i personally am not a fan of biscoff but my son is a die hard fan of biscoff. Unfortunately he does not recommend the biscoff cookie.
Nutella Babka : was also good but could use more nutella in it. Would recommend though.
Caramel babka : was rather dry. Okayish. Not really a fan.
Korean cream cheese bun : this is something that some people would love and some would not because it has contrasting flavours. It was garlicky, cheesy and sweet. I think i am not a fan of this. Just a plain garlic bun would be great for me.
Hazelnut torte : was yummy but again i could have only 2-3 bites of it. It was too sweet for me to finish the whole torte.
Chocolate truffle pastry : i think it was not fresh. The chocolate sponge was very dry and the truffle had become quite hard. Not a fan and i would not recommend.
I have generally seen full display of different kinds of desserts on google but when we went they did not have a big selection that day.
Prices are rather high. Majority of the items we picked were Rs. 300+. So quite pricey that way.
Did not try their other dishes but will definitely update my review once we have visited for lunch or dinner.
But i would definitely...
